Rescheduling IR1 DCF Interview date at London Embassy

Hi

Long time reader first time poster!

The info on here has been so useful that I have not had to post as yet! Unfortunately, from what I can find via searching at least, there is no recent posting in regards to rescheduling your interview date.

I am likely to be unavailable for 5 days around which it is likely that my Interview date may fall (forms subbed 10th Jan, Medical carried out 18th Jan, will be away 27th March - 2nd April). Does anyone have any recent experience or knowledge on how flexible the embassy is on rescheduling interviewed dates, if mine did happen to fall during that period?

From what I've managed to read, some people seem to think its a relatively easy process, via calling the premium rate line and then emailing the code, with some even getting their dates moved forward, whilst others seem to suggest it will be the end of the world!

If worst came to the worst and the date did happen to fall over that period, does anyone know what are my chances of rescheduling to a time, either before or shortly after those dates? If not, what would be the worst case scenario in regards to a new date?

Cheers!

There is no premium rate line anymore or email code. There is an online contact form (which emails them) where you can tick the reason as wanting to reschedule your interview. http://london.usembassy.gov/niv/visa_contact_form.html

Easy.

Thanks Nick! very helpful, didn't realise that despite reading about 20 posts! The benefit fo having some up to date info?

In regards to the process now, are they pretty flexible in accommodating changes and if so does anyone know how long we may have to wait if I do have to reschedule? Is it normal to be able to move it forward/ back my a few days as opposed to have to wait another 60 days or so?

I think it is possible to have your interview before your trip. This isn't such a busy time at the embassy. Keep in mind, you won't have your passport back same day as interview if your unavailability includes international travel.

Try this: Use the contact form on Monday. Choose the reason -info not available on website. Ask if your interview could be scheduled prior to Mar 27 because you will be unable to attend Mar27 to Apr2. Confirm dates you sent DS-160 and date of medical and emphasize you are ready at any time with all your required documents in hand.

I suggest waiting until next week so your medical results arrive and are in place and they could maybe just act on your request immediately. If you ask too soon before they can see all your ducks are in a row, then you might get a vague answer.

Always give dates. Even if you decide to wait and see what random date you get and it needs changing. Tell them you are available April 3 onward.

Hi

We're actually due to be in the US looking for Rental properties and speaking to potential employers! So I will need my passport.

Thanks again for the adivce, I think I will contact them next week and suggest anything other than weeks commencing 22nd or 29th March would be ideal.

Cheers

Too vague and confusing.

Tell them exactly when you want to come. "May I please have an interview date prior to Mar 12?" It is not an unreasonable request. Asking for prior to Feb1 would be unreasonable. They have accommodated such specific requests before.

  • 2 weeks later...

Let us know how you get on rescheduling! I think I'm going to have to reschedule mine too, as I'll still be in Canada (on a working holiday visa) probably when I get my interview date. Our application got sent to California on the 27th Jan and I'm here til May  We put the embassy in London instead as we thought there was no way we'd get an interview date before then!

As an update, I contacted the embassy via the form linked by Nick, requesting a date pre x

They got back to me within 24 hours to tell me that my interview date was already scheduled and it was well in advance of that date!

So no real news on a reschedule I'm afraid, it seems as though lead times are short currently though if that is of any use!

Ah ok, well that's good it's a short wait! So it'll be before your US trip then?

Yes, I guess I will be able to do the immigration process on that trip now

Hmm, in fact, do I have to? Or can I still just enter under Visa waiver? We'll be getting into BOS quite late, so it may be best to just head on through

As far as I know once the visa is in your passport you have to use it the next time you enter. Im sure the embassy will be able to answer this query for sure however :)

That is a question you could ask CBP. It doesn't fall under embassy jurisdiction. Different agencies. You could have asked the embassy to defer putting the visa in your passport. If you had a better reason than it's going to be late at night and inconvenient they might make an exception and defer activating your visa and permanent residency. Saying it is just a short house hunting trip for a few days might get a better response. But why not get on with it?

Ask CBP https://help.cbp.gov/app/ask
