Hello guys,

my fiancé broke up with me because he doesn't want to do long distance.(absolutely makes no sense to me, and I'm confused and heartbroken) I tried for like 2 months to convince him stay but it doesn't work. So I want to cancel my visa. I received Packet3 from the embassy 8 days ago. It states that if I don't mail anything back to them. the application will just expire after 1 year. But I don't want to wait for 1 year. I want to cancel my visa properly and apply for a student visa this year.

My question is:

1, how to cancel my visa properly?

2, how long does it take to eventually cancel it?

3, will it affect me on applying for a student visa this year?

Thanks for your help everyone.

1. Send the embassy a letter stating you are cancelling because you and your petitioner broke up. Follow up with a phone call about a month later to make sure it is all done.

2. should be done within a month, usually quicker.

2. Yes. There will be suspicions that you are cancelling the K1 because a student visa is easier to get, that you will reconcile with the fiance once you are in the USA. For the F1, you have to prove you do NOT want to immigrate, that you have strong ties to home and will return after your studies. You have proven the opposite by trying for the K1, so it will be more difficult to get a student visa, especially so shortly after the failed K1.

Has anyone been in similar position as me? I'm totally heartbroken. as I never even imagined to cancel my visa application. I have been waiting everyday to see my fiancé again. But he told me he is no ready anymore.

Please anyone share your experience or opinion? And were you able to receive another visa after cancellation of K1 ?

We filed for i-129f and i received the package as you did.. We broke up and i just waited until the petition expired..

I went back to the us on visa waiver 1 1/2 year later.. They did not ask me one question about it..

We got back together and at the greencard interview he asked what happened...

Dont think that this will help much. Guess vwp and student visa not really to compare..

Thank you so much for sharing Simonbln. Your story did help me. I'm really suprised by your patience though. 1 year and half seems long for me. Glad to hear you guys got back together!

Too bad that they don't have the visa waiver program for China. Student visa is totally different. I can only pray on that I will receive it someday.

Oh.. and another important thing is: whether it's better to wait one year for it to expire or better to write a letter to the embassy and cancel it?

which one do less harm for me in the future visa application progress?
