My fiance does not have a middle name, only first and last. So, when filling out the I-29F where it asks for middle name, do you just leave it blank or write 'None"? What has your experience with this been? You all give fantastic replies...thank you in advance!

Does he/she have a middle name on his/her birth certificate? If not then put None.

It may not cause an RFE to leave a 'name space' blank, but the government usually uses the word 'none' in such cases.

My father has no middle name. When he enlisted during the Korean conflict, the recruiter used the word 'none' on his forms. The initial "N" followed my father throughout his naval career - his name was 'John N. Doe' even on his dog tags.

This is the one case where I don't recommend writing none, because some either stupid or assinine government worker might gum up the works by using "none" as the middle name. If you must write something, write (no middle name) or if you write too big for that, use (none) including the parenthesis. I left it blank for both my wife and daughter without any consequence. This was particularly important for China because although my wife's name has three Chinese characters, it is only two names. The correct English tranliteration, combines the second two characters as the one, two-syllable "given" name.

The adjudicators and clerks can compare the forms to the identification and other documents supplied to see there is no middle name.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

FlyRK,

A squiggly line, or a series of dashes if you're filling the form electronically, throught the middle name space makes it clear that the item has not been overlooked and that there is no middle name.
