I don't think there are any documents could "prove" that the person will go back, but a job, real estate property, money in the bank, enrollment in school for example could give the Consul the sense that this person will come back to all of it as opposed to someone that try to get a Tourist Visa with no money, no job, no possessions or any other things that could possibly make this person come back.

Just a thought 😉

Real Estate and Money in the Bank, well I have those and move here a long time ago.

But occupation etc are addressed on the application.

As I said before, there are no documents or conditions that would guarantee that the Tourist Visa applicant won't use the visa to immigrate and stay here illegally, but the chances of it happening are much bigger if the person have absolutely nothing to lose in their home country. But you're right, it all depends on the situation, I have a friend that is a business owner, with a great financial situation and has her Tourist Visa denied, in the other end you have someone like me, that only had a good job and got approved very easily....but nothing take from my mind the thought that the letter that my fiancé sent me stating that he would be responsible for me and that he would make sure that I would not over stay my visa or be a burden for the American government or its citizens had a weight in her decision.

Each case is different and I hope she can get her visa as easy as I did!

I think if they have doubts on the validity of your application then your chance has gone.

Thanks for your candid opinion.

the part you mentioned about applying for a tourist visa with no money no job is essentially me.

but then again I'm in uni here in UK and I've got no plans to ever move to the Us and I haven't even got any family there.

I still get monetary support from my parents.

So will this affect my chances of getting the visa?

He's a British citizen and he's only going to the US for work and asked if I could come? It's just for a week and I thought a quick get away? Why not?

I was hoping you would say he is a British citizen :)

At the very least, the US Consulate won't automatically assume you are wanting to travel to the States just to marry him.

Well if you are going to apply for your tourist visa you'd better get on the ball, as it can sometimes take a few months to get approved, depending.

Haha thanks for the assurance! I feel a bit relieved and positive reading all the advices that I've got from you guys today!

Yeah I'm working on it, will get the application sorted between today and tomorrow.

i am just worried that the consulate would refuse based on funds not being directly from me? I can't present my statement of account because it's below the required amount!

They  normally want to know the finances to ensure that you will not become a public charge while in the US.

Considering you are travelling with another person, and can prove you have hotel reservations already paid for by them, and can prove that you intend to return only after a week, and can prove that your parents already support you financially, the chances of you being in need of  financial support from the US government during your stay is none.

Ah thanks! I appreciate the comments!

now I know what to put together in terms of finance. My dad is not willing to show his statement of account cause he's short of money at the moment but I can just show the hotel reservations and proof of my boyfriend's finance right?

I can only chip in that I'm being supported by my parents and I live here in the Uk with my uncle.

His payment for your tuition, room and board, books, etc. comes out of his bank account?  Then yes, you should take something showing that he pays for your schooling/financially supports you in the UK...him being short of money right now this month is not what they care about.  They want to see the expenditures for you coming out of his pocket.

I'm sure you have an active bank account in the UK, right?  Doesn't matter what the balance in it is at the moment---they want to see the account exists and has been active as a tie to the UK, that's the main thing.

I'm happy for you, I maintain a bank account in the UK too :) .

There's a difference between yourself as a K-1 visa holder, and the OP who is applying for a tourist visa.

Your present account in the UK isn't going to make a difference to the USA right now because you have an immigration visa application pending, and the US doesn't care about you establishing residency elsewhere.

Her present account in the UK will make a difference to the USA right now when applying for just a tourist visa, since the US cares about her showing she has established residency elsewhere.

I really think that your enrollment in college and the fact that you are traveling with your boyfriend is enough evidence, I only listed the other things to exemplify the kind of things that they expect you to have, I mean sound crazy that someone will leave college half way to be here illegally and I believe that the consul will feel the same way, I just think that you have to bring anything that you have, the idea about the transcripts that @Coco8 gave us also very good.

Good luck!!!
