We arrived about an hour early (I overcompensated for Houston Traffic) and waited in our car until about 10 minutes before the interview was scheduled. The officer outside asked to see our interview letter and asked questions you would expect such as "have you been knowingly exposed to covid or had any covid symptoms? Do you have any weapons on you? etc, etc..." The staff was very pleasant while guiding us through the metal detectors and through the check in desk. She gave us a number on the interview letter and told us to have a seat. Maybe about 10 minutes later (around the scheduled time) we were called into the back by the interviewer. We followed him to his office and he swore us in before we sat down. He first started by requesting my wife's passport/visa and information from me proving my citizenship and residence. Afterwards, he requested documentation proving our relationship. We brought a few items, a print out of her access to my bank account as a joint account, my insurance with her on it as well, and the lease information for our apartment which had her name on it too, and finally photos throughout her time here with me. After he looked over that information, he started the interview portion. Questions (to me) What is your name and date of birth? Questions (to my wife): 1. what is your name and date of birth? 2. what is your country of origin? 3. when did you arrive in the us? "I arrived on June 29th" 4. "When did you get married?" "August 29th" 5."how was the wedding? was it a big wedding, or small?" "it was small, we got married at a courthouse" 6. "Did any family attend the wedding?" "no, it was just us, we updated family afterwards" Then the rest of the questions seemed to be the legal questions required to ask. have you commited a crime, have you been arrested, are you involved in any terrorist organizations, have you sold weapons, have you sold illegal controlled substances, have you participated in human trafficking, etc, etc. To which all the answers to these questions were of course no. Afterwards he needed to confirm a few things about my wife's medical exam as it was taken before she moved here back in 2019. He had told us that they are technically 2 different groups, the Visa providers and them who approve green cards, each with their own rules and requirements. He thought that we might need to get another medical exam so that they would have one that wasn't expired. He let us know that if we do need to get that, then he will send the request, we can mail the exam to him and he would approve it. He reassured us that excluding that, he was going to approve it. He confirmed with someone else, and let us know we will most likely need to have another medical exam. After that, we left the office. On our way back home, I received a call from the interviewer, he let me know that the medical exam would actually NOT be required and that he will be mailing an approval notice within two weeks. I am not sure exactly what determines the requirements or what he found that was able to overturn his decision, either way my wife and I are very happy that she does not need another medical exam as they can be quite pricy. Overall the experience was very pleasant, our interviewer was very polite and helpful. My wife had been concerned as we have heard some extreme cases of interviewers being very invasive and rude. But this was not the case at all. Luckily I believe most of the time the experience is good and that the bad experiences are the ones that are more loudly noted. This has been a very long process and we are very excited to have the light at the end of the tunnel. I hope this helps anyone else in the process as well, and good luck with your own process!
