Everything lost in a fire - please advise

I noticed this comment on a new member's profile page and have posted it here so it will have greater public notice for our members to offer advice.

In November our house was burned down, we lost everything including his passport,k-1 visa,x-ray and his shot records. Please any strong advice on what we should do? Thanks!!!

Are you ready to file now?

Contact the doctor's office where he had his medical to see if they have a copy. If not, you may need to go to a civil surgeon and pay to have it re-done.

Make sure you have a police/ fire report stating that the passport was lost. Get a new passport from your country's embassy. Contact USCIS (I recommend making an infopass appointment and going to see them in person) and ask what to do about the burnt visa.

Like Penguin, I think the info-pass is about #1, then start recreating your life and documents. Hopefully your homeowners insurance will cover the cost of document recreation. A suggestion to all is to get a fire safe or safety deposit box and put a CD and or papers with important documents in them. The K1 medical will be in the records turned in at POE, including the DS-3025. If all shots were received, then the original DS-3025 is with USCIS and should be enough. With so much to reconstruct, I wouldn't worry about the medical part. Just wait and see if an RFE is issued, then worry about it at that time. Sometimes they misplace the medical file and you have to do it over, but hopefully yours is all there and is one thing you don't have to do anything further about.
