I think a lot of people can't accept the fact that a non-white, not-protestant/catholic won the election and is ruling the world. I mean come on from slavery to presidency, how do they do it?

    Indeed.
You'd think that there would be more pressing issues to deal with and more substantive criticisms of the Obama administration to bring to bear than this guff over birth certificates.
Goes to show where some people's priorities are.

If you lose your original birth certificate (which can happen if you move around a lot), they'll send you a "certification of live birth".
It's a non-issue dreamt up by conspiracy theorists who have nothing better to do with their time.

The Birthers never voted for him to begin with. So it's not buyers' remorse.
Do you really think it's about his birth certificate? I don't think so. They just can't accept his election.
Some people just refuse to get real.
There are a few out there who are convinced the South still has a chance in the Civil War.

Circling the wagons I see. No, modesty is not tied up in the degree to which a woman's body is encased in clothing and the entire premise that it might be does women everywhere a disservice and perpetuates the mythology that women who do not cover every hint that they are a woman are asking to be disrespected.
Cover as much of your body as you like and do so because you want to please your god if that is your predilection but the premise that the more of a woman's body is clothed the more modest she is and that is what pleases god is a damaging tenet and if that is central to the muslim belief system in this day and age, then that is something that should be challenged and frequently.

BP up 13 % just last 2 hours
If it goes down again I am in
off to look for a poyme to keep the owl on board coz she is getting her feathers ruffled
ok here it is: (VJ won't let me put pusssy)
The Owl and the pusssy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
'O lovely pusssy! O pusssy my love,
What a beautiful pusssy you are,
    You are,
    You are!
What a beautiful pusssy you are!'
    II
Pusssy said to the Owl, 'You elegant fowl!
    How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?'
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
    His nose,
    His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

Dude, I don't mind a smart talk, but this is everything but. Double standards? How did that kangaroo poop-filled fishbowl of a cranium come up with that? I have stated that I am against illegal immigration multiple times, but I am also against, yes, again, EXCESSIVE force. Ever crossed the border on multiple times? Didn't think so. My wife happens to think some of the CBP agents were just... bad, and she is an American friggin' citizen! Imagine what they can do to an illegal.
Anastasio Hernandez was shocked and beaten to death by 20 agents, 20 to 1... if you think that is justified, you are a sad, sad person.
The fact that Americans like to retire in some parts of Mexico only proves that it is not what you may think. Unless you have lived there, traveled there, and the list goes on and on, you are just ignorant, because you are judging based on what the media tells you. Unless you've been there STFU about propaganda because you eat what you're being fed with the biggest spoon available... Does ####### taste good mate?
As far as SB1070, it depends. There is a huge gap, similar to the one between your neurons, between arresting people and checking their immigration status based on an offense (DUI, robbery, etc.) and stopping Jose the plumber on his way to work because his skin is brown, regardless of the fact he was born there.

All this violence as the answer is so old fashioned
I remember when I was a kid that orchard owners used to put broken glass in the cement on the top of their walls. In order to save an apple being stolen they were prepared to cut some kids wrists or jugular.
That thinking has totally gone in Europe and is illegal - but it is still alive and well in the US where property and boundaries come first
It's a cultural difference that's all and will take a long time to change if it ever does.
    Longer than my remaining years.

Al qaeda said the US did 911 to themselves and now we say the Mexicans shot their own kid to make the US look bad
The Israelis say ...much the same
The Brits didn't bomb Dresden and kill a hundred thousand in one night - the Nazis did it themselves to make the Brits look bad
I wonder where Japan got the bomb that they dropped on Hiroshima ?
    etc etc
This stuff never changes and never will
Still it's worth bearing in mind as a tactic if the wife ever claims I slapped her - I just tell the court she is a self harmer

It started low level - they only called out certain tow companies to crashes. When the tow truck arrived they went round a corner and the officer got a cash payout. I said no to that.
I got my car caked in cac for not being supportive and for being a possible informer
Then when they got called to shop burglaries, they were pocketing stuff from the crime scene
It was widespread. Eventually, the whole shift went to jail, the whole force got shut down and another force took over. One of the officers kept being the foster parent to a string of 15 to 17 year old girls and he was getting a lot of extra money for it. Looking back I am pretty sure he was messing with em all.
I had already resigned but married the daughter of a sergeant in the new force and rejoined the new force which was 99% honest at least as far as money and property was concerned.
I am very pro Police but I demand full accountability and nobody gets a free pass to beat a kid up or mess with the girls or kill without reason.
Not holding Police to account is the quickest way to make it like that first force I served in. Intensive fair supervision is the only way to stop the rot setting in.

I was a Police Officer for 6 years and I once faced a mob of 300 in the dark on my own (with only a little stick for protection) so I know what being 'somewhat concerned' is like. Most Police Officers have a sense of balance and decency, but some abuse their position and we must always be on the look out for them. In the early days in an early posting, the whole of my shift except me, ended up in prison for theft. I know what bad Police Officers are like first hand. I saw what they did to my car with human poop coz I wouldnt join them in their activities.
What I can't abide is people tapping into their politics where the police are always right and the colored illegals are always wrong.
If that's a sanctimonious then I will own that.
This officer may be a fine officer who did the right thing, but deciding in advance of the investigation based on our politics, and denying ANY rights to the dead boy, is simply wrong.

Not a question of left or right - it's a question of decent and indecent and legal and illegal.
We don't know all the facts here so it's impossible to condone or condemn the officer.
What we can establish is that PEOPLE have rights whether they are legal or illegal.
If we don't go with that, then we end up separating PEOPLE into mensch or untermench
When I think about it, it's not the constitution or the law or religion, it's common decency, common humanity. I hope those terms are not exclusively either left wing or right wing.

As a legal alien who went through incredibly difficult problems to immigrate (as did we all), I am very anti illegal immigration.
However, when I become a citizen, I will be a decent law abiding citizen who does not agree with lynchings and extra-legal killings and I will insist on both American law enforcement and the Military, acting with human decency as well as legality
I understand that the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness as expressed in the declaration of independence was not repeated in the constitution, but I don't understand how that is being used against you or is in some way a weakness. If applying the constitution is seen as an inconvenience or a hindrance to brutalising brown skinned illegals, then that would be a great disappointment to the founding fathers.
Insisting that brown non citizens have no rights and can be treated in any way the officer feels like at the time, is about the most Un-American, unconstitutional thing that anyone can say, and if I said it in my citizenship interview, I would be denied.

    This is a common mis-perception
All humans have rights in the U.S.A and these are recognized by the 14th amendment. I was told that as an Alien, I had no right to own a firearm in Washington State but the NRA took it to court and the court said that an Alien like me has equal rights under the 14th - and so now I have 7 firearms.
For instance it would be illegal to kneel an illegal immigrant and shoot them in the back of the head - that is because they DO have rights and it isn't just police regulations.
I have noticed that the most nationalistic of Americans are also those who don't know their own constitution
If I was being pelted with big stones by a large crowd then I would feel justified in firing a warning round followed by an aimed round if necessary.
If some kid was throwing pebbles at me, I would not feel justified in firing
The investigation will have to determine which one of these was the case
In addition to this, I would have thought that common decency and the highly probable professed religion of people in this country would not lead to people saying that a fellow human had no rights and could be killed
No rights indeed - that phrase makes my blood boil !
Let's wait for the enquiry and some facts...

This is where things get muddy indeed. Your statement that women who wear fewer clothes are an easier target for abuse may be true (I don't know; I haven't seen statistics on that), but it's a statement very closely related to those that place blame and responsibility for violence against women on the women. Incredibly sticky territory. Your invocation of strippers and hookers as a counterpoint to nuns is pretty problematic in my opinion. It sounds like you're relating the intent of hookers (to have sex with strangers) with the rest of womankind who don't cover up. Yikes. My personal intent when I put on a hot dress is to feel beautiful.
You started out with the notion of pleasing God, which makes sense to me in the context of your own religious framework. I think the switch to intent in human society and the impact of dress on potential criminals is a dubious place for the argument to go. It's just a hop and a skip to dividing women between saints and whores based on how they express themselves by their dress. I don't think you intend to go there, but like I say, sticky.

twowls reacted to JimVaPhuong in k1 visa - admission to marijuana experimentation at medical
There are two way that an admission of drug use could become an inadmissibility. One - the applicant is determined to be a drug addict or abuser - INA 212(a)(1)(A)(iv). Two - the applicant is determined to have committed a crime of moral turpitude - INA 212(a)(2)(A)(i)(I).
There is no way they are going to determine the OP is a drug addict or abuser on the basis of an admission of a single instance of marijuana use more than 10 years ago.
As far as crime of moral turpitude, there is an important exception to INA 212(a)(2)(A) - the crime occurred before the applicant was 18 years old, and the crime was committed or the punishment for the crime ended more than 5 years before the visa application was submitted. This is probably why the doctor didn't pursue it when he discovered it had occurred more than 10 years prior.
This act does not constitute an inadmissibility.

The nature of the Bible and holy books in general is an important point. They are not collections of the literal writings of God.
The Bible is an artifact of man, revised and adapted at many points through history. Kind of like a sacred wiki-book with fancier fonts. Some Christians use some of its principles as guides for living. Its words don't define Christians, however. Attempts to make that correlation are flawed.
    Apply to Muslims, rinse, repeat.

I think Hamas will continue to have power as long as Isreal does not make concrete steps toward peace. Hamas is really powered by popular support, and they get a lot of support in Gaza as they are often seen as the only option to improving their own lives. Its doubtful that most of the people that support Hamas in Gaza really support all of its rhetoric. But desperate times call for desperate measures.
I think Fatah and Isreal should move forward on creating a two state solution regardless of the participation of Hamas. If they can create a path toward peace, Hamas over time will probably loose support as an alternative has been provided.

Ironically, the whole idea after World War II was to get the Jews as far away from Germany and Poland as possible. They all thought that once they are settled in Israel, the maxim out-of-sight, out-of-mind applies and everything would calm down.
As we all know by now, that turned out to be a huge misconception, as the creation of the State of Israel did not only cause problems with the inhabitants of that area, the Palistinians, who were forced to leave their homes and now are being a target for extinction, but basically all other nations in the Middle East as well, all of which would have long taken care of the problem themselves if it wasn't for the superpower USA.
The USA is Israel's only friend, and as long as it's Israel and the USA against the rest of the World, they can basically do as they please.
Most people believe that Helen Thomas spoke from her heart when she made those statements. Yet, she's old and smart enough to know that right or wrong means nothing if you are against the most powerful lobby in the World.
I only hope that one day there will be peace in the Middle East. Most likely it will not happen as long as Israel as an independent State as such exists. My prediction is that one day Israel will be forced to split in two nations, one for the Jews and one for the Palestinians. But since Israel, thanks to our taxpayers' money, is is the 3rd. most powerful military power on planet Earth, it's doubtful that any of us will be live to see it. It will take a very long time to happen, perhaps triggered by a final big standoff that will later be known as World War III.
