My husband filled out the wrong form and submitted money (almost $400) to renew his green card.

He went down to his appointment, and they informed him that he filled out the wrong request, and told him the correct form he needed.

Now they refuse to refund our money for the wrong form.

How unfair!

Oh man...that is so awful,

Will they apply the money to the correct form? How long ago did they cash it? If it wasnt that long ago you may want to ask the bank to do a charge back, if that doesnt work I would speak with the congressman in your area.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but I don't see how that is a 'rip off'. The forms all come with instructions detailing the situations in which the form should be used. You sent the incorrect form and the money; they have no way of knowing that you've sent them the incorrect form until they begin to process the information, by which point your check has long since been cashed. That's their process, and its not a secret.

Educating yourself on the process is key when dealing with the USCIS - otherwise you can quite easily squander money or complicate the process further.

Agreed. If you've been a VJ member for 3 years, it's not hard to to go the Removal of Conditions forum and find out it's I-751. It sucks it happened, but people need to be more careful.

f43f33f8.gif Everyone makes mistakes...

And it sucks it happened to them, and I agree I would try to get my money back by contacting my congressman, et cetera, but USCIS isn't going to just hand it back because the OP did make a mistake. A pretty serious one where finances are concerned? Yep.

I know I'm just saying - this stuff is important, be careful and make sure you send in the right form and it won't happen.

What form did the OP file by mistake? Did they re-file for AOS? What appointment are they talking about? An interview? InfoPass? More details might be helpful.

Sure would be.

(Moved here because it definitely didn't belong in the AOS forum, and the "renew" verbiage along with when the OP joined makes it look like a Removal of Conditions issue.)

Who is 'they'? We filled out the wrong form and all the USCIS did was send back the entire package. It sounds like you were ripped off
