Flying back home for a week on EAD with AP

Hi,

I just want to make sure I am not missing anything. I found out my grandmother has a couple of months to live so I wanted to go home for a week to say hello and bye for the last time.

I have my EAD card with AP, waiting on my Greencard still.

Do I need anything at the airport other than the EAD card and my passport, does anyone see any issues arising?

It doesn't expire until August of this year.

Just wanted to know the same as you.

Do we need to bring the letter of approval notice (I131) for advance parole around with us?

Or is traveling with just the ap/ead combo card all that is required?

Travel with the card is all that is needed. Major airlines should know about the AP card. Allow a bit extra time at your POE to clear secondary inspection when returning.

The few issues I have seen are UK airline counter employes who think you need either ESTA or a visa or a greencard. A few might not know what an AP card is, but a check with their supervisor clears it up. So don't panic, just ask for a supervisor if anybody acts dumb about your credentials.

Just to clarify though, I just need my card and my passport? I dont need to gather evidence or any of that stuff?

Have you changed your name after marriage? If so they'll likely ask you for a copy of your marriage certificate too. If you have spare copies at home it probably can't hurt to bring one with you.

Card and passport. You are the guy so guessing you didn't change your name. Your passport and AP card names match.

You'll be all set. When we traveled and my husband was using his AP/EAD card, we did get pulled into secondary inspection at customs. We were flying into O'Hare. It was a formality (the agent commented on how it seemed so silly). So...that may or may not be the case at your airport, but don't be alarmed if it happens. They'll just run your name through the database and send you on your way.

I think at the time (about a year ago) it was the policy, at least at o'hare. I don't think it was the case at all airports, and even o'hare has made some big changes to the immigration/customs process, so it may or may not still be happening. But it was easy and harmless. Added no more than half an hour to our return, and they let us stay together.

my wife coming back from 2nd trip march 6, will update if she has secondary inspection then....she is carrying her marriage certificate along with her combo card.

I will be flying back to Chicago with EAD/AP on March 1.

AP approval notice says to carry it with you when you travel so I would say must have is the passport,EAD/AP card and the AP approval notice.

Also I have i-485 NOA1 and marriage certificate just in case.

I will let you know guys how it went.

approval notice is not necessary. once again, passport, combo card, we also brought marriage certificate.

Just came back to Chicago with EAD/AP. It was pretty smooth. I had to wait for 40 min in the special room and then they gave me my passport and EAD/AP back and I was good to go.
