Everyone at the embassy in San Jose, CR is polite and helpful. Did not have a problem getting through security and presenting at the service desk. The wait time was not long... we went in an hour early for our 1pm appointment, had the interview, and got approved all in about 45 minutes. We got in our car and drove off at around 1:45!
The interviewer was polite and asked us questions about our relationship mainly, as well as if I was the sole sponsor, and if my husband had read the IMBRA packet on immigrant rights/domestic violence. All of the questions were super easy to answer, and he was really just looking to see if our relationship was real.
As for logistics, there is parking across the street of the embassy. Make sure you have no electronics on you when you go up to the first gate because they will make you go back and store all your electronics before entering the embassy.
Great experience, had no issues.

On Monday we had our visa interview at the US embassy in Costa Rica.
The night before, my wife happened to notice a line in the instructions, saying that if any of your civil documents are from a country other than Costa Rica, they need to be affixed with an apostille.  If taken literally the way it is worded, this suggests that a marriage certificate from the United States would need an apostille. Â
Obviously it makes no sense to have a document from the US apostilled to present to the US, but the thought of maybe being delayed because of something that stupid worried us.
The wording of the instructions is a bad choice.  We presented our US marriage certificate without an apostille, and it was accepted without problem (it was the original certified copy with the embossed state seal on it).

We arrived at 1:05 Pm for our 1:30 Pm apt. When we got there they checked us off on their list and we went into security. There was no line or anything. We had folders of papers and a bag of albums, but they made us throw out a small wooden picture frame. After that we got a number and we sat and waiting to be called for document collection.
15 minutes or so passed and we got called to a window (you stand there and their microphones are very loud so everyone can hear your interview haha). The woman was very polite and took our documents one by one, including translations. She asked us:
-When we got married.
-If either of us have been divorced.
-If he had been to the USA before.
After that she took the docs and cut me off after a few pieces of evidence for the relationship and said that would be plenty.

PARKING:
There is a parking lot beside the embassy, which you pay (not sure how much per hour since my husband took care of that).
DAY OF INTERVIEW 04/22/19:
We arrived 20 min before interview and stood in a line outside of the building. We were the second in line. A lady came out to ask if we had an interview and what my spouses' name was, since he was the applicant. They asked who I was and I said I was the petitioner. They had no issue with me walking in with him. We walked in and went through security. They took our paperwork and they opened our medical exam and then stapled it back again. We only took in the car keys. No cell, no wallet, and no watches (personal choice we wanted to play safe). They took our car keys and put them in a little bag and locked them up. They gave us a small key to keep with us, so we could get our keys after the interview. We went through a metal detector and our paperwork went through a scanner. My wife’s interview at the US Embassy in San Jose went very smoothly. I also attended without any problem. The appointment was at 1pm, and we arrived a little after 12pm just to be safe. Just follow the instructions you are sent (no electronics, bags etc.) and entry is easy. There was only one family in front of us, and one couple behind us, at the entrance. We waited about 10 minutes and then the guards checked our appointment letter, our IDs, and let us in.
We proceeded through the security line, past an atrium, and into the waiting room. There are about 10 DMV style windows, with only one being used. There were several USCs getting passport renewals and other services in one section, and CR citizens applying for visas on the other side of the room. We pulled a number from and were called almost immediately to the window.
