  1. The biometrics letter comes after up to 30 days of NOA1. And as far as I see the most common period is 2 weeks later. I didn't get mine until the last day of the 30 day period, and only because we called and told them that they are running behind schedule. Funny thing is that they told us that they are backed up and there are too many people in this area, but when we went to do biometrics (walked in on the 3rd instead of 25-ish as scheduled) the center was empty.

So relax and wait. Even with a late biometrics letter it still took us less than 3 months to get an approval.

I called today because we have been waiting awhile to. The customer service rep kept saying that the timeframe was 30 days from receipt.. then he started to tell me NOA1 was the receipt date even though the I797 says received 11/12. I finally got a supervisor and she agreed that we are 2 days from the 30 days. We will call first thing Monday morning if it doesn't arrive by then.

  2. I got my RFE after I got the notice for biometrics. I knew we would get an RFE though. coz we didnt send everything they asked with regards the tax stuff. but tht was fine by me, since I already had my EAD. I was fine with my AOS taking longer coz all that mattered to me was that I could work.

One of the January or Feb filers said that an IO told her that people who live in California rarely gets transferred to CSC for reasons unknown. But usually when your case gets transferred to CSC, there's a good chance you wont get an RFE and an interview.

What did you send in for tax information? Marie( M and F) hasn't filed her 2009 yet and so she didn't send them. Is that a reason you got the RFE?

did you get your NOAs in the mail yet? if you did, your biometrics notice should come a weeek or two after that. I mailed mine on the Mar 5, for NOAs in the mail on Mar 15 and biometrics letter 3 days after.

Yes, we received the NOAs in the mail on the 29th. No sign of biometrics and after today it will have been 12 business days since our NOA date. It has been a full four weeks today since our package arrived at Chicago lockbox.

  3. We haven't received a biometrics notice yet. I made my husband call USCIS and I ended up getting on the phone and yelling at the first rep because he thought it was 30 days from the NOA date that those were due. Everyone else seems to have theirs already. My husband finally talked to a supervisor and they said our 30 days were up on Sunday and to call back on Monday.

Then my husband and I had a nice argument about my being impatient and spending too much time on VJ trying to figure out the norm timeframes. Yeah right!! Anyways, he doesn't know I'm right yet but our AOS process seems to be full of delays. I think USCIS needs to little kick in the a$$ to get moving. Hopefully the letter about biometrics comes on Friday or Saturday, otherwise Monday is going to involve a SR or a infopass appointment.

  4. We sent AOS March 19 and there has been NO update since, nothing. And it's like 20 days have passed =/ I also was not able to include that form G-1145...It's causing me to worry now what could have happened, I hope this week we will receive a hard copy of at least sayin they receive our application =/ Until then, there is no way to check my application, right?

We mailed our March 10, it arrived March 12. It took until March 25 for the check to be cashed and we got the papers in the mail March 29. So 19 days total for us to receive confirmation.

You can call the USCIS and have them check if you are in the system. When we called on the 20th it had been 10 days since we mailed and they transferred us to an "officer" which I assume was a USCIS employee instead of the contracted first line customer service.

  5. Hello

    Remember us?

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing

Since winter here in Alaska is almost over Tamara will get to see some wildlife now

Have you filed AOS yet? Right now we are waiting and waiting some more. Dave thinks he likes DIY projects. He has never owned his own place so he has taken over my little condo and gotten the Home Depot bug. ARGH!!! One month of being married now. We'll see how month 2 goes. ;)

Some of the July haven't had the POE yet, which SUCKS.. Sounds like a few more of us July filers are getting married in the next month though. ;)

  6. Okay, I love you Gary and all the witty posts you have put on VJ since I joined...but I want to point out that Oriental as used to describe individuals is as outdated as "negro" or "colored." In appropriate context it is used to describe objects and locations, and not as a substitute for "Asians." However, you did qualify its use in the OP's frame of reference as 'not acceptable.'

Ok, I didn't know that. I've used that term a lot and thought it was respectful. WOW! VJ is a place to learn.

Gary did get the point across though. British can have a reputation, but not good to say it to someone in a professional capacity.

  7. Hi, i Filed my AOS and EAD on March 10 too and i got NOA hardcopy March 22.

I hope you get you NOA soon..

    Good Luck!

We might have a problem because I wrote the check for $1010, then I wrote One thousand dollars... I then realized I left out the word ten and wrote it sideways in there. They might be rejecting the package because of that. :( I've been reading some threads that show how brutal USCIS can be about wording on checks.

Maybe I can argue with them if they make us resubmit and it causes any delays. ;)

  8. Hi Everyone!

We just received notifications for three applications by e-mails and texts. Good luck to you all!

We haven't gotten notification or our check cashed. We called USCIS this morning, were escalated to an officer and they had no record of it. I hope we hear something by Monday, otherwise we might go down to the local office and ask them to investigate. USCIS can be so unpredictable. :(

  9. This was not supposed to be a political discussion. Do you really believe what you just said though? It's bad enough we pay taxes on sanitary protection.

I agree. I hope there is no more medical system debate in the thread.

I am happy we have a resource to help each other with this important topic. I am loving that people can help explain the way they switched after moving.

Also, I just wanted to point that out another bit of price info as I know how hard the move is and how many unexpected things can come up. We have two Planned Parenthood clinics in my city. One charges regular fees, the other is based on sliding scale. I used the sliding scale clinic while I was in school and it was a life saver. Those yearly check ups are VERY important! If you are in a financial bind they can usually work with you or recommend another resource.

    Good luck!

  10. I'm on Nuvaring. It's the ring you wear for 3-4 weeks and then take out for a week. It seems to not be available in the UK. I love it because pills make me nauseous.

When considering moving over there it was a big con that they don't have that option. Hope you find something that works for you soon! I definitely recommend Planned Parenthood. Also, if your spouse is a student you may be able to visit a university clinic for a lower price as well.

  11. Hey guys! I just read the part about SSN...

My husband (the US citizen) does have a SSN since he works, but I don't. So we filed without one for me. I know it's ok to do so, but I was wondering: should we apply for a SSN now, while our application for AOS is pending (sent it last monday)?

Or should we wait for the work permit to be accepted?

Thanks a lot for your answers!

And good luck to us all! :)

K-1 visa holders are eligible for a social security card. I'm not sure about the student visa. It may be easier just to wait until you have the EAD or Greencard in hand.

  12. So to those who are contemplating whether to get a lawyer or not, just weigh in your situation. If you can afford it and if it helps your scheduling (and paranoia), look for a good one who gives a reasonable price; but if you have all the time in the world to look up everything you need, and if you're pretty ####### about forms and stuff, then a lawyer won't be necessary.

I agree completely. There is no sense in us hiring a lawyer as I would be all over him/her every day and making them explain every little entry on each form. I fit the definion perfectly. ;) If it gives you piece of mind then it's worth having a lawyer.

  13. Thanks a lot for all the good tips, guys! Either way even if I stay overnight at the airport it's not like I haven't done it before, last year to Brasil going on these free milleage tickets I flew all over the place for about 2 days before getting to Brasil. I know I can survive, was just trying to make it the least painful possible!

I flew from Edinburgh to London on BMI, then I had a flight 5 hours later in a different Terminal. British Airways didnt let me check my bags until about 3 hours before my flight. It was a pain!!! Thought I would warn you as I did not expect to have to sit outside the terminal waiting with some HUGE luggage that wouldn't pass security.

  14. I got my SS card because of work, but as I remember they can give your number right away (in my case they printed out a form/receipt or whatever) - then you can just wait for the card in the mail. And yes, it usually arrives 2-4weeks. Hope this helps.

Ohh good :) You have the medical and the social security number handled!! We stayed up late one night getting the applications taken care of. I freaked out when I couldn't find my 2009 W2, but it was hiding in our closet. Here's praying for no RFEs for any of us!!!

  15. I'm so glad that the paperwork is moving for so many of you. :D Our package was delivered at 6:36 this morning. So happy!!!!!!

Dave's Social Security card arrived yesterday. It took 13 days from applying and 3 weeks from POE if anyone was wondering.

We have had no success with opening a bank account online because he does not have a US driver's license or Central American mandate(?). We will have to open our much needed joint account at a branch tomorrow.

Getting a driver's license is going to be a problem in Utah January 1st they passed a law saying everyone had to appear in person and bring proof of citizenship. For non-citizen, they have to prove a lot of things AND they get a limited term license that has a status printed on that it not an acceptable form of ID. So it sounds like we have to wait for the EAD or the greencard and get a driver's license that is only valid for 2 years. Luckily his foreign driver's license will work just fine for now!

Paperwork, legal hassles, adjusting to Utah: Expensive.

    Finally being together: Priceless.

These past three weeks have been the best of my life. YAY for the amazing honeymoon period!!

  16. The long wait will be worh it when your SO is with you.... and you are not the only one who is still waiting. I am too, but my fiance did have his interview already.

This waiting really sucks -- excuse my language

Congrats to both of you. I am still watching this board and cheering you both on. The wait is worth it. It will be over for both of you SOON! Keep us updated!!!!

Right now Dave is finally 'home'. Probably playing Xbox as I type this. Can't wait until the man has a job. ;)

  17. Did everyone else already have their social security number when they filed the AOS? We went ahead and wrote "Applied For" in that box. I plan to make a photocopy of the card and mail it with the AOS information off the NOA1 so they can add it to our file.

He got here less than 3 weeks ago. We applied on the 8th day he was here (2/26) and now it has been 12 days waiting for it. I guess social security cards normally take 2-4 weeks to arrive in the mail. I'm unsure.

What has been your experience with getting the social security card/number? Did anyone else also file AOS without it?

  18. Our AOS packet was delivered this morning!

A quick survey....how many of you submitted the vaccination supplement with your AOS? We did not for me, since all my shots were complete, and the rules say if they are complete, you don't need to. Guess we shall see if USCIS can read their own rules, or they RFE us!

Dave needed two shots. We got those and then had the civil surgeon fill out the form for $25. The way I read it they did need the I693 for everyone. Then again, I could have just been reading the paperwork to see how it applied to me and a close friend I have made on VJ that has a totally unimmunized(is that a word?) husband.

I didn't send AP yet. We should since his gran is 83 and he might need to get back there before the green card arrives. It was simply too confusing and the day had been a long one. Trust me when I say we had valid reasons to be lazy. I just hope that the paperwork we DID send will get processed quickly.
