Actually USCIS conducts criminal background checks on the petitioner to make sure they even qualify to file a petition. They also do some kind of check on the beneficiary I guess to see if they ever been petitioned for in the past etc etc. I would think there is more then 30 mins involved. If they send for an FBI report I think that takes a few weeks. USCIS also has to verify documents you send in like a divorce decree, birth certificates, etc etc. They send requests to the Department of Vital Statistics of the States where you obtained the documents to verify that they are real. There is a lot more involved then you might think. You know if a petitioner has been involved in any kinds of crimes of moral turpitude or domestic violence, that can disqualify them from being eligible from even filing immigration papers for anyone. This is just some of the things that go on at USCIS.

I wonder why it takes so long for people then who have squeaky clean records -- the only things I have are traffic *infractions* (not misdemeanors) and even those, all two of them, are from 2003-2004.

I would doubt that CSC needs to wait on FBI or other departments for *any* background checks. In this high-tech world they can have all the information available on a fingertip. I agree that they would do different types of background checks for petitioner and beneficiary, but I still feel it's all done by one person at CSC in a short period of time and mostly in 30 minutes or so.

Agree. My record is very crystal clear and still waiting for NOA2. It's just CSC cannot handle more than certain number of applications per month.

LOL you would think for all the technology we have these days it'd take a matter of seconds to process each application. Sometimes I think we're worse off b/c of all this high-tech stuff.

I don't think it matters if you have never been in trouble or been in trouble, still takes same amount of time to check you out. Its when you get flagged for something on your criminal history is when you have a problem.

Ask yourself on the other way. Do you really think all criminal records and background information are available only on papers these days and not stored electronically? I would be surprised if such records are only available on papers and not electronically.

I try to not get ahead of myself. Don't let go of the reigns of my mind or whatever. Keep myself on a short leash. I have nothing to hide, no offense to anyone else but I feel coming from the part of the world I am from, I have as good a chance at getting approval as anyone else. I don't think there's anything that the authorities will see as a reason not to let me move to the US to be with my wife, the woman who I love more than anyone on this earth. But I don't take anything for granted. Who knows? I feel all I can do is be patient, bide my time or whatever. It gets frustrating at times, waiting, waiting, waiting... But what can you do? In my honest opinion it is better to play by the rules, do things the way the USCIS wants me to. It may take time but it's worth it in the end if I can just be with my baby. (L)
