I had my interview today.  It was at 8am, but I arrived around 7:30.  There were already whole lot of people getting in the building.  Going through the check in was a breeze, everyone was very friendly.  The agent called around 8:10 with about 10 people going in before me.  The agent that interviewed me was so friendly and very nice.  There was another agent in the room, but she just observed.  She went over some personal info, put me under oath, and then we did the test first.  I read the sentence "Who elects congress?", then I wrote "People elect congress".  My civics test was 6 questions:  Who wrote the declaration of independence, who is in charge of the military, name 3 original states, name one state that borders Mexico, which party is president's party, and which two parties are there in the USA.  Very easy.  Then she asked me all the questions for my eligibility that I answered on my application.  She goes through all of them, so know your answers.  I found out that if you're a member of a union at work, you declare it on that question about if you're a member of any organizations, groups....  Then I showed her my parking ticket I had 4 years ago that I forgot to declare on the application and she said it's no biggie, she did take copy of the receipt.  That was it.  She said I passed and I will be getting the letter about my oath ceremony in the mail, and the ceremony should be within 45 days.  My status changed immediately on my uscis app, saying my oath will be scheduled soon.

Good luck everyone, I'm so glad this is almost over!

They did not say anything about that.  There were lots of seats in the room and some were not filled for my oath.  I think that if there were too many people, they would be able to stand because there was lots of room.

I had my oath ceremony today at the US District Court.  My letter said to show up at 1pm.  We were there around 12:45.  There was a big line up when we got there.  We got through security and then we had to wait in line to sign the naturalization certificate.  They gave us the flag and a packet with passport application, couple of booklets and other papers.  A lady was there with forms to register to vote.  The ceremony itself started around 1:45.  First a lady from USCIS talked about what not to do with our certificate and what to do once you become the citizen.  Then the judge came out, played the anthem and she talked about right and responsibilities we now have.  Then they called us one by one to come and get our certificates.  THere were 70 of us getting naturalized today.  We were finished around 2:30pm.

Couple of notes:  Parking is 20 dollars!  We parked in the garage next to the court.  The garage has 10 floors and we could not find a free parking spot until we reached the 8th floor.  I was worried we wouldn't be able to find one and that we'd be late.  So leave yourself extra time just in case.

No phones inside the courtroom but you can bring an ipad?! Weird!  Didn't know that, otherwise I would have brought it instead of our digital camera.  The flash was not on (because who uses a digital camera anymore?! Totally forgot how to use it!) so pictures didn't turn out.

If your ceremony is in the morning you can go to the passport office across the street and apply for passport right away so you don't have to mail your certificate with your application.  I don't know if you need to have pictures for it before or if you can get them there.  We were not able to go because they close before 2:30?

Anyway, it was a nice experience.  Especially that the judge played the anthem on her phone, performed by Whitney Houston!  My favorite rendition.  And hers!

No, the IO just told me that I'll be doing the oath at the court in downtown Detroit.  I'm not sure how name change works since I changed my name when I got married.  Is that done at the oath ceremony?

They just uploaded my oath ceremony letter.  My ceremony is on April 26 at 1pm.  I didn't expect it to be so soon!  I thought maybe sometime in May.

Congrats Bill and Katya!  It feels great to have it over with!

I still don't have my oath letter uploaded on the website.  I got an email yesterday that they scheduled my oath, today that the letter was sent but it's still not up on the website.  I'm expecting it to be posted tomorrow.

Katya had her interview today in Detroit.  We got there about 30 minutes early and she was called back about 10 minutes after her scheduled time.  The very nice IO in Detroit also requested me to join them, and she covered the pending I751 first with both of us verifying that form and we updated our tax documents.  That lasted about 10 minutes, then I was walked out and Katya continued with her N400 interview.  She told me that it went very well, she answered the six questions (first president, where is the Statue of Liberty, what does the Oath of Allegiance mean, who is the governor of Michigan, name the three rights enumerated in the DoI, and name two National Holidays) and passed the reading and writing test.  In the end, she was approved for naturalization with an oath to be scheduled later.  The N400 part of the interview lasted about 15-20 minutes.

    Good Luck to All!

I remember I had to wait about a week for my interview letter to show up on the case status update.  And my biometrics appt letter also took about a week to show up.  But the status changed automatically after I did my biometrics to say I did it and to wait for the interview letter, it's being scheduled.  Other than that, after the interview letter was uploaded, there were no status changes.

arya got a reaction from VanessaTony in From "document production" to "post decision activity"?
You EAD is valid until you get your green card. I think that once the dog goes from document production to post decision activity, it means they have sent your card. That's what happened to me with both EAD and green card and also a lot of other people. You should be getting your EAD in the next couple of days

The American Science Foundation recently enlisted the Hubble Space Telescope, the Stanford Electron Microscope, and the University of Alaska Geophysics supercomputer.
Even with these tools they have not been able to detect intelligent life at the Social Security Office.

You were supposed to make the cheque payable to US Department of Homeland Security, not USCIS. That's probably why it was returned. There is no need for two cheques to be sent. In the instructions it says you can send one cheque for 1010 dollars.

arya got a reaction from VanessaTony in Birth Certificate Question
I have the same type of birth certificate and when I was applying for my K1 visa I asked US consulate person if it needs to be translated, even though it has keys on the back and translations into english, and she said that yes, it needs to be translated. So I had it translated back in Canada and I sent that translation for my AOS. I have also heard people on this forum not send in translation and they got RFEs. If I was in your place, I would get it translated
