You are not the only one in the same situation. My husband, since he graduated, is also hunting for whatever job that doesn't want to be able! He is meanwhile doing sort of different small works (a friend from his church got for him some housekeeping job). We wake up everyday praying and thinking: "maybe today...". Trust you might find a job in the process. As it has been mentioned above that your tax report will show your situation.
I wish you the best
Congrats! You can also consider getting married and THEN applying. It seems like it would be a more cost effective solution sometimes. With one of the married visas the spouse can start working immediately. Which sounds like it helps eliminate financial stress in the first bit of marriage. I often wish we had gone that route since I have so many medical issues and the bills to go along with them.

Thanks, Jewel-8! I hope so too! NO one is in a hurry on the island and things that are out of the ordinary throw them into a tailspin. One time I had a lengthy argument with an insurance woman over there about our change of address to Glasgow. I told her it was 1/1 (for the apartment) and then the street number. She told me that couldn't possibly be correct. For goodness sake, I was living at that address! Anyway, thanks for the encouragement.
Wow! I hope they have that in the post for you soon. This process is bad enough without an extra government causing delays! lol
Dave purchased his train tickets and booked a hotel room for his interview. Almost three weeks in advance.
I am so happy that it has been taken care of and he won't be suffering on the sleeper train again.

I put a harsh comment on my Facebook about it.. "Maybe we should boycott British Airways so that the 92.5 percent of their union that had voted to strike over the holidays can continue to be hit by layoffs. They should feel lucky to even have jobs at all. Half of the people on my friends list, as well as myself, could be laid off any time now. SCR** greedy unionized b*(@&%@*." - edited only slightly
My sister who was VP of the local CWA union will have something to say about it for sure. My view is that if that job was so horrible than why do all of my friends that have done it loved it? I am all about unions for people that work dangerous jobs such as as the railroad, on high rises, and especially at the oil refineries. Asking people if they would like peanuts does not seem like a very dangerous job to me. Especially with all the security we have now. If there was no security and hijacking still happened then I would understand.
I hope the other companies see the potential in this strike and begin offering more flights. It sounds like BA crew will be more likely to be laid off now that noone can trust them to show up for their jobs. Letting people down over the holidays will not go well.

Hey I see you got your interview Jan 4th! Congrats! We got Jan 25th. We have flights booked and are scoping out places to stay in London walking distance to the embassy. My only priorities are clean and safe as I read some trip advisor reviews about bedbugs!
Yep, my Dave is probably taking the sleeper train down again. Are you meeting your David in London for the interview? If so I am slightly jealous! It can't be much longer!! Now it's only 20 more days for us.
Also, in about 2 days and a few hours the Lioncub4 couple will let us know how it went for him. YAY! I can't wait!

Hello there. My Glaswegian husband and I met on line in July of 2004 on a site called Just Chat UK, and married in June of 2006. I was only looking for a penpal at first believe it or not! Lived with him on the Isle of Man for a couple of years and then in Glasgow until last year. It was a wonderful experience and I made some fantastic friends. There are many things I miss about it, except for the weather and how long things can take to get done. Guess I'm just another impatient American, lol. Anyway, we are just about ready to send in the DS230 but waiting on more documents from the Isle of Man. Good luck to everyone else in the group!
Hey Mintchip! I hope you get the Isle of Man docs soon. That has to be one of the hardest parts of the process.. the paperwork hurdles!!

I'm getting so nervous! The train tickets are booked, he'll have to be on the train at 4:50 AM (8:50 PM the day before, my time) and then he's off! I'm also waiting to hear whether I got a promotion at work today, which would really change everything, as my days would be different, and the second job that I just got wouldn't be able to work around the new schedule, if I get it... All this stuff is up in the air. If I do get the promotion, I would be moving desks and jobs the Day Before the Interview!!! I hate not knowing so much in such a short space of time! If I don't get it, its allright, but I would be working 7 days a week with the two jobs (more money, much less time to spend together when he gets here) and if I do get the promotion, then no second job, but only working 5 days a week (more time, not as much extra money)... either way its good, kinda... I just don't know!! Riggs says "Now you know how I feel"... This sucks!
I am so excited for you!! I will be waking up on Thursday hoping for updates from you and Lioncub4!!!
Dave is now 21 days from his interview and I am being very impatient.

Hello!
My fiancé and I hit the topic of acquiring citizenship of one another's home country. Does my fiancé have to have citizenship here? Can we travel back and forth between the US and England without either of us having citizenship of the others country? Is there a minimum/maximum that a person can live in his/her spouse's home country without obtaining citizenship? My fiancé's interview date is coming in early January so these sorts of questions are arising.
Also, I had a question about getting a stamp from New York airport that allows my fiance to work? Does he have to fly into New York to get this? How can he start work once he arrives in the US?
These may be ludicrous questions but we are curious for answers! Anything would be helpful! Thank you!
The stamp has become obsolete. File for AOS, EAD, and AP as soon as possible after marrying.
The UKC will be issued a greencard and must not be out of the country for a specific length of time or they will lose Permanent Resident status. Sorry I can't help more! We haven't gotten to that stage of the game yet and my fiance has somehow succeeded in convincing me to stop asking the What If questions. Damn.

My husband is Scottish and we met online in 2007, in person in 2008 and married 5 months ago in Skye. We have our interview set in London for Jan 25th and with any luck will be living together by Valentine's day. It has been difficult but I think it has made us stronger and closer because we handled the entire process together. What parts of the country will you be living in after you get your visas? He is moving from Livingston (nearest big city is Edinburgh i think) to north of Boston, MA in the US.
We will be living in Salt Lake City at least until I finish my education. He has 'loads' of friends in Boston and I have always had a lot going on in Southern California. We cannot rule out the possibility of moving to either of those places in the next few years. What a small world it is anyways

I'm looking to meet some of the other people here who have Scottish Fiances or Scots with American fiances! Let's get to know each other! Tell us about you!
Rob and I met online playing WoW. He came here for 3 weeks in October-November 2008 and I went there in July of 2009. We're about to file the I-29F. It would have been filed already, but somehow his photos didn't make it here, so he is sending them again.
How about you guys/gals?
I'm another one that fell in love (even though I tried not to!) with a gorgeous Scot. We met because of mutual friends on Facebook and decided to go on a roadtrip as friends. That quickly led us *HERE* to VJ. He lives in Edinburgh, although he was born and went to university in Glasgow.
Regarding the medical - the sleeper trains have been Dave's method of getting to London. Take a blanket and keep warm if you decide that's how you're getting down there. He ended up not getting any sleep that night because he was emailing me the whole time telling me how frozen he was. This coming from a man that rarely complains!!
Good luck to the recent NOA1 recipients. Ian and Bren - I hope you pm me after the interview. I am super excited for you two!!!
CORRECTION: I am super excited for you three!!! lol He is getting cuter and cuter. I love that dark hair.

Ohh and one more thing, I know Wade will be lurking around the thread here sooner or later; so HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABE! So sorry we can't spend it together, but we will from now on - no more holidays or even regular days apart, I say!
...and no business trips for the first year of marriage. That is something I wish I could demand of mine anyways!!
Hear, hear! I say you put it in the vows!
Or the prenup.

On November 25th John was approved, pending his original BC and PC.. he sent those to the Embassy courier 2 days later. On Friday 12-4, John received the visa and mysterious brown packet. He booked his Flight and is due to Arrive Tuesday 12-15-09. POE is Newark NJ and he has a 2.5 hour layover to allow for customs and whatnot. After his arrival (1 week later) we will do the Social Security card, finalize the wedding plans and around 1-5-10 go get the marriage license. We are getting married on 1-23-2010.
Wendy, Is your sister still as sick as you thought or has she begun to improve? I hope things go well and the pancreatic cancer that you moved the interview up for will not take her before she gets to see you walk down the aisle. I also hope the doctors are helping manage her pain.. I had a hard time seeing my father die of that disease. The pain is really something else.
I'm sending lots of love!

hi everyone, I have a quick Question about NVC now. So i got my approval on 23 Nov but until now, NVC claims that they havent receive the case n not in the system yet. They say sometimes it may take up to 30 days for the case to be in the system. is that true? I am worry that we might be in AP then, but then NVC said that we are not in the AP, just NVC stage can take long time as well.
So, wat am i supposed to do now? contact congressman again?
Please advise... argggg.... so took around 5 months to wait for NOA2, now NVC again...... I am really not happyyyy..
please help.
thanks a lot!
Season
Wow, I wonder if they lost the paperfile. Kind of strange! I bet you would need to wait 30 days to get congressman to do something. Hopefully it will get cleared up before then. Good luck season!!

I keep teasing him that once he has the visa in hand, he will have a ####### day at work and then call me and say he is coming tomorrow haha.
I am hoping for that too!!! This 'need a month to give notices' is #######. He is so stubborn that I don't think I can change his mind.
I do believe I have met my match.

A question about Moroccan culture and law.... Let's say a person pulls a scam like this and there is email and chat proof. Can a police report be filed and will the person be jailed for this type of crime?
Not saying that this is a scam.. just that we've arrived somewhere with this thread and my claws are still out for any woman that has had to go through any 'other woman' type issue. I have my own stories to tell that help me relate to the OP quite well.

Fiance passed his medical.. Now just waiting for the interview
Woohoo! Congrats. It won't be long now!!
-
I saw an OTC paternity test at CVS the other day.
Anyhoo...
I believe they are used to take samples and then be mailed off to a lab. I'm not 100% sure, but I know that is how a lot of at-home kit are.
-
Ok I feel really bad that I implied that he could be scamming her. I apologize if I offended anybody. I worked doing fraud investigation for years and I am very cynical at times. The words money and passport made my claws come out because I instantly felt something wasn't right.
If Original Poster is upset at me, she can feel free to cuss me out in private message. This is definitely not a forum to judge, and I hope I didn't make her feel bad. I lack the ability to filter. Sorry.
-
I don't know you. I don't know your fiance. From an outsider's point of view, please do not send him any money. There is always the possibility that he could be scamming you. Even if he's not you need to let him have time to man up, grow some (if needed), and take care of things on his own.
You are not the only person to be put in this situation. I hope you begin to feel better soon. I understand how this can be so heartbreaking. I am sending you some love and hope you have sunny days soon!
-
No appointment date for us in the mail today.
I did hope.
I actually think that our package was received by the embassy on the 16th November, so maybe we can hope for something soon.
All of us that found out our interview dates yesterday only know because we called DOS. I imagine the letters to the British fiance(e)s won't be there for a few more days.
