Can I change my E-2 employee visa if offered a job by an American company?

I am currently on a E-2 visa and have been offered a position with an American company, can I convert or change it?

I am from the UK and I was employed by my former employer in July 2014 and as of yesterday I no longer work with them. As of 01/29/2015 They have given me 40 days before they will end my visa as a grace period. They are a British company and have the ability to bring British employees over.

I have now been offered a position with an American company and we do not know what would be the best and quickest process of converting or applying for a new visa. Ideally I would like to change it if that is even a possibility and without me going back to the UK.

You say we but it is really up to the employer, or more likely the lawyers retained by the employer.

There is a whole alphabet of visa's out there and which would be appropriate based on zero information if any is impossible to guess.
