  1. Our plans changed and I was glad we didn't have elaborate wedding plans anytime soon. I had a string of really bad luck last Thursday when my truck was sandwiched in a freeway crash and then the other car refused to run until I put a new battery in it. Then the next day I found out the plumbing in my condo is going to need a LOT of work and the HOA is assessing $500 each condo. That's life for you though!!!!!!!!

We got our wedding license on Friday, then married Monday March 1st wearing tshirts and jeans while drinking wine in a friends kitchen. As we had no vows we plan on saying them on our Australian vacation at the end of 2011... yay for getting the beach wedding I always wanted!!!!!!

Then a reception here after, which works because Salt Lake City is beautiful in the winter. How weird is it that we signed all the papers but have no money to celebrate for over a year? LMAO.. this immigration thing is so weird. I'm just ecstatic that we're finally together!!!!! YAY!!!!!!

  2. Hi everyone! I have been here in the US for 2 weeks under k1 visa and i want to get my social security number but i dont know the requirements needed and where to go. We are getting married on May 1st, do i have to get the ssn after our wedding or can i get it now? Can somebody help us? thank you so much.

We walked in 10 days after he got here. The application for a new card was sitting on the counter, but we couldn't find a pen. When we got to the counter and explained to situation the man apologized for not having pens, but said it was unnecessary to for us to even fill out the app because we had the K1.

He entered the information from the K1 and I94 in the passport. He asked for the names of my husbands parents. He couldn't understand my husband's accent, so I had to tell him my mother-in-law's first and maiden name.

    Hope that helps!!!

  3. YAY! It's finally happening!! My fiance is getting here this weekend. We haven't seen each other since I went to see him for his birthday in August.

I was originally planning to go to Vegas for a bachelorette party/sisters birthday. He booked a ticket to fly down there to surprise me. I've gotten too stressed and sick to make it, so he is going to rent a car and drive 5-6 hours to SLC instead. I am a lucky girl to have someone so amazing that he is willing to do that for me. I'm starting to feel so much better already, but going to Vegas wouldn't help my stress levels right now.

  4. Well guys.. The end of our Fiance petition journey is at an end tomorrow.. I will pick up my fiance tomorrow night at 11 pm central time!! I can not believe its finally here.. 2 years and 8 months ago I met him and now we will finally finallyyyy be together!! Im sooo excited :D:D:D:D:D

YAY! Thirty more minutes! Dave bought his plane ticket. Only 4 more weeks. I'm not sure what to do with myself. It's very stressful right now because I can't seem to do a single thing except clean the house. Blah to cleaning.

  5. Hey

I am wondering in anyone can answer a question i have. I have my interview 2 weeks today and i was sorting out my paperwork. I was reading the letter my fiances company gave about his pay.

The dilemma i have is my fiance is in the airforce and gets a base pay per month, a housing allowance per month and an allowance for substance per month. We have completed the I-134 to reflect all of this into his annual income but the tax forms only show his base pay. As the housing allowance and substance allowance adds $14,770 onto his yearly annual income i am wondering if we should be putting just his base pay on the I-134 or all of what he earns (even if the added $14,770 doesnt show on his tax form)

Argh, i am so confused! Do you think i should get my fiance to complete another I-134 with just his base pay and also take the other I-134 with his base pay, housing allowance and substance allowance and explain this to the officer in charge at the Embassy?

We are above the poverty line on both pay packets, i just dont want anything to jeapordise us getting the visa.

    Thanks

Just print out a paycheck stub. It will all be alright! Dave went to the window and all they asked him for was the I134. The woman that took it was in the middle of arguing with her coworker. They didnt even ask him for pictures or any other documents, like the tax transcripts. I was freaking out for a couple of daying thinking that might put us into AP, but he got his passport delivered 4 days later.

  6. Not usually a pathetic softy and I doubt I'll cry if I get welcomed to America by the CO, but I just choked up at the 'welcome home' by the customs official. I honestly think I'd have burst into tears at that! lol...

I told Dave that if he didn't meet me in the 'car park' that I would probably end up making a huge emotional scene. God I hope his POE isn't my city. I will be standing there harassing the first customs official or TSA agent I come into contact with.... 'Yeah, so he's tall.. dark hair, dark eyes... can you just check for me again?'

  7. Well... NotworkSte has now been reunited with his family!

    ....

It's done! I am now a permanent resident! I didn't think it was appropriate to hug the first person I saw though!

Funny thing going through customs after. Fellow looks at my customs forms, sees my 3 big bags and asks if I am studying. I says no, I'm emigrating here today and he laughs and changes my country of residence from UK to USA and smile and says "Well boy, you live here now, welcome home"

Aww! Im so happy for you!!!

  8. I've been asked about this, so here, at last, is my interview review. I didn't know where to post it (I added it on my timeline details though) so I hope it's okay here (sorry it's so long!) :

Thank you for posting Frosty!! I had been very worried that the interview would be stressful for you. I'm glad everything went smoothly!

Congrats on the visa, can't wait to hear about your travels to the US!

  9. I'll be the first groom to post in here :P

I know that Bethany is stressed about having to deal with a bunch of planning and organising without me over there to help her which is pretty frustrating for me. But then, what do I know about colours, flower arrangements and all that anyway? I can help with the cake - I'll eat all the samples they give me!

That is wonderful! You truly are more involved then most men. ;) I've decided to let Dave pick one or two aspects that he likes and go from there. He told me that he could go Martha Stewart and make the centerpieces out of our beer cans. Maybe I will direct him attention to finding a good deal on the flowers. ;)

  10. I thought it would be fun and helpful to get ideas from each other about how we're going about planning an event that is rather complicated due to the uncertain timing and distance!

Knowing that we'll be getting married in less than a year, I've started gathering ideas about the kind of ceremony we could have. I know what kind of dress I'm looking for, although WILL be losing about 4 stone before heading out there, so can't even begin looking yet! lol...

I need that special someone to agree to a wedding date. Difficult to do! He says we will plan when he gets here in Feb. As of right now I have two spreadsheets on Google Docs that I wish he would help with. One is the wedding budget with a column for priorities and the other a guestlist with different sheets for us to add people to based on if we will invite them to our UK bash next year or our US reception this year.

I am liking the idea of a civil ceremony and a party a couple of months later because I was raised religious and don't want to live together before marriage.

Since I do not have a date I have been printing off ads and websites and putting them in a binder. There are 2 wedding venues I like. One is an indoor pavillion in a park that has a fireplace, kitchen area, tables and chairs for about $400 for the afternoon. The other is a community arts center in the next city. That goes for $110 an hour since I am not a resident of that city. Both would be perfect as I want to have more control over my wedding and keep the entire budget under $2k.

My dress has been in the closet since about 6 weeks after he proposed. It is a Maggie Sottero I bought off of alocal online classified site like craigslist. I got it for an insane price. I love that I bought it used and don't feel bad because I know I won't use more than once.

The dress has beading that is slightly lavender and is a unique one strap cut. I was originally going to go very modest, but when I saw this online I decided to go meet the seller and try it on. First one I looked at and I bought it on the spot. My sister said that if I dont get my weight back down and need to buy another dress she would GLADLY take this one.

What is everyone thinking about for invitations?? I haven't found anything I really love yet. Also, are you planning to serve any foods that are traditionally UK? I have been joking around with Dave that we should serve Irn Bru. :D

  11. I have a question. The checklist says not to send any of the documents she needs to collect to the consulate. The Ds 156k says to attach birth certificate, divorce, death, financial support, etc. does all of this go to the consulate attached to the Ds156k or are they taken to the interview?

Hand them the birth cert and everything else in person. Just send back the checklist and DS forms.

  12. Awesome. Thanks. I was worried about all the increased security. But your right, as long as you cancel the return flight, should be good.

Some people have been finding cheap one way with Iceland Air. The times didn't match for Dave to come in on an Iceland Air flight and then catch a JetBlue, and he didn't want to hang out on the east coast. Still, for some it might save a couple hundred dollars in comparison to a round trip ticket.

  13. I did give her the LND number and she asked the name of the beneficiary, then she said it's either not been received or not put in their system yet. I called NVC again thinking maybe I wrote down the wrong LND # but I didn't and I did verify that it left the NVC on 12/29 so I don't know. Right now I guess I'm just going to chalk it up to the New Year holiday. Just makes you wonder ya know...why some people get their packet 3 in 2 days while other people aren't even showing on the system after a wk. I LOVE having my life in other peoples hands :)

London took 15 days from when NVC mailed to enter ours into the system. Feel free to check my timeline. With the holidays you might have extra delays. Hang in there sweetie!!! Just several more weeks! And send in DS paperwork as soon as they tell you P3 has been mailed. It caused us more than an extra month because Dave waited until he received P3 in the mail.

  14. soooooo.... i got my visa in hand today!!!! :-)))))))))))

now i have 3 months to work before i go out there.. annoying but I have a wedding to pay for and Sarah has expensive taste :-)

Yay! Dave's mom received ours earlier today too. Now I have no government agencies to harass.

I don't know what airport he lives by in the UK, but I would try and see if icelandair will work for you. I just traveled with them and we saved hundreds of dollars using them :D I've never used them before but was refered to them by another VJ member and were very happy with the airline company. I have no clue what airport he needs to arrive at, but they offer quite a few at their webpage. I got a one way trip - Norway-Seattle - for 276 GBP ($443) Don't know if it'll work for you guys, but it's worth checking out! Think they're offering departures from London, Glasgow, Manchester.

I like that airline. How awesome!!

  15. I seem to have graduated since we are done with the interview. Can anyone direct me to the 'Waiting for London to send the freaking visa already' thread? Or perhaps the 'convince the foreign fiance to hurry up' thread? LOL!

On a better note.. anyone heard from Justine, or any of the others that I assume should be hearing about interviews? I am so anxious for everyone else to get through the process too!!

  16. So nice to see more dates coming in!

Obviously a slow day at work today  Thought I'd help keep the list updated :)

    Awesome!! I love it!!

Sure hope he can still make it, might just have to drive instead and be out the 70 pound train fare. Sorry, just needed to vent to people who understand the predicament!

It will all work out well. :D Dave was also in trouble because of the virgin trains. 2 a.m. on Tuesday he finally made it to glasgow and caught a bus to Edinburgh. (I'm sure he calls trains, buses and everything else by the proper UK name, but I made him translate it to American so I would understand.)

I know it doesnt help much because you will continue to worry about the train situation no matter what anyone says, but at least we all understand. :luv:
