Hi all,

I need some advice. Round trip tickets are less expensive than one way tickets. I plan on purchasing two round trip tickets to pick Sasha up from Kyiv. Has anyone had any problems with this? As in only using the second half of the round trip ticket? Any experiences with your seat being given away or your ticket being voided. Please let me know, I would like to purchase tickets ASAP. Thanks very much!

I don't have specific advice with regards to only using the second half of the ticket, but I'd say it's best to check with the airline and your travel agent to see what they have to say.

With regards to round trip tickets being cheaper, do shop around because there are some occasional good deals on one-ways.

Best of luck to you!

As others have said, you cannot use the return leg without using the outbound leg.

With comparable fare classes, one way flights are usually cheaper. But often times, its easier to find a round trip flight thats been discounted rather than a one way flight.

You must use the first half of the round trip ticket. If you don't show up for first flight, your ticket will be cancelled.

Yuriy,

I honestly don't know if you can use it or not but other members seem being reasonable. And I know it's hard to buy from travelocity or orbitz a one-way from abroad to the US. For my last trip I used Cinderella Travel. They're located in NYC and mostly dealing with Eastern European coutries. Try calling them yet today, I hope that there they'll be albe to offer you a good deal for both round trip for you and one-way for Sasha.

Best:)

Oh, and if you call, don't get Aerosvit-Ukrainian Airlines unless it's a really, really good deal, and there is nothing to choose from (it's fine but not very comfortable.) Try getting Delta or Polish Lot - have lots of flights and good pricing:)

Don't call the airline..they will most surely tell you NO. Sure you can do it. The post regarding flying the first leg did not get what you actually tryng to do. You will fly the first leg on both tickets. One to here and one to there. If you use a travel agent make sure you buy them on two separate calls otherwise they will know what you are doing and not allow it. If you buy online then no worries. The airlines really frown on this but as long as your not making a habit out of it you will be fine.

Makes complete sense to me, if you use the first leg of both round trip tickets, there shouldn't be any repercussions for not using the 2nd half. I'd definitely go for it if it were cheaper

If you are worried, you can call the airline and ask if there are any repercussions or extra fees if you cannot make the 2nd leg of the flight (make up a reason why not ;) )

The plan appears to be the USC buying a round trip ticket for herself and the second ticket is for her fiance. She would use both legs and the fiance would use only the second leg of his ticket. This will not work. The person only using half the round trip, must use the first leg of their ticket.

I took it as both tickets were for herself  I'm so confused now lol

Non-USC Ticket: Ukraine -> USA -> Ukraine (Fiancee only flies first leg of round-trip)

Doesn't work:

LOL, wow you guys thanks! Okay, the round trip tix were USA-> UA -> USA for both her and I. It wouldn't work unfortunately :( So I've found another deal, a little more pricey, but as long as she's here! Thanks everyone for the help! Warmest wishes to all!

My only advice would be - if you can, try to avoid flying on weekends. Many people don't know that to fly Mon-Thu can be up to $100 cheaper. I've been hecking flights NYC-Kiev for late February, and it starts aroud $696 to fly on Friday where it's only around $638 if to fly Tuesday. I don't know why but Tuesdays are always the cheapest days to fly:) Either way, I'm sure you'll be able to keep price under one thousand, even flying from West Cost.

Have a good one!
