I can't believe the case made it this far with that type of error. As to what to do I would definately correct it on any forms going forward. A brief note to the NVC with an explanation may not be a bad idea. At least it shows them you are not trying to be fraudulent.

    Jlo.
As the process has started do not worry about the name change. When you reach your POE you will be taken to a small processing room and at that time you can request that your name be changed to your married name. It is the easiest and least confusing of any option. Just be sure to do it before leaving the processing room. Any information from that point on such as your GC will have your requested name change. My wife and I went through this and we never had one moment's problem. Just make sure from that point to write your married name on any document.
As to the passport, it is difficult for Colombians to change the name on their passports (this discussion happens here from time to time) whether in Colombia or at a consulate here in the U.S. My wife has travelled several times back and forth and was only one time asked for her marriage license which was the first time she came. Good luck.

do you want the domicile, or no ?
if no, simply remove yourself from it.
if yes, go back to the court where you filed the divorce, and file an addendum of domicile, asking a judge for a removal order on the foreign spouse and child. Usually (in Texas) a county constable can enforce the removal order, if arrangements are made through the judge and the court.

re: financial obligations - study the I-864 that you signed. it remains in place regardless of divorce, until she becomes a citizen or has given up residency in USA or has amassed 40 quarters of income from working.

I know we are all used to "proving" our relationships up to this point. But at this stage of the game the only thing we have to prove is the time in the U.S.A (3 or 5 years depending on the circumstances of our application.) ... and of course passing the citizenship test!
So I don't think there is much to stress about. I just sent what they asked for, no more - no less.
But send what makes you feel comfortable.

If you are asked any question/s about receiving assistance you should answer truthfully and honestly. Telling untruths for benefits is never proper. If your husband's income would have excluded you for medicaid then you should not have received medicaid. Sorry for your loss.

It's marriage! If you don't have a stable income you are doomed. Let's make it 6 figures...I qualify and so do most successful marriages.

It's absurd that in this day and age that visas would still be granted based on infatiation. No more K-1 visas! If an American citizen can't or won't or refuses to take the time and expense to marry a person in a foreign land then no visa should be granted. Furthermore, if any financial means is needed outside of the USC's income then no visa should be granted. Life is tough, suck it up.

To be a co-sponsor is undertaking a serious financial responsibility, much like co-signing for a loan. It is a very personal decision.

Wayne and Claudia got a reaction from Nich-Nick in US Citizen living in UK tax question
Yes, US Citizens and LPRs are required to file taxes regardless of their location. They most likely won't owe any taxes on that income but they must file. If you had income in England you must report that on the tax forms for the US. You can fix it by filing the tax form that is missing. On the IRS website you can download pryor years' forms. If you are not required to pay taxes by the IRS Guidelines then you must clearly state this and quote the IRS guide (section and number).

Fiancee visas are garbage. They are lifelong commitments for puppy love. If the USC doesn't have the guts to marry their "love" in his/her country or if that person doesn't have the means to get a tourist visa then maybe it's not "made to be." I will raise the stakes and say anyone who makes less than 45,000 a year should not even be considered to sponsor someone and no co-sponsors. I am just sick of reading things where people can't afford a 2,500 dollar trip at least every 6 months. Or they gripe about a 20 dollar charge for this or for that. Grow up folks. Life is expensive.

This is absolutely not true. My wife and I both were at the interview and we were both asked questions, although all I was asked for was my passport and most recent tax form. In most cases it is looked upon with great favor that a spouse would travel to be with their spouse for such an emotional day. I suggest to the poster to read the consular reviews of the embassy the interview will be held at for country-specific examples.
