Hello fellow filers,

I figure it's about time to start this thread.

I am going to send my N-400 application - based on 5 year residency on August 1st.

Here are the list of documents

  1. Completed N-400 form
  2. G-1145(E-Notification of Application)
  3. A check for $680 toward application fee ($595) and biometric service fee ($85)
  4. Two recent photographs of me, each with my name and Alien number printed on the back
  5. A copy of both sides of my permanent resident card
  6. A copy of my driver’s license
  7. A copy of my driving record

I got speeding tickets, although each of those tickets resulted in fine that is less than $500, I decided to send my driving record anyway.

The tax return requirement does not seem to be applicable for an application based on 5 year residency? Can someone confirm this?

It's recommended that you bring your last 5 years tax transcripts to the interview. They may or may not ask for it, but it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. All the best for the future!

I'm getting ready to file on 08/14 based on my marriage to an US citizen and being a resident for 3 years. I got the green card on 11/12/10 and currently waiting for the response on the ROC, they asked for additional evidence on 05/02, which I mailed, but they claim they haven't received it yet, I have a receipt with signature just in case and already opened a service request to have the issue looked into. I'm hoping this doesn't become a problem.

Here's what I'm sending:

- N-400 Application completed

- Copy of both sides of green card and 1 yr extension letter.

- 2 Identical photos with the A# in the back.

- Check for $680

- Copy of husband's certificate of naturalization.

- IRS tax transcripts for 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Questions about overdue tax and naturalization..

So I want to flle for citizenship but I received a letter from the IRS stating that owe money due to some adjustments(1099c- loan forgiveness) they did on my 2011 return (Not filing taxes is not an issue here for I always file my 1040 on time without any gaps). To make the story short , I called irs and set up a payment plan which they approved right away but they said It may take almost a month before I get the actual paperwork on my mail which I needed badly for my citizenship application. Do you think I can still go ahead and file my n400 without the payment agreement as a supporting documents? I did put it on my application that I owe money from the irs and I attached the bill that IRS sent me with my signature requesting a payment plan. I really need your opinion on this because Im dying to send my application right away before I end up spending my application fee on stupid things. Thanks everyone!

Hi August filers. My hubby is filing for citizenship based on 3 years of marriage to me (USC). Assuming he gets the pictures taken this weekend, it will all go in the mail monday. We are sending in the following:

Application

Copy of green card (front and back)

$680

Proof I am a USC (birth certificate)

3 years IRS transcripts

Marriage certificate

Our child's birth certificate

3 years of bank statements (staggered by approx. 6 months)

Beneficiary statement for life insurance

Should be enough. I'm sick of this process and writing checks to the Department of Homeland Security.

I think you and I are almost on the "same boat" regarding the IRS owed tax thing. We filed every year, is just that we owe a lot because me and my husband is doing our taxes as self-employed, anyway, I was really anxious to get my N-400 file. But at the same time I don't want to get rejected too because of "cannot wait" attitude I have. So I choose to go on the safe side, I waited to get all the documents from them (IRS), the payment plan, signed agreement and the status of account, and yes it took like three to four weeks before I got it all gathered together. Now I am on the next step which is the- waiting- for- them to- send me the notice that they receive it and that they cashed the money. I guess I can go to the bank on Monday to check it out, as our bank here is one of those banks that doesn't do the online banking thingy. Still old style. :), anyway, good luck!
