Went to the US Embassy in Montreal at 7:00 am. There was already 3 other VJ-er's there!
At exactly 7:30 AM they opened the door to let you enter the building. You get called in one by one. Enter the door, hand your payment proof and passport to the lady working at the desk. She will give you a laminated paper with a number on it. It will also give you instructions on what order to have your stuff in.
Then I was advised to enter the "scanning" room where they put your objects through a scanner. I was allowed to keep my wallet with me while my iPhone and car keys we're put into the filing cabinet behind the desk. You will be given a receipt. DO _NOT_ LOSE YOUR RECEIPT. You will need it when you are leaving and want to get your stuff back.
I was told to go down the steps and enter the room and arrange my files in order. (Honestly it could be ignored as later the person who will take your files later will ask them in a total different o... read complete review

It went as everyone had reviewed. My fiance got there early, it was a slushy, rainy day and he shared his umbrella with a couple who was also there for their K1 Visa interview. My fiance was lucky in the sense that he lived in Montreal and only had to take a bus to get to the Consulate. He left his backpack and phone at home and only took the binder of info with him. He didn't hear his number being called at first and a security guard had informed him that he was being called. It took just a few minutes before the woman who had our papers approved us.

Wait time: 0 - Very Poor Experience. Was assigned a time, and I was early, was screened and given a sticker for my passport plus a ticket. I took the elevator up only to find our appointment times mean nothing. They use a ticket system. I waited approximately 50 minutes past my appointment time.
Staff: 5 - Very Good Experience. The staff I dealt with were all friendly and direct.
I was called up twice. First time was to ask to see our documents. They only asked to see 2-3 documents from the whole checklist. This process took about 4 minutes. The second time I was called up I was asked 3 easy questions - Have I ever been married, how did we meet, have I met his friends and family. I was then approved on the spot. This took about 2-3 minutes, and most of that time was her typing or looking at info.
Overall, the wait time was the worst but the staff was friendly, including security.

I flew into Montreal from the Toronto island airport on Tuesday, May 14th. From the Montreal Airport I took the 747 bus to my hotel The Courtyard Marriott Downtown. The signs and machines in the airport to purchase bus tickets are clearly marked. I do not speak French and had no problems figuring it out. Some people have said that you can transfer to the metro at the first bus stop and it will get you where you’re going faster. I chose not to do that because minimizing transfers and hub bub minimizes anxiety for me. I was on the bus from 2:30pm to about 3:15pm, it was fine and honestly, only an additional 10-15 minutes or so from that first stop. I easily checked into the hotel which was less than a block from the bus stop (Jeanne-Mance St stop) Nice big clean room. Very pleasant staff.
Wednesday, May 15th, I arrived at the consulate at approximately 6:45am for my 7:30am appointment. I was the first person there. Slowly people began to arrive as we appro... read complete review

Had a nice time! Was first in line, get there super early. I arrived at 6:40 am and brought a book. No backpacks, oversized bags allowed. You can bring a cellphone, but you will surrender it.
They unlock the doors at 7:30 am, first ask for your passport and interview letter. You are given a sheet that specifies what number you are and the exact list and order your paperwork needs to be in.
No matter your time of interview, they process you in the order you go through the door. Thus, I was in first in, paperwork taken first, interview first, out the door first. I was wrapped by 8:15 am.
Very important! The Montreal checklist does specify that you need to have the affidavit of support, but you must bring it. It’s required along with the most recent tax receipts, both W-2 and the IRS Transcripts. If your documents submitted are from 2017, but your spouse or family member filed the 2018, bring those.
