GP1977 Iryna & Gary K1 Baltimore MD 2019-01-08 2019-01-11 2019-01-29 2019-02-04 2019-09-09 2020-01-14 Yes 2020-01-18 Baltimore does not generally approve on the spot. here are some exceptions but this seems to be done the majority of the time. The letter which we were given at the interview told us to please wait at least 120 days and at that point we may make an inquiry through the national customer service center or we may request an infopass appointment. The letter was had the name of the local field office director in Baltimore. At 122 days I called the national customer service center requesting an infopass appointment, was routed to tier 2, and was told its not a thing to request an infopass for case update. I asked for him to please explain to me why the field office director would have letters issued with his name and title on the bottom of the letter if its not a thing? They Tier 2 officer kept on talking in circles and really couldn’t give me an answer. I asked him for the email address for the officer handling my case so I could reach out directly. He said he didn’t have it. I asked for him to call the local Baltimore field office. They said he can’t do it but maybe he supervisor could. So he put me on hold and got his supervisor. This supervisor told me the same thing. That the prior officer was correct and that infopass appointments are not for case status updates and he couldn’t speak to the letter that I received. He told me I could complain to the ombudsman about the letter. I told him I have no interest in making a complaint as that does not solve my issue at hand. He then advised for me to make an online inquiry. I told him we both know that it’s a waste of time and it wont get anyone moving on the case. He didn’t acknowledge this directly but seemed to agree with me. I asked him to call the local office and the officer handling my case to see what was going on. He said he couldn’t do that. I asked him what else I could do. He advised for me to write a letter to the local field office director that was listed on the case. I basically did a pre writ of mandamus letter. Outlined my concerns and said I was reaching out prior to filing a writ of mandamus and that I wanted the case to be adjudicated as its been over 120 days since the interview. I found the email address for the field office director online and sent it to him via email and also sent signed receipt certified mail delivery via USPS. That letter was received on Monday and on Tuesday morning at 9am I received a notification that the case was updated to “New Card is being produced”. I would suggest to push and push if its been over 120 days.. No reason to keep people waiting this long when other offices approve on the spot. 2023-08-22

Privic P & V Other Los Angeles CA 2019-09-26 2019-10-02 2019-10-21 2020-01-14 2020-01-14 Yes 2020-01-22 Adjusting from a B1 visa. The officer spent about 20 minutes asking questions about the development of our relationship. She didn't directed any question to one or the other, so we tried to take turns answering. She was typing all the time, and asked us to speak slower, because she was trying to register everything, as it would be useful for future processes. E.g.: When and how did you meet? How did you communicate back then? When did the relationship become romantic? How many times did you visited each other? Did you live together before marriage? Who was there in the wedding day? Where was it? What did you do after the courthouse? Then she asked if we had further evidence to provide, stating at the same time that what we sent in the initial package was enough. She didn't even looked at them, just said it would be good for removing conditions. She didn't really care about my J1 waiver, but said would keep a copy "just in case". (That was a bit frustrating, considering that obtaining the J1 waiver was a very stressful process haha). That was followed by confirming questions on I-864 and I-485. She said "let me see if I can make my decision today" and took about 10 minutes in her computer, but kept small talking to us. She approved on the spot, gave me an approval letter and explained the ROC process. We were still in the building when I got approval text notification. 2024-07-15

JL & MO K1 Jacksonville FL 2019-07-20 2019-07-26 2019-08-12 2019-10-31 2020-01-14 Yes Took 10 weeks from initial interview to approval. Also required second interview. Critically important for people to remember that the I-485 needs to be signed by the applicant and the officer during the interview. My wife was not asked to sign during the interview, and that set us back 10 weeks. Not sure why we could not have been called in sooner. The worst part was wondering what the heck was going on. They don't inform you that the delay is due to a missing signature, and it's a matter of finding time in the schedule to get you back. They provide no information, so you have to prepare for any contingency. I almost hired a lawyer, but we were doing lots of research and stumbled on the issue of the signature, and my wife definitely remembered that she did not sign anything during the interview. 2022-11-15

Searocko Robin & Larry K1 Seattle WA 2018-09-18 2018-11-01 2018-11-23 2020-01-13 2020-01-13 Yes No 2020-01-18 Arrived at 7am for our 7:15am appointment in Seattle. Photo and prints of index fingers were taken of the beneficiary. Went upstairs and was called in at 7:20. The officer was very personable and kind. Probably because we were one of her first interviews of the day. ;-) IDs, passports, EAD/AP card were checked. Interview went smoothly with most of the time spent verifying the yes/no questions on the I-485. Additional questions included dates of marriage, birthdays and where born, entry date using the K-1 visa. Where was the ceremony held. How many people attended the ceremony and reception. Who were the witnesses and your relationship to them. Names of my wife's parents and where are they living. Where did we go for our honeymoon and other places that we've visited since the wedding. The only additional information requested was employment verification and pay stubs for the beneficiary since we mentioned that she is currently working. I also provided a letter from the bank verifying our joint account, car insurance policy and registration with both of our names, and photos of us together from the wedding day until now. No additional medical or immunization records were needed. I'm glad we didn't get another medical done and that was the only worry I had for a possible RFE since it has been over a year since my wife's medical was done in Guangzhou. There's conflicting information on this forum and some are getting a new medical just in case. The officer said K-1s are easier since most of the work was done up front at the consulate. The majority of the listed documents to bring on the I-485 interview notice were already submitted during the process and the officer had it in her folder. The interview notice is a standard form not specifically tailored to K-1 applicants so there's a lot of redundancy. Since it was 16 months since the AOS was filed, I brought updated copies of my tax return, W-2, and pay stubs. It turns out it was unneeded. Everything else listed that were previously submitted were not asked for. However, I had copies just in case. It probably depends on the officer doing the interview and we were lucky to get a kind and knowledgeable one. We were done after 20 minutes and was given a letter saying our case was being continued upon further review and was told to expect a decision in 30-60 days since it had to be sent to Texas for processing. However, I checked online a few hours later and the status changed to "my new card is being produced." The interview was the easiest part of the entire process. Don't sweat it and you'll be fine! 2023-08-24
