    People seem to keep forgetting that USCIS is only one step in the process...........
    NVC and Consulate are under state department. SHOULD the government shut down, BOTH of those services would be rendered staffless.
    Meaning everyone past USCIS would be in limbo.
    Least we not forgot the 1995/1996 shutdown delayed 80,000 visas.

    That's easy for you to say. You got your NOA1 on 4/26/10 and got the NOA2 on 8/4/2010.....a total wait time of around 3 1/2 months. Most people on VJ nowadays will have to wait 5+ months to get an NOA2. Everybody has their own way of dealing with the frustration of waiting. Just let them deal with it in their own way. It's all good

    I recommend that you start your journey by reading the Guides provided by that website. Once you are more familiar with the immigration terminology, please do come back and ask more questions (http://www.visajourn...content/k1guide)
    I also recommend that you contact a fellow Visa Journey member by the name of "TBoneX". The reason I recommend this is because you will be dealing with one of the toughest Embassies in the world (Ecuador) in terms of getting a K1 visa.

    Kiwi, you can't just throw numbers around like that. 316,000 casualties > 100 casualties so it has to be worse. Worrying about catching a disease if you are sending people back to Haiti is not exclusive to the earthquake. This applies to MOST natural disasters. It's this easy number throwing that gets a lot of people upset.
    I said before that my fiance lived in dirty poverty conditions. It is totally unhealthy the way she lived. Totally 100% unhealthy. But it's not reported on the news. Nobody cares. So my fiance's suffering is worthless compared to Haitians according to USCIS.
    I filed my petition in May 2010. A few other friends of my fiance also did the same. I heard rumors about this expedite happening for Haitian petitions and I would not have any of it. I bitched so often and so loud that the USCIS almost begged me to stop. I send several hundred letters, email and phone calls to USCIS, my state governor, Senator and Reps. This happened around the 3 1/2 month mark. Shortly before reaching the 4 month mark, I got my petition approved. Do you know what happened to my other friends who applied in May 2010 just like me? Every one of them waited over 6 months. Right around Thanksgiving they got approved. As of this date, they are still waiting to schedule an interview while my wife is already living with me.
    I say that this picking who suffers more by the USCIS is unjust. You either fight them like I did or get pushed around and get served last. That is my 2 cents worth.

    I just want you to know that my post is intended to point out the B.S from USCIS, not you ok?
    In the Philippines, 19 died and over 200,000 lost their property as a result of flash flooding from Megi. Don't just focus on 1 disaster. They get hit over and over again. The 300,000 + that died in Hiati are not immigrating anywhere. They are going to Heaven. Have you ever traveled to Asia? Do you know that most Asian countries, like the Philippines, gets hit multiple times by typhoons. Don't believe me? Ask VJ'rs from the Philippines regional forum or check out this link:

    Just go to the West Pacific section and select any year from that list. Check out 2009 and see how often the Phil's got hit.
    The point was, who is the USCIS to decide who suffers more then somebody else? Let's use an analogy: Look at a few posts from up above by JiaYou and Coconuts about it being easy to travel to visit their fiance because some live in Canada versus Asia. It was perceived as being offensive because how can somebody else determine what is difficult travel for another person? They have no idea what the job situation or financial situation is of the other person. So traveling to Canada may be JUST as difficult for one person, as it is to travel to Asia for another person.
    That is my main point. How can any one person or group of people quantify human suffering or death and just sit there and say "oh this is worse then the other". To the families of the 19 dead in the Philippines from Typhoon Megi, that WAS the worst disaster they ever faced. But I guess suffering, like what happens in Asia as a result of typhoons is just not enough suffering in the eyes of the USCIS.

    Kiwi, I really, truly and totally feel where you are coming from but honestly who are YOU to make that decision for somebody else, in this case AI422? You don't have the moral authority to decide what is more important for somebody else. Trust me Kiwi, in my heart I know 100% where you are coming from.
    My fiance comes from a rotten 3rd world country.....Vietnam. She has lived in poverty and crime her entire life but our case was NEVER expedited. I guess her suffering was not enough suffering to get expedited the way the Haitian petitions are. I just decided that I was not having any of that and yelled/screamed until every Senator, Governor, Representative and everybody at USCIS heard me and they ended up approving my case just before reaching 4 months.

    I agree with TheLastPetitioner. In the end, all this arguing and bickering isn't going to make this process any faster. Unfortunately it is what it is. For now, TPS applicants should be getting quicker responses while I-129F/I-130 bases petitions will have to wait. JoyDee, I see that you filed your petition in November. The TPS thing is only going to make you wait another 4-5 months so if you are comfortable with that, more power to you
    As far as the Constitution issue that was brought up. This one really baffles me. JoyDee, when I read your interpretation about the Constitution I had to step away and just go outside my house for a few minutes and just shake my head in disappointment. I just have to say this: Come on man!!!! Are you kidding me???
    Okay. Let me quote a few lines from the Constitution:
    "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
    I bolded the word "People" in order to draw attention to the next quote from Article I, Section 2 from the Constitution:
    "The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States, and the Electors in each State shall have the Qualifications requisite for Electors of the most numerous Branch of the State Legislature."
    Who elects members into the House of Representatives? The "People" do. Last time I checked, only US Citizens are allowed to vote in Congressional/Presidential elections. In other words "People" = US Citizens.....
    Listen guys, I don't want to get off topic here.
    As far as the TPS thing goes, you can either chose to wait (preferred but the toughest method) or you can complain (not preferred but can produce results as happened in my case). I know this is hard. My fiance's interview is tomorrow and I am nervous

    I agree 100% with you. This is exactly why I decided to complain to my Congressman and the USCIS over and over until I got what I wanted. I will admit that I was pre-mature and very excessive with my inquiries. If I had not done what I did, the USCIS Adjudicator I spoke with said that I could have waited until Halloween this year to get my NOA2! I started to hear the rumors about the USCIS being flooded with those TPS applications and I refused to be thrown to the back of the pack for that.
    WE are the US Citizens. WE are the taxpayers. WE have the rights. TPS applicants pay $50 for a 3 month wait. I-129F applicants pay $455 for a 5 month wait. The USCIS expects us to pay 4x as much.....and wait longer for service?? Who are they kidding?
    My advise for Other people: Wait until the exact day that you hit your 5 month mark. Once you hit it, go full force and hold them accountable to that so called 5 month mark that they publish on their website.

    Nonsense.
    Before I begin, let me be real clear about one thing. I've got beef with Christianity and other religions as well, not just Islam. I question EVERYTHING and refuse to just accept things because they are the way they are or because they are religions. I will criticize when I feel criticizing needs to be done.
    Critics have every right to criticize, NOT INSULT, but criticize Islam after 9/11. As soon as the words "Allhu Akbar" came out of the hijackers mouths, it became religiously motivated. Anybody that denies this, needs a brain transplant. If Christians or Jews had committed 9/11, I would be saying the SAME thing towards them.
    Call me ignorant if you want. But what I find really ignorant is when people try to use examples of other violent activities to wash their hands clean and say "Oh but other people also commit violent terrorist crimes so why is this so bad?" Let me tell you something, where there are over 1.5 billion Muslims in the world, most of which are in the Middle East, that DON'T respect Americans, that DON'T respect our freedoms, that DON'T respect our ways of live and a lot of them resorting to "religious fanaticism" to commit terrorist acts, you have got one hell of a problem and that "Oh but other people also commit violent terrorist crimes so why is this so bad?" excuse ain't gonna cut it.....
    If they make their terrorist acts religiously motivated, please do EXPECT the criticism also to be religiously motivated.....
