  1. I appreciate the answers from members who shared their experience. All I wanted to know was whether it was realistic and it doesn't seem to be so. However, I don't find your attitude or unsolicited financial advice useful.
  2. Thank you for your response 🙏 I'm relatively new to VisaJourney so I wasn't aware that was the case.
  3. Thank you for your input - it's not about believing you or not. I'm just saying I haven't seen anything official that states this.
  4. I looked into USCIS’s expedite criteria and it doesn't seem like it's specifically limited to U.S. citizens. As far as I understand beneficiary hardship can still be considered, but I'm not sure if our case is strong enough.
  5. As I responded to the other comment, getting married here in the Netherlands takes months so that would slow down our process significantly. We are already at month 6 of the K1 process so it's too late to take the spousal visa route. That's why we're trying to see what our chances are with expediting. Thank you for your response though!
  6. We followed the K1 route as it was supposed to be much faster than the spousal visa. Here in the Netherlands it takes months to get the marriage paperwork ready and approved, and then a few more months to get an appointment to get married. We already paid the fee for K1 and already at the 6th month of the process so the spousal isn't really an option at this point. Thanks for your answer anyways!
  7. Hello everyone, I’m looking for advice or experiences with expediting a I-129F petition due to financial hardship. We filed 6 months ago (end of October), and it looks like USCIS has just started working on September cases. There seems to be backlogs and our case might take much longer than we expected. Our situation is the following: I currently live in the Netherlands with my U.S. citizen fiancé. He will need to move back to the U.S. at the end of July, as he is starting graduate school in August. Once he leaves, I will be responsible for the full rent, which I realistically cannot afford on my income alone. This means I won't be able to cover basic living expenses. (I earn 2100 EUR and our rent + utilities is over 2000 EUR). We’re trying to understand if this could qualify as “severe financial loss” for an expedite request. We have proof of my income, our rent + utilities, his acceptance into grad school and the apartment we will rent in the U.S. I understand that expedites are rarely approved, but I’d really appreciate hearing any real experiences or advice. Thank you in advance!
  8. Thank you! We have quite a few reasons to follow the K-1 route but thanks for the advice
  9. EDIT: Thank you to all who responded!!! I decided to send the petition using my current passport and go to the interview with both my new and old passports.
  10. Hi everyone, I’m a Spanish citizen and my fiancé is an American citizen. We are currently living in the Netherlands and preparing our K-1 petition for me to move to the US. His residence permit in the Netherlands was issued under the ‘Verification against EU law for Union citizen family members’, granting him legal status as the unmarried partner of an EU citizen. As part of our evidence, we want to submit proof of our unmarried partnership under Dutch/EU law: IND approval letter for residence as an unmarried partner of an EU citizen His residence card showing on the back that he is the unmarried partner of an EU citizen Both documents are in Dutch. USCIS requires English translations with a translator certification, but I’m unsure whether this must be a professional/certified translator, or if a Dutch native-speaker friend can translate these documents. Has anyone submitted similar documents for a K-1 petition? Did USCIS accept a simple signed translation, or did they require a professional translation? Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  11. Hi everyone, I’m getting ready to apply for a K-1 visa and want to make sure my passport situation won’t cause issues. My current passport expires on 1 December 2026. I plan to apply for the K-1 (I-129F) in October 2025. In my country, I can’t renew my passport until December 2025 (one year before expiration). Since the I-129F form asks for my passport number, I’d have to use my current passport when we file. By the time the case gets to the NVC/embassy stage, I should already have a new passport. My questions are: Is it okay to list my current passport on the I-129F, then switch to my new one later for the DS-160 and interview? Do I need to formally notify USCIS/NVC about the new passport, or just bring both old and new passports to the interview? Thanks in advance to anyone who’s been through something similar!
