  1. we submitted p3 on about january 13 and our interview is scheduled a month later.

i have a question. our interview is at 9:30am. what time must my fiance' be at the consulate? also, given that her interview is in the morning, is it typical that her interview would actually be on-time?

What is the exact date of your interview? That's funny b/c my fiancee submitted the P3 on Jan 13 and her interview is also in march at 9:30, March 17th to be exact.

  2. We have a Vietnamese Buddhist temple here in our town, and she goes there every week. The Su Phu and a couple of the nuns came to visit today, and they said we should visit Ha Long bay next time we go back. Phuong seemed to like that idea.

Jim, I highly recommend Ha Long bay, I took a vacation in VN with my ex-gf in 2008 and that was one of our destinations. It was an experience to remember.

Re: wanting to share the vaca with family. Yes, I think it's because to Viet's, people are much more important than places.

This is very true, more so with traditional women.

  3. Does anyone know if a US notary actually has anything to do with swearing the information is true? I've actually always seen it only as authenticating the signature on the form as being the right person b/c the notary public has checked the ID.

And to the OP, if your US bank does it for $5 to $10 change banks. Every bank I've ever used will do it for free.

And, finally, Jerome, when are you gonna get your notary license already!?

I work with a couple of notary and from what they told me, they do not have anything to do with the information. They job is simply to witness that you actually sign the document, if anything on that document is false, it falls on you.

  4. Western order for any documents submitted to the US government. Forget about the "first name" and "last name" labels because they don't really apply. Asian order is:

    <family name> <middle name(s)> <given name>

    Western order is:

    <given name> <middle name(s)> <family name>

    Very true.

Same applies to the way you write down dates.

  5. hey all long time no post. my wife and i have been though the hoops just like everyone here and now all is well. she has been living with me over a year in USA (wisconsin). we are now back in vietnam, this time is a vacation. got here on jan 19th (10pm) and were going back on the 18th of feb. we came here with some of her other family that lives in chicago. oh and we got married 12-12-09. my questions are this:

I have a black berry tour, a wolrd phone. it has a sim card and its unlocked. i can use a Vietnam SIM and it works for calls and SMS but internet and email is not working. were are in Vinh Long. and everyone here has never seen a BB b4 so they have no idea. anyone have a suggestion? we will be going to saigon for the day tomorrow.

now my 2nd question. Where can i Boric Acid in Vietnam? i want to make ant bait but i have no idea where to buy it. my wifes parents house has ants everywhere. and well id like to wipe them out at least as much as i can. they have been useing gas to kill them off around the house but like i said b4 i want to kill them with bait.

I also wanted to say: Hang in there everyone! it happend for me and it will happen for you! right now i have a stuffy nose but other than that im trying to live in up here in Ving Long! oh and if anyones in the area let me know, ill buy you a coffee or beer!

Fighting ants over there is like a fighting a losing battle, you will not win :hehe:

As far as the phone thing goes, it might not be your phone. GPRS is more common to be found, but it is very slow and buggy, 3g service is better but its range is very limited, you can only find it in in bigger cities. Most of the time, depending mainly on your device, activation is as simple as texting the phone service carrier, they will reply with further instruction and the process shouldn't take no longer than couple of minutes. I sent my fiance an Iphone and she has 3g connection at all time, it's a very very very handy thing.

  6. Exactly Tuan

Yep! I'm not saying this is a deciding factor, but it is one of the reason I decided to go oversea. While this is a huge double standard as I grew up in the state and didn't exactly live by the bible when it come to that subject, but it is my standard. I couldn't even stay over night in the same room with my fiancé last time I saw her and I was proud to tell everybody that no matter how much they chastised me for “going half way around the world and didn’t get none”. I’m so used to the freedom growing up in the states but I was more than glad to oblige her request.

  7. Greetings all, my fiancee recieved her intructional package a couple of weeks ago. We're currently gathering up the neccessary paperwork for the interview. My question is regaring the Affidavit of support, the package specified that I will need to fill out the form I-864 but members on here are telling me the I-134 is what I will need instead, so which one is it exactly or should I be safe and fill both out?. Can those who have one through this process recently chime in? Thank you!

  8. First of, thank you so much for all the information Jim!! You answered bunch of questions I had all in one post.

Secondly, can somebody move this to the Vietnam regional forum so there wouldn't be a need for a second thread, thank you.

    Here is our story:

I met her through a relative last March, we chatted constantly after that. I decided to visit her in June. We planned to spend that time together to see if we have chemistry in real life like we did online. Everything went extremely well so we decided to get engaged before I had to go back to the states. I came back and visited her again during thanksgiving and our petition was approved the day after christmas. The only obstacle I can see is the fact that she interviewed for a student visa roughly two years ago, she was declined due to "financial reasons", or so I was told. But that was two years ago so should I be concern?

  9. Thanks for the quick replies guys!! As far as evidence goes, I'm pretty confident about that. She will bringing the whole picture album from our traditional Vietnamese engagement party, all the pictures of us with a brief description for each picture, every single one of our yahoo conversation, phone bills, all the emails, she might even need a Uhaul to transport all this stuff. I'm just a bit confused at what she's been asking me to prepare, such as proof of marital status, criminal record, bank statement and a whole lot of other seemingly irrelevant stuff. She will be going through the Consul in Vietnam, HCM city to be more specific, I'm hoping to hear from somebody who has gone through them personally.

  10. Greetings all, this is my first post so I want to start out by saying hi to everybody.

I've been reading on the site about the K-1 process. I started the process for my fiance on July 26th and On Dec 26th I recieved the approval from USICS, shortly after my faince recieved her instructional package in which they instructed her to send in the DS-2001 and DS-230 Part I, they also instructed what she will need to prepare while waiting for the interview date. However, they did not mention about the petioner beside the Affidavit of Support (FromI-864), so I'm wondering what else do I need to prepare, or if any? I'm wondering b/c my fiance has a bad habbit of listening to everybody she talks to and it seems like they told her I would need all kinda of paperwork including criminal records ect ect.
