Hi, everyone! For 2 days now I have been having a problem with my computer. I'm being re-routed to other internet sites when I used my search engine results. When I go to yahoo (or google) and type in a search term and then press enter I get a list of results. When I click the site I want to go to it takes me to some other site, for example- clickdeals.com or some page thats just google ads. When I click the result, the address bar changes from "http://search.yahoo.com/........" to "http://results.yahoo.com/" . While "http://results.yahoo.com/" is showing briefly the entire page is white and has a small continue button. I don't press it, but it automatically forwards me to some random site.

Any ideas how I can fix this? Yesterday, I upgraded my anti-virus hoping it would solve the problem. No such luck.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Try going to http://www.tucows.com/ and search for a program called adaware, it sounds to me like you have some sort of issue going, even if your anti-virus program is not catching it.

I would also suggest adding winpatrol to your security arsenal.

Good luck!

I had that problem a while back, my anti-spyware didnt pick up on it and I kept getting these annoying pop-ups.

I downloaded spybot, this scanned my computer and cured the problem.

http://www.spybot-sd-info.com/

Now if I have any problems, not often, I just run a scan with spybot and it usually picks it up. I haven't had a spyware problem for a long time now.

Maybe try going to IE, click on TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS, then at the top click on PROGRAMS, then RE SET WEB SETTINGS . ??

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Those are typical signs of spyware (adaware). You might want to try downloading a spyware removal tool. I like "webroot spy sweeper", but you can choose another one if you'd like. You can find several options inDownload.com

What antivirus are you using? I have Mcafee and it is very effective against both viruses and spyware.

You might also want to run windows updates since they have added several spyware protection updates.

If you have important info in your pc, or are not comfortable with troubleshooting your pc, I'd suggest doing a backup and taking it to a professional. Some spyware requiere going into the registry to remove, and that's when it turns delicate

Sounds like you have some spyware working in the background rather than a virus. You need software that detects and eliinates it. Some stand-alone anti-virus applications don't.

control panel>Administrative Tools>services : scroll for messenger and double click, drop down menu to disable it (even if it already says disable) apply and close. this stops the annoying grey boxed popups. may need a reboot.

adaware and winwasher should resolve the explorer issue, if not, download firefox and try that as your default browser.

otherwise...my favorite...if all else fails...FORMAT!

thank god for technology!

That is so frustrating! I recently bought a new computer because my other one caught a virus!

Format the old hard drive and reinstall windows. Do you buy a new car instead of fixing it?

I cant imagine buying a new computer every time I got a virus !!!!

You just need a good anti-spyware programme, google spyware and it will give you a dozen good programmes that will solve your problem. I use spybot but there are many more out there.

I have a friend that was in the computer repair biz before. He has said, sometimes, buying a whole new machine can be cheaper than repairing one if it has been seriously contaminated. Even reformating a drive will not help. Of course, it highly depends on the value of the system!

You 'friend' must sell computers.

Get Spybot. It defends against spyware and viruses. Not free but cheaper than a new computer.

If the car is very old, on it's last legs and needs replacing, yes I do.

I'd suggest a program called hijackthis. You need to have pretty good knowledge of Windows to use it, but I can walk you through it if you need, just PM me. It will get rid of stuff running on startup, BHO's, malicious services, and lots of other bad stuff. Not much it can't get rid of.
