Innocent children pay for their parents criminal behavior all the time. What about the children who have parents in prison? It's not their fault their parents broke the law. Should we offer them some kind of special benefit? Maybe if the parents that broke the law would be willing to face the penalties, then that might be something to talk about. Otherwise it just sends the message that you can bring your children here illegally, and at some point they will become legal.
Also, what about all the people that are separated from their families for long periods of time (sometimes a year or more) while they work their way through the legal immigration system? Maybe fix that first before rewarding illegal behavior.
