We also did not expect a two-month delay that came after my husband was referred for further TB testing. Because we needed to go on a foreign trip, we asked the consular officer if we could come back another time to drop off the passport. She prepared a 221(g) letter that said only a passport was needed. A day after submitting the passport, we were notified that my husband needed to submit his expired passport as well, the one he used for filing the I-130 petition. The day after we turned the expired passport in, we received the IR-1 visa, but I think it helped that we had also included a note in our submission asking that the passport be returned to us before Friday, when we were due to travel.	2018-03-04
