  1. AS, I think you're right about the interviewing skills. I can talk to anyone in any situation about anything but not in an interview. I can give awesome references about other people but I can't talk about myself. I feel like I'm bragging or being arrogant. Oh, and what's up with the "What is your weakness or biggest fault" question? How the hell are you supposed to answer that? Seriously, I would like to know.

Also, if anyone knows of some resources that could help my interviewing skills, I would appreciate it.

I'm a female and used to have a horrible time interviewing. I took a class on how to interview and I also took beginning acting in college. So yeah...when I feel like getting shy, I just 'act' like the confident, skilled worker I know I am. I always prepare for an interview by printing out every question I can think of that they might ask, then I write down my answers, then I practice saying them. I have a great job now. In fact, the last 3 jobs I had I was told i interviewed prety well. So even though interviews make me uncomfortable, I 'fake it till I make it'---cause I know I'm a good worker.

  2. I got my hubby 3 cards. One for his B-day, one for Valenitines, one for our six month anniversary. I wrote a novel in each one. I then got a magazine my husband likes. Put his face on the front, and wrote an article about him glued to the inside pages. And he also go a DVD.

  3. We did not really have a honeymoon. Next month we are going to Las Vegas.....Does that count?

We live in Hawaii. Wedded in Oregon. And had our honeymoon in Vegas. It was a blast! Highly recommend it. Hawaii wasn't an option for us because we live here!!

Did your husband like Las Vegas? I'm really excited to take mine there.

Yes. In fact I think he wants to live there!

  5. During his first week one of the veteran employees at his work asked him if he new what a keyboard was. haha. Anyway he is using the job as a stepping stone, but it has been hard.

Haha. Man. Someone at church tried to explain to my husband how the powerpoint came from a computer from that "box in the balcony." If they only knew that being from Africa does not mean you've never seen technology before. He's much more sophisticated than me (in thechnology) and I'm not that bad.

Try other temp agencies. My husband is the employee of at least 6 agencies. That way, if the 2-3 month jobs he has doesn't work out...he has alot to fall back on. Some of the temp agencies were great and some sucked. The main thing is not to get too discouraged.

  6. We just got a car last week and got great financing through the dealership. 5.25% They took our application to 5 financial institutions. I have good credit but not very much credit history. In fact all I have is a previus $2000 car loan and one MAcy's card. But we got a good deal and I couldn't be more happy. We went to a dealership with an excellent reputation, so that helps.

  7. I love my unique name and I always have. My parents almost named me Anna *shudders* Everyone tells me my name is beautiful and I know it. =-)

Is your name Onwa? We had a dog named that. Beautiful dog.

No. Its Kia. I knew a dog named that too (Kia). But its a beautiful name.

  8. Yeah--hubby watched it live on the internet. Starting at 3 am. But I did hear about how most the game went from the sounds coming from the living room. I'm so happy our team won! I will watch the highlights later. Had to get my beauty rest!

I didnt know that it could be watched online. What site do they go to? It would be great if my hubby could watch it from work.

    http://www.telesud.com

It's $6 per game or $30 for all the games. We just went ahead and paid the $30. Its been great. You need to have broadband internet, but my husband has been pretty happy with it. He'll have to get up at 3am tomorrow to watch the next game! Kind of glad because he'll still make it to work on time!

  10. JoeJ---I love big dogs! We will get one someday. We have a pet fish. At first my husband didnt understand how you can have a pet fish. But thus fish has so much personality--hubby has completely taken over his care--and the fish now likes him better than me! (its a weird fish I tell you!)

Well, it sounds like the most of us our happy with the household arrangements and have great spouses. Its actually something we discussed before he even got here.

In other news. Go Nigeria! They won again and will advance to the semi-finals. Since we watch the games live--my hubby got up at 3 am this morning!

  11. Since many of us now have our So's with us, how do you handle household chores? In the beginning my husband did most the cooking and the cleaning. But now that we're both working, I've found that we've pretty much split the work even---although he has yet to clean the bathroom! We are both very picky eaters and so make our own food. We either do our own dishes--or he does mine--or I do his--I do more of the general cleaning (sweeping, mopping, etc), but he never makes a mess. We take turns with the laundry, making the bed. He always takes out the trash. I always put in a new bag. He never has to be nagged about anything. I love it!! He also tells me I'm very blessed to have a Nigerian man who cooks and cleans. Well, I'm definitely blessed to have him no matter what! But tell me--how does the rest of you handle chores?

  12. I have a friend who told me about the experience in S. Africa. The consular was quite corrupt and they fought for 5 years to get it corrected. The story is such a sad one but they did finally triumph and the consular was replaced. The couple just came to the US in 2004.

I am definitely interested in hearing more about the issues with the consulate in South Africa...if you have more information, I would like to study it if I can. Was this couple alone in fighting this consulate, etc.

    ~Kiya

We went through South Africa and found them to be fast and efficient and fair. i was a bit worried becasue Nigerians are NOT well liked in South Africa. So I think the new consular is doing a great job.
