  1. Looks good to me.

Good luck for a quick and smooth crossing. :)

You might want to ask at the POE what documentation the moving company is going to require from you. Someone recently had issues with their moving company because they "required" an I-94.

This is actually pretty normal. They want to see you have arrived in the US before your personal goods are brought in. They cannot precede you into the US. Since you are crossing with an IR-1, you would send them a copy of your I-551 stamp showing you have already crossed.

Do I need to provide POE with a list of all the things (in my case a 3 bdrm full house) that I will be moving to US on a later day? Or its something I only have to provide to the moving company ?

No, they won't want to see a list unless you actually have the items with you. That would be something you would provide the mover. Since you are not personally accompanying the goods, there is also a custom form you will need to complete and give to the movers. Its like a 3299 I think? Something like that. I'm sure someone else knows.

  2. Its taking about 6-9 months, sometimes more. When you file, you will receive an NOA which is a letter that extends your status for 1 year while your ROC is in process. So you can continue to work and travel as usual. I suggest you check out the ROC guide on the guides section of the site, it tells you everything you need to file.

  3. what ties in specific would she need ... would a drivers license and a health card do with a bank statement?

No, not really. 9 times out of 10 she will likely be let in without an issue. But in the off chance the do ask for ties, they want to see something compelling. They want reasons she will return to Canada. So a job to return to, a mortgage or lease, kids to return to, etc.

  4. Its flu season, so you need to get the flu shot. You can file a waiver, but you'll add months to your process and you will very likely be denied anyways. Unfortunately, if you want your visa you need to comply, they don't care. Back when I went through the process they required the HPV vaccination for anyone under 26, which I was not thrilled about, but I had no choice. In comparison, the flu shot is really not a big deal.

  5. I make my own perogies. I did find them in Kroger but they come in a box of 12 and well I would have to buy a ####### load of boxes for just one meal.

The pop machines tend to make me think they are running out also, I still have not gotten used to it.

Do you remember the brand? We have King Soopers here, but its basically the same place. 12 would work for me!

  6. Gotcha. I don't really think getting the license as "Maryanne" is fraud... its you, its just missing a space. The DMV system is probably wrong too (if the SSA is not just dropping the ball) so you will probably be looking at delay and manual verification there to if you contest the name.

My middle name is Lenora and my maiden name is Swords. Once I was issued a credit card as Amanda LeSwords  It was an error, but I used it for like 2 years... I was also in university and irresponsible...

  7. I had a similar situation (sort of) with the CO DMV. Except, it was over my last name. The system they access to had my maiden name, and my EAD had my married name, so they would not issue me a license.

It sounds like they may be looking at SAVE already, since they said they were looking at 2 different systems. Apparently some offices have access to it, and some do not. At least, that's how it works here in CO- its actually a huge mess, since they are constantly sending people to the same place for verification. The wait times are insane. So if they are using SAVE, it may be an issue of your name being wrong in the SAVE system, which is what happened to me. When I applied for AOS they didn't update their system to change my last name even though they issued all documents to me with my married name on it. It sounds like whoever entered your information when they received your AOS spelt your name incorrectly and it filters down.

If that's the case, you will probably not pass manual verification. I didn't. I waited 9 weeks for them to tell me they couldn't find me. I ended up making an info pass appointment with USCIS and they manually changed my name in their system. I went back to the DMV a week later and magically everything was fine.

Hopefully you don't need to go through all that and manual verification works. If it doesn't USCIS should be able to fix it.

Since you live in CA, don't you need to take a new written and road test before you can get a state license?

  8. A good place to start would be reading the resources available through Citizenship and immigration Canada: www.cic.gc.ca

They have a great website that tells you basically everything you need to know.

With that said, I don't think in-laws are eligible for sponsorship. I think your husband would need to become a PR of Canada and do the sponsoring. I could be wrong, hopefully your research reveals something different.

  9. Always bring your marriage certificate and a certified one too if you can.

I ordered 5 of them after we got married so I keep them in various places including my glove compartment.

There's no reason NOT to bring it, even if they don't ask you or others for it.

What if you just happen to be the person whose doesn't match on that CBP officer's bad day?

No microchips needed, just the rabies certificate for the pets (unless they've changed something in the past year).

Also bring some ties just in case (not so much for yourself, but you're spouse if you're traveling together).

I'm not sure why you would need to bring ties? For the Canadian, it is completely unnecessary as you can move back to Canada anytime you would like. You don't have to prove your intent to return to the US. I asked a CBP why they wanted to see my US GC, and they said it was simply because they want to make sure we can get back into the US after our visit (not sure why they would be concerned with that, but that's the Canadian way I suppose) For the spouse, it is perfectly legal to enter Canada and apply for status inland, so I don't see why Canada would be terribly concerned. Also, the Canadian spouse having a valid American GC is a pretty strong suggestion you are going to return. I've never heard of anyone having an issue with this.

  10. A week in Montreal should be enough time if you went with that option. However, if they discover any medical problems they can refuse to release your results until you are checked out by your regular doctor. This would obviously delay things and you would not have the results to bring to your interview. So if there is anything you are thinking might come up, you may not want to do that.

Generally the medical results are available 2 days later.

For payment, it depends on what doctor you end up using. When I used Dr. Seiden in Toronto, they were only taking cash. Not sure if it has changed since then.

  11. Yes this is the one I used to go to (haven't been there for years though)

Cool, I'll check it out next time i'm in the area. Thanks!

Heinz has a version without hcfc in it called simply heinz..thats what i buy now. KD i can't eat anymore down here..its just god awful..i miss Canadian KD sooo much. i've been able to find Herr's Heinz ketchup chips..not bad..but i miss my Lays ones..and my all dressed chips.

That's what I buy- Simply Heinz. I find it pretty comparable, better than the regular American Heinz.

Anyone know a good brand of perogies you can get down here? I've tried Mrs. T's or whatever, but It's not quite what I'm looking for. They have a noodle like shell, and I like the potato like shell. Can you get that here?

  12. Meh. Winter tires aren't needed. I just drive the way I would a snowmobile. lol.

And I only use boots when I'm shoveling. But they are work boots.

Probably bad habits, but I'm not paying for snow tires when I don't expect to live here much longer.

Totally agree. I'm way cheap for snow tires. I just drift everywhere.

Boots on the other hand... Ugg's are the way to go. They're the only boots I've owned that actually keep my toes warm.

Reading that, it seems my priorities are kinda screwed up.

KDubovik- I Totally agree with your rant!

  13. I would definitely bring a copy of your marriage cert just to be safe. I always have mine but I've never been asked for it.

Your GC should be all you need to get back to the US. Once I was asked for my passport as well. Canada sometimes asks to see my GC as well, for whatever reason.

    Have a great time! :)

  14. I would think if you found any British Import store in your city, they would probably carry Maynards Candy or at least the popular types.

Do you know of any places in Denver?

If you guys are willing to pay for shipping, this amazing site has a bunch of Maynards stuff (as well as other Canadian favourites): http://www.canadianfavourites.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=maynards

The people that run that site are great. They sent me a free box of Cherry blasters last year because they didn't get my Christmas order out in time. Its a little pricy, but not bad! Its worth it.

  15. I'm reading that people are applying for naturalization and getting it before the green card! just wow. imo give them back the money from the ROC...yeah i know..not gonna happen. but dang...

At least i got my bio letter finally. although i'm worried..i read some poeple got RFE for only sending the first page of their joint bank accounts..which is what i did..although i sent a few all with diff address's on em. they are like 6 pages each which is long. i didn't wanna add more pages to the 99 i already sent! lol.

Really? That's dumb. Apparently they want to sort through a few hundred pages! I just sent the first page and it worked out for us, so hopefully you'll be as lucky.

I have been thinking about applying for naturalization but I'm so sick of USCIS... I need a break. And all that money for RoC just to give them more money a year later? Makes me mad! It they would just give us 3 year cards to start with... but no, that would only make sense.

  16. We pulled this off in 2009. We knew it was risky but we took a chance. Worse case scenario, you move the date and lose your deposits. Risk it or don't, its up to you and what you're comfortable with.

What part of Canada is your fiancee in? If she is in the west she will interview in Vancouver, which is very quick. But if she is east of Manitoba she will have her interview in Montreal. Montreal can be painfully slow depending on the time of the year and how busy they are... you may end up waiting 3 months for an interview date. So definitely watch time lines to give you an idea. If you wont make the date you will likely know months in advance.

  17. Ah, huggles, your little girl is so cute! I hadn't been on vj in so long that I missed your arrival. Hope your days are getting better and better.

Thanks girl! Things are great. She is growing and developing quite the personality! Her hair is getting longer and wild too...it stands up on end  For the most part she is a happy, content baby. She has her moments, but she's a really good girl. At 6 weeks she is also sleeping 6-7 hours at night, so I'm thankful for that.

How are things going for you? Have you made any progress on the baby front?

  18. No one was hiring because of the election? Interesting, because I know lots of places hiring right now. The company I work for just hired 3 new employees last month.

You must have filled AOS or you wouldn't have a green card. You mean ROC perhaps? But yes, if you move back to Canada you will lose your GC and if you and your husband ever want to come back to the US you will need to start all over again.

A member here Colleens recently moved back to Canada. You might want to look her up.
