after many many delays, potentially disastrous health issues and truck rental issues i have FINALLY moved.
i think i am the first who crossed through Sault Ste Marie. so i suppose i should tell everyone how it went.
we got to the border at about noon on a Saturday, the Sault border is pretty busy but not compared to Detroit or buffalo. the merged bridge traffic must divide into lanes, if you're in a u-haul ( like us) you must take the most right lane. The guy in the booth took our IDs and told us to park the truck just over to the side so that it was out of the way. They didn't really seem to have any procedure for this kind of thing; even regular traveling people who are pulled over to go into secondary usually get a guard escort to the building, we did not. We went in, everyone was so nice, they thanked us for doing things legally and asked if we were excited. the man in the booth came up through another entrance and gave the guy at the desk out IDs.
The guy at the window sighed a little annoyed like then got out this HUGE manual. Another border guard just sitting there at another window asked us how long everything took, how long our interview was. The whole process was pretty uneventful, the guy at the window processing us explained that they get maybe 1 person a month come through on a visa so he was taking his time making sure he didn't screw anything up for us and i was glad for that.
The whole thing took an hour. He gave me back my passport with my visa stamped and a white card with my i-94 thinger stapled to it and sent us on our way. no one even asked to look in the truck.
i was so effin nervous for nothing lol now i have to remind myself every now and then that i'm not just there for a visit and i never have to count down the days for another visit YAY!
thank you to everyone i ever bothered with crazy questions. ( though i'll have more when i adjust lol )
Did u also drive to California? How many days did it take?how was the road conditions?
I'm getting ready for my trip soon...

I was wondering If we can contribute to the IRA as soon as we move to the USA as a permanent resident?
If we can ,how do they determine how much we can contribute since they wouldn't know anything about our work history etc..
Thnx
-
Ah! Yes, Milner Chapel is just off of Glover Road, right behind the Esso, right?
Yeah, I'm looking VERY forward to the drive. I'm aiming to make it in three long days.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who has done that particular drive! A lot of people (though not VJers!) think I'm nuts to be driving there.
well in Apr,we will also be driving to LA from TO.So pls let me know how u did

My husband and I own a home in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We have sold it and the deal closes on March 25, 2010. We have purchased a new home in Niagara Falls, NY and the deal also closes on March 25th. We are just finding out that it may take up to 48 hours to transfer the proceeds from the sale of our Canadian home to our US bank account. Does anyone know how we can transfer $125,000 USD from Canada to the US instantly, so our house deal will close on time?
Thanks.
I can offer two options which I tried in the past and both of them are instant transfers.
1.wire transfer via ur cdn bank or custom house
2.Money gram via canadian post office (no waiting time at all)
good luck

POST INTERVIEW, PRE-POE -
There are two ways to 'get to the documents' without having a problem:
1. go back to the Embassy, have a ConOff open it. or
2. at the POE, ask for a senior staff member to open the sealed envelope, retrieve your documents.
Good Luck !
but I thought they are not supposed to open the sealed env. at POE either.
-
If you don't have them yet, you probably are not getting them back.
What originals did not get returned - the marriage certificate and the beneficiaries birth certificate?
Did you send photocopies as well as originals to NVC?
I only care about the original birth cert. and yes I 've submitted the original as well as the copy version....
thnx for the reply...
-
I'm missing a few original doc.s that I had submitted during the NVC/Montreal stage.I already had the interview ,but they did not return any of the original doc.s .
I got the visa package as well. They are not there either.
Would it be possible that they put them in the sealed envelope that I'm supposed to submit at POE?
Or did they forget returning them at the interview??
Thnx

OOPs oh Ya!!
Does that model Mazda even come with a trailer hitch?
If not it may not be designed for towing anything.
no it doesn't come with a trailer hitch.we were planning to get installed one once we decide that would be safe to do it.
-
I don't think redblue is towing the car, just saying that her car is small.
Do you mean the Uhaul trailers redblue? I've never used one but you are right about pulling anything being somewhat hard on your transmission.
yes ,I'm refering to the Uhaul trailers..that's how I'm going to move my personal belongings hopefully...I was wondering if anybody had any problem with their car after pulling the Uhaul trailer
sorry I missed you in Montreal!!! Apparently all went well...Congratulationsoh sorry.I got to the consulate around 11:00am since I was very sick...I'm glad u got the visa too....
-
I have a Mazda Protege and need to decide what size of UPS trailer I can rent for the big move.Since it's a compact car ,my hubby wants to rent the smallest trailer, but I really don't see any point renting that small trailer.I've heard that if u use the bigger ones ,it might damage your transmission.
Can u pls share your experience so I can decide what size of trailer would be the best?Did u have any problem with ur car afterwards?
Thnx in advance.

We had thought about flying back to thailand for her birth but I'm not sure of how late into her pregnancy she can fly internationally (even with a doctors approval). I've been reading that 32-36 weeks is the lastest that airlines will allow her to fly...and that's even with a doctors approval. Anyone know for sure?
first of all ,a big congr! and I'm sorry about ur situation. I can imagine it must be hard.
I'm also currently pregnant and still in Canada ,but I might need to move to US while pregnant.(I do have the insurance already ..so hopefully we will be covered)
To be honest ,I like the Thailand idea and I suggest you to travel during the second trimester( week 13 -week 27) instead of the third trimester( week 28-week 40)
I've been searhing on the internet and most doc. do recommend flying during the second tri. as well....
If u decide to deliver it in US,good luck
-
I was wondering if you go tru xray scanning at the montreal consulate or do I just scan your stuff tru xray...Me being preggo wondering about this and there is now ay I would go tru...
I do have a doc. letter but still wondering if it would be a problem..

-
So I'm getting ready for the big day and I was wondering if there is any link for Montreal interview preperation guide or something that I can read on VJ...

As per the subject,I need to make sure what currency www.priceline.com charge foor bookings? The price I see,is it in USD or CDN?...and depending on that I need to decide whether or not I should use US credit card or CDN credit card.

I just discovered this thread and I see u guys already have 357 pages...it's amazing...
I'm currently 9 weeks 4dys preggo and will be getting my visa in the middle of my pregnancy...I've been thinking alot whether or not I should move to US while preggo,or deliver it Canada and then move to the US...I just don't like handling two major life changes at the same time, makes me very nervous....also don't like changing OBs,all the prenatal care that I've been taking etc...but my hubby thinks I should be in US...so we have a disagreement on it...
if you were pregnant when you got the visa, how did u handle it...did u deliver it in ur home country, then move to the US, or did you move while preggo...
perhaps hearing some experiences would help me to make my mind..
thnx in advance....

Unless you are literally a 'little person' - then it should be just fine (i'm not trying to be funny btw)
Like sprailenes said - it's different for everyone. My Sister is very small, she has two children. Regardless of your size, I guarantee you the child will be smaller than you are!
agree.even the little people give birth to several kids...dont u see them on the TV all the time ;like little couple, little family realty shows etc...
this topic made me little scared too with talking about 14 lb of babies ....i have six months to go....hopefully ,I will be ok by then.....

As lgg said, they don't state it anymore, it is posted in the consulate, so for those that don't know I guess it is a big surprise on the day
It used to be in the supplemental instructions which can be found here.
In purchasing Xpresspost mailers at Canada Post, please note the following:
• The mailer should be the 314 mm x 394 mm size (12 inches by 15 inches).
• For return addresses in Quebec and Ontario, you may use a “Regional” Xpresspost mailer. All other addresses require a “National” Xpresspost mailer.
• The Xpresspost envelope(s) must be prepaid. The price will vary according to the mailing destination. Be sure to mention your return address to Canada Post staff.
• Address the envelope(s) to an address inside Canada. We cannot send completed visas to addresses outside Canada, including the United States. You must use the visa to enter the United States from outside of the United States.
• Mark the mailing label “signature required” to ensure that someone at the destination address has to sign for the envelope. This will ensure that your passport and visa, which are valuable documents, will not be left unattended.
For further information about using Xpresspost mailers, including information about cost and delivery times, please inquire at a Canada Post location or see the Canada Post website: http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/offering...n/default-e.asp.
Please note the following about having your visa returned via mail:
• We can only return visas using the Canada Post Xpresspost service, not by regular mail or private courier service.
• Neither the consulate nor the U.S. Government can accept any liability for passports or visas lost in the mail.
ok thats a great info.
thanks

Merci Beaucoup, T.M....
I also figure that with all the other people who got interviews, they'll want a refresher in this as well. I didn't get this info in my interview letter, either. .
well thats' why i'm confused...my interview letter does not say that i have to bring these items
-
where does it say that u have to buy these??
-
Our interview date is on Friday. So I was wondering if we have to wait around couple of more hours untill at the end of the day incase they would give the visa the same day.....
we wouldn't be able to wait till Monday for sure...
thnx

I don't have any vaccinations record officially but I did get them all and I can prove this via the titre blood work.
I was wondering if there is any special form that I have to take it with me and give it to my doc. so she can fill out and sign it for me.
Or would the blood work lab test results be just fine?
Thnx
