When I (finally!) travel to the US on my K1, I have been told that my UK purchased "multi trip travel insurance" is invalid (a "trip" must start and finish in the UK).

When I am married I can easily be added to my new husband's health insurance, but for the time when I leave the UK until we are married, I will have no health cover.

I was wondering what other people have done to make sure they are covered?

Have your husband buy a traveler's insurance for you (no SSN needed for this). There are several insurance companies offering it, so he just needs to do a search online. I paid about $50 per month (bought it for 3 months - we were married within that and was able to add her to my health insurance). Good Luck

I came with my medical insurance from back home, but because I pay monthly for this I get worldwide coverage, but I assume most people get a third party med insurance.

He says it is restricted to "immediate family", I think he should ask more questions about what that means wink.gif
Thanks

I guess you could do that, but I remember reading about someone who did that and regretted it. Seems there was an accident involving a broken leg, and the petitioner was then responsible for some big medical bills.

You just never know. My husband ended up in the hospital for just one day last year for pneumonia, and the bill was over $10,000. SO happy he has insurance - we only had the $400 deductible!

Yeah, I am not thinking it's a risk I would take. Also I would caution people against relying on Travel Insurance from either country as I think they will require evidence of your "trip", and if you are entering on a K1 you're not actually on a return trip so I think you would not be covered (this is what my insurers told me).

We used this one once my fiancee left Brazil and before we married:

www.imglobal.com

I think it is part of the Patriot America that Martin&Nat recommended.

It was really affordable and fortunately for us, we never had to use it.

Best of luck to you!
