  1. Thankfully I had scheduled an Infopass 2 weeks ago, just in case I didnt get the interview letter, for today. Went to the NYC office this morning and the ISO lady was very helpful. Though I didnt agree with her that the two interviews were due to Congressional office's involvement: one was scheduled to come as planned and the other was forced by Congressional office. If I hadn't reached out to Congresswomen, I still would have been waiting for the letter.

Anyhow, she took my appointment letters and went "up" to the floor where they conduct the interviews and spoke to the Supervisor so to de-schedule the Garden City interview. I later went up to talk to the Supervisor who was a very nice lady as well and said that I should come to NYC on March 15 as the first letter indicated. She said she would contact Garden City personally to de-schedule the second.

That was a very pleasant experience, unexpected though. Infopass appointments do help.

  2. After waiting 6 months for my interview letter, I now have TWO (2) interview letters and strangely enough each is for different location and date/time. I live in NYC and my first letter states to appear on March 15 at 8:00 AM in the NYC office (7 miles). The other asks to come to Garden City, NY (27 miles) on March 28th at 1:15Pm - the day my wife is flying out of state.

    :ranting: :ranting:

Called USCIS and they are now saying that for one reason or the other my case has been transferred to Garden City - #######, seriously ####### !!!!!!!

  3. After months of wait, I finally received the AOS interview letter yesterday. Along with the "What to Bring" sheet they stapled Supplement to I693 something - one page form. And in the evalop they included blank I693 and I864, both the forms were filed with my original petition and I never got any RFE.

My question is, are these forms included as part of the standard interview letter or is USCIS expecting me to fill I-864 and I-693 AGAIN because they may have lost those?

  4. I am surprised I am the only August 2010 filer with an open case...if thats the case its good for other people to not be in a limbo.

Last week the lady from the Congressman's office sent us a response from the USCIS that the case will be made available for interview soon. Today I had an Infopass appointment and I was informed that yesterday my case was transferred to the NYC Field office and I should be getting scheduled for interview soon. Fingers crossed!

  5. I was born in Pakistan (naturalized in US in 2009). I know I am elligbile for NICOP. I have expired Pakistani passport and old NIC.

My husband is US born (not of Pakistani origin)- Can he get NICOP based on marriage to me?

Our daughter is a US born citizen. Can she get NICOP based on being child of Pakistani parent? btw, I did not register her with the Consulate.

We plan on traveling to Pakistan in May for my brother's wedding and would like to know if we can get NICOP's or do we all need to get visas?

I dont think your husband can (Why would you want to :) )get it but your daughter can, check out the following website. I would even call the consulate to find out more. They are usually helpful

UPDATE: Just saw you asked about travel. Your husband will definitely need the visa. Also, I think NICOP takes some time so apply ASAP

  6. Well i just wrote up a letter that i'm sending to my congresswoman. Hopefully she can do something. I'm just tired of feeling in limbo since i have no proof that i'm here legally. I mean i have the printout from uscis that i did apply for aos, but other than that..i have nada. i wont really feel at ease until i get that green card in the mail.

I would suggest you to write to the Senator and the Rep. Your follow-up alone may not do much. I recently wrote a letter to the congresswomen in my area and they assigned my request to someone within their office who deals with such requests. I spoke to that person in detail and explain my situation, frustrations, limitations, etc. She showed signs of compassion and hopefully is writing to USCIS.

You should ask them to help expedite the process and/or find out 'specific reasons' behind the delay.

  7. ...

Among the stranger (IMO) questions he asked was "So, given your salary, why did you buy the diamond for her ring online?" What on earth is the right answer to that? I found a vendor (based on a recommendation) that I trusted, and worked through them. That's what I told him, but he didn't seem to really care either way. Odd. We should have the card within a week or so!

Very interesting interview. That IMO really seem to make his job interesting. I dont know how I would have answered the denial question.

On the diamond question, could have been something he was planning to do in future and may have been interested in knowing the reason between online vs. B&M stores :)

  8. I know this may not sound ethical but I think you should mention 'serious health emergency' in family and get the letter from the doctor, if you can, that simply talks about surgery not an "Eye" surgery. I know they have something related to health/family emergency in their list.

Inky is right, even if you try again, its not going to help because an Eye surgery doesnt meet the requirement and quite honestly rightly so unless you can prove to him that your father is going to be all by himself and he needs someone to hold his hands after surgery etc. Having responsibility being the eldest doesnt cut it for them! My 2 cents.

  9. We applied in June 2010, received RFE July 17 and sent RFE August 16 and didn't hear anything about our AOS until yesterday 1/06/11 when we received the interview letter for 2/08/11.

    Good Luck!!!

Just noticed that they delayed your bio appointments for 5 months, which probably delayed your whole process. Wonder whats the hold-up for me. By the way, which Congressman did you write to?

  10. We applied in June 2010, received RFE July 17 and sent RFE August 16 and didn't hear anything about our AOS until yesterday 1/06/11 when we received the interview letter for 2/08/11.

    Good Luck!!!

Thats good. Glad to hear that at least its moving - even in a completely random order. When I called last time they told me NYC office is processing June 3rd cases, may be they have moved up a little. I am guessing I'll get a letter in a month. this is insane!

Good luck on the interview, keep us posted on how it went. I have been seeing that lately NYC applicants are not getting their decisions right on the spot and are being told to wait 60 days. Hope they give you on the spot.
