Jury Duty summoning while pending status?

Hi!

I just received a jury duty summon by mail, even though im not a citizen yet, and don't even have my Green Card either. I sent out all my paperwork a few weeks ago. It says n the back I can be excused if Im not a citizen, but part of me is really curious to go through with it, since its something Ive always seen in movies, and not really a thing in my home country. Plus, Im currently not working while waiting for my work permit and bored out of my mind. Was wondering if anybody has any experience regarding this?

Timeline:

12/29/14- Arrived in USA with J1 Visa

11/4/15- First Date

7/4/16- Got Engaged

1/6/17 - Married at City Hall in San Francisco, CA

2/3/17- Sent out AOS Package

2/6/17- Notified by USPS Package was delivered in Chicago

2/15/17- Received E-Notification/ Confirmation Acceptance by E-Mail from USCIS

2/16/17- Checks were cashed

2/22/17- Received 4 NOA letters (for Forms I-130, I-485, I-765 and I-131)

3/11/17- Received Biometrics appointment by mail

3/15/17- Went to USCIS office to get my biometrics taken

According to this, you cannot serve on a jury unless you are a USC:

If that's the case, then even trying to get on a jury could be viewed as a claim of US citizenship. That's a quick way to make you ineligible for any immigration benefits, even when you eventually want to file for citizenship later. I realize it's their mistake for sending the notice if you are not qualified, but that really doesn't matter to USCIS.

Don't do it. You are not a citizen. When the time comes for your naturalization, it could give you very big headache. Continue to watch 12 Angry Men on tv for now.

Great! Thanks so much for the information. I will call and let them know I don't qualify. Guess I'll have to wait until I'm a citizen to satisfy my curiosity!

Hahahaha, seriously, these Netflix binges are starting to get boring. Thanks for the info! I'll call tomorrow and tell them I don't qualify.

I understand how Netflix binging can get boring after a while. But the legal and immigration-related "excitement" that would follow when a non-green card holder pretends to be a citizen in order to partake in jury duty and then gets caught, is something I'd pay to watch! :P
