Besides hanging out on VJ, to fill your days?? I'm starting to go bonkers. I wanted to join the PTO at my step daughters school and they won't let me cause they can't get a police clearance on me...I can't find any local boards or forums to join a class or club, and don't know a damn person. I know all of you can relate.

How did you find local events to keep you occupied?? I need a social life again..LOL...and i know best ways are through work (which I can't yet) and local get togethers which I can't find online anywhere..grrr...

Can you supply a police cert from your home country to the PTO?

As to finding local clubs etc to join, google them.. or watch local news/ get a local newspaper, they usually have an "events" section... go along to the event and if you like it, find an organiser and volunteer for future events.

Do you like animals? Shelters always need more people to help rush cats and walk dogs.

Hi and thanks for the ideas...you know God forbid I think of using the "old fashioned" route of grabbing a paper!! I had actually looked into volunteering at the shelter when we got our cat, the problem was they are closed when I would have a drive/vehicle, so that didn't work out well...lol

Yea I'll be grabbing a paper today to check for stuff. Also thought about stopping at the store and gym and looking at their ad board for ideas!

Thanks smile.png

Oh and I had already googled and fb looking for local things, we are in a smaller area and when I search it gives me events that are too far away for me to get to by the time hubby gets home...and no bus route nearby ..doh!

Have you tried meetup.com? There are lot's of groups on that site for hobbies, outdoor activities and pretty much anything else you could think of. Just plug in your zip code and the distance you want to search, and it will give you the results of everything in your area.

Here's the link to their homepage. http://www.meetup.com/

i say find the chambers of commerce around you,

and go in person, talk to whoever is there,

and sign up to volunteer at the various events and meetings they hold throughout the month.

you'll be meeting business owners when yer volunteering, and that's a big plus when yer looking for a job, later, as folk remember folk at the chamber of commerce meetings and events.

rural, are you ? volunteer at the 4-H club.

ya, the chamber of commerce in your area is a big deal. if you are in a small town, is best to find not only the one for that town, but all of them in a 30 mile radius, and start talking with the staff at each chamber of commerce, signing up to volunteer at each event. Whilst volunteering there, you'll meet business owners and sales geeks . I'm not suggesting you go to the meetings just to go to the meetings, but actually volunteer, man the info table just inside the door (that's just one example).

Great advice Darnell. I have knowledge in networking, though I come from a small city back in Canada where everyone knows everyone, and you just 'know" whats going on, so this will be a new challenge for me, looking forward to it
