Was my fiancé telephone scammed?

My fiancée in the D. R. was called by an Ontario Canada number. The person said they were from immigration and they asked my fiancée about his name. 

 

Is that normal protocol or was my foreign fiancée scammed?

Think about it, why would they be calling from Canada? What did they say?

It's pretty easy for someone to spoof numbers.

 

He needs to look at who all knows he's going to be leaving and think if this can be one of them. You would be surprised how many friends or family can get ugly and try to mess up someone else happiness.

Not sure at what point you guys are at in the process but if you guys are doing K-1, at most the foreign beneficiary will only be contacted by the local embassy. If there was some kind of contacts from the US government, that would probably be the USCIS contacting the US petitioner, not really the foreign beneficiary. The foreign beneficiary will only be in direct contact with USCIS at AOS, EAD, AP, ROC and N-400 stages. Hope everything is OK.

Any time I’ve ever been contacted telephonically by US immigration authorities while outside the US (3 times in my case) the call has always come from a local embassy or consulate. Generally they don’t need to call to ask about basic information they will already have in the application...
