More than likely, in the wrong section for this kind of question. Wow, do I have a wonderful wife now, but neither her or me were smart enough to realize that in our younger years. Just literally all kinds of chemical imbalances in the brain with some kind of people. And you quickly learn that in the sacrament of holy matrimony, that the Holy spirit does not fly down from heaven and make things all right.
If you think its bad now, wait until you get hitched, then it really gets miserable, in the case of my wife, her ex started to beat her. Would sure like to meet that guy, but already had enough legal problems with him, but he more than met his match. I can't believe anyone would treat her like this, she is and still is, the sweetest person I have ever met, anywhere.
If you want my advice, don't walk away from this guy, RUN! No this behavior is not normal, he should be treating you like a queen, bring you flowers, and do just about everything for you.
I had to put a retaining order on my ex, not that I couldn't have flattened her with one punch, but was very cognizant of the legal implications, even got full physical custody of my kids. Now that is rare for a guy.
Oh, my children positively love their new stepmom.

NickD got a reaction from JeanneVictoria in Selective Service
In the 30 odd year of selective service, was never used, was kind of an afterthought after our military was made all voluntary. Even Bush wouldn't consider reestablishing the draft, he would have been crucified if he did. Enlistments went way down. But instead hired way overpaid mercenaries to do his dirty work. And they had a strong advantage over our enlisted, didn't have to dress up like targets nor follow the rules of engagement. I got this first hand from my army neighbor captain that had to serve two tours in Iraq. Of course there was a lot of resentment against this, but would never hear about it on the news.
But yet the USCIS makes a big deal out of this, doesn't make any sense, having to register to a service that has never been used and more than likely will never will be, would be a mass riot in this country if they did use it, just like in the 60's. To be drafted into a non-declared war and also to be greatly restricted in what you can and cannot do.
But that is the way the USCIS is, making much ado about the most insignificant things, like wanting to see a joint utility bill when you already showed four years of joint income tax, adding my wife to my home deed, and having a bunch of joint insurance, etc. Or this latest deal, did you pay your traffic violation fines?
We had the draft for a short period of time for the Civil war, then for WW I, that was pure manslaughter of our troops, hundreds of thousands were sauglthered being very ill equipped and way under trained. Practically the same with WW II, takes a long time to properly train troops. But with all our volunteer military today, we are far more prepared then ever before, perhaps a bit more prepared than we have to be. With only 5% of the worlds population, we have over 46% of the total worlds weapons, most of even mass destruction. If we had a nuclear war, would be over as would the earth we live on even before they could call the first person with selective service. But all this doesn't make any difference to the USCIS.
When my wife and stepdaughter first received their green cards, opened the letter and were jumping up and down all over the place. I looked inside and found a brochure that was on the inside, saying if they were males between 18 and 26 had to register for selective service. Would think you were also warned. But looks like you didn't have to register, such a small thing, takes two minutes on the internet.

Hope you are not referring to Emilio T. Gonzalez, the former head of the USCIS that was in charge when this test was written. A Cuban refugee that helped GWB to get elected that got him that position. Congress let him go after the American Assoication of Immgration Attorneys filed major complaints against him. This happened just before my wife received her citizenship certificate. So hers was signed by the acting director that only did that for a few months.
Did meet my wife after 9/11 when shortly after that, the old INS, Immigration & Naturalization Services was abolished by GWB with that newly created Agency called Homeland Security that the INS became a part of. Orignially formed becaused the CIA and the FBI couldn't talk to each other that would have prevented 9/11 in the first place. So how do you correct agency problems, create yet another agency of course!
But was able at that time to find old INS forms, and they actually made sense! I was so lost with the new forms, had no choice but to hire an immigration attorney. Come to think of it,most of our laws are written that way. Say one thing, mean another.
Lauren Kielsmeier is the current acting duputy directorof the USCIS, apparently a lot more interested in shifting stuff around with lockboxes so even more applications can get misplaced.
    Her education is:
"Ms. Kielsmeier earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Community Health from Tufts University. She holds a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from California State University, East Bay."
Isn't immigration dealing with law? But what do I know, I am not a politician. No English degree, but don't even need that to make sense out of the forms and test questions. See nothing as changed since Emilio was dismissed, maybe she hasn't gotten around to reading the forms yet, maybe she doesn't even know the USCIS has forms. Maybe she doesn't know how to read. These are only wild speculations, but one thing I am dead sure on, whoever wrote the USCIS forms, also wrote the IRS forms.

Ha, would need a lot more than a birth certificate if your fiancé is under 18. Did someone say a copy, from our experience only an original will do. But at least from the UK shouldn't have to be translated by a certified translator.
YuandDan posted a link of required documents. Our process was with a different country and our list of documents was stack of paper about an inch and a half thick. When my wife finally received her US citizenship, that stack grew to almost 4 inches.
What is amusing is that at the end of any form instruction sheet, the USCIS subscribes to the paper reduction act. Can only wonder how it would be if they didn't.
Another form of document is a special engraved photo of Benjamin Franklin on it 7.4218 × 3.125 inches printed mostly in green on a special rag paper. Could also get one with George Washington engraved on it, but that would really be a tall stack.

You have to check with your consulate on that, wifes' country only wants a letter with that biological parents' signature on it.
Even in the USA, major source of kidnapping kids is done by the other biological parent, I even needed a letter from my ex, even though I was given full custody of my natural born daughter, to take her to Disneyworld. And that wasn't even leaving the country.
My stepdaughters father refuse to sign for her passport, but would b!tch that we wouldn't let her visit him, what a nut that guy is. But even if he did sign, she could enter her home country, but could not leave without another current letter showing the exact flight number and date before they would let her leave. She just had to stay here until she reached 18 years of age. In her case, it was five years before she could visit her grandma.
This seemed crazy to me, because we had a court ordered document where he relinquished all rights to his daughter, he was happy to sign that in lieu of having to make child support payments. But that document was worthless in getting her a passport. And was told if she did travel to her home country, would need yet another letter of permission from him to leave. Even though he was no longer a current citizen of that country. He moved to another country.
Also amazes me, her home country can't even take care of the children they have, most are living in severe poverty, should be thankful someone is at least taking good care of that child. Not good living in a world where all the leaders are idiots.

What is a bit nebulous is counting the anniversary date of your green card, or the day before it. Better to figure on using 88 days rather than 90 and even waiting an extra day or two extra then having your application returned. Really a stupid thing to be critical on, but again you are dealing with the USCIS. Just like being rejected if you show up 30 seconds late for an appointment, but after you get in, we had to wait as long as 3 1/2 hours before being seen. Or having a child rejected because that child barely turned over 18, even though you can show them those delays were caused by them. But we lucked out on the I-751 because I had a good attorney pounding on their door when they misplaced her application for her conditional green card. Was 63 days later, but met some that had the same experience with slightly over 90 days, so they had to file a separate I-751 and pay the extra fees due to a no-fault making USCIS.
Really not complaining, just telling it the way it is.

I hope you do have problems if you married a US citizen to come here so you could divorce her and marry that gal from your home country. In particular because of all the ####### we had to go through with constant accusations of fraud for even a valid marriage with threats of a $250,000 fine and five years in a federal prison.
In complete contradiction to the US Constitution, we were guilty of fraud until we proved ourselves innocent with great inconvenience and expense. And all this started in 1986 and augmented in 1988 because of fraud.
Yes, you can fly through US citizenship if you stay single, but will haunt you again during your petition stage, if this is the case, marrying a US citizen for strictly the purpose of coming here. I am not being the judge of that.

First we have to get this male/female thing out of the way, assume you are a male, females do not have to register.
Second thing is your precise age when you received your green card, card has a date on it, resident since xx/xx/xx. Were you under the age of 26 at this date? If so, you had to register for selective service, if over 26 years of age, you did not.
So rather than speculate, give your exact age compared to the date of your green card. Recall when my wife and daughter first received their conditional cards, a brochure came in with their cards and registering for selective was one of things they would have to do if they were males between the ages of 18 and 26. Reverified they were females so was not a concern to us. But wife was over 26 and stepdaughter under 18, but even at that, stepdaughter did not have to register when she turned 18 unless she underwent a sex change.
Selective service is kind of a bad joke anyway started by Reagan, when my son was about to turn 18, he received a post card telling him they know his name, age, SS number, where he lives, but if he fails to return that little post card, he could get a $10,000 fine. Made damn sure he returned it, that was the last he heard about it. When I was his age, received a draft card that I had to carry with me always, just like you have to carry your green card with you always. But I didn't have to carry it very long, was drafted soon afterwards.
No one to my knowledge was ever called from selective service.

Based on a valid marriage, earliest date you can file based on the day you became a LPR is Saturday, November 13, 2010, but to be safe, would send it off on Monday, November 15, 2010. November 15, 2010 should be the date of your application, should correspond with your send off date and the USCIS isn't exactly clear on whether you count the date you became a LPR or the day before that for the 90 days. Besides that, processing time is becoming much shorter lately, and you cannot receive your certificate until your third anniversary date of being a LPR.
Our earliest date was also on a Saturday, we use Sunday as a final check on our evidence and application, evidence stack was quite thick. We made minor corrections. Can't send it off on a Sunday, so did that the first thing Monday morning.
Big factor is doing everything the way the USCIS wants you to do it, and sometimes, that is not easy to figure out.

LOL, thought your last question, was your last question. Yes, not only must you list all previous marriages, but supply the divorce papers of each marriage, in that, those marriages were legally, by US law, dissolved.
Certainly you went through this during your AOS, but that doesn't count for your US citizenship, have to do that all over again.
We use to have just US citizenship in this country, none of that lawful permanent or conditional resident ####### that was started. I feel they never updated the N-400 to reflect these newer changes. So you do it all over again. Probably why my wifes file when she saw it the first time was 3 1/2" thick. Could be just one inch thick as practically all triplicates.
Wasn't their something in the N-400 about a paper reduction act? Forget that, USCIS officers never read those instructions.

So far we spent 500 US dollars in just trying to renew her Colombian ID, while her mom had the original certificate, they wouldn't accept it, so cost several hundred dollars just to get a copy of that same certificate. Entire country is run by what they call notaries, not like here, another word for attorneys. So you just can't get a copy from their government office, has to be through a notary. They like our attorneys know how to charge.
Colombia has three consulates in the USA, none of them are across the street from us, have to show up in person to get their passport, and as I said, they are not very nice to former people born in Colombia that became citizens of different countries, like the USA.
In effect, she did renounce her Colombian citizenship by not renewing her ID, did have her old ID with a photo of a 16 year old girl on it, with an expired ID, has no rights in that country. But the dead giveaway was she had Colombia in big fat letters printed on her US passport. Even if she did formally renounce her citizenship, that would still be there, and try explaining that to the guard at their POE.
In regards to proof of US citizenship, you either have a USA born person with a birth certificate or a naturalization certificate, even an idiot could be able to tell if you were natural born or naturalized with or without your place of birth. As an example SS issues you a unique SS card with a unique number, but they also tell you not to broadcast that number for identity thief. DOS and USCIS broadcasts your place of birth all over the place. What about that so called need to know basis? Government needs to know, but does the rest of the world need to know as well?
What I find totally hypocritical about our DOS and now the buck passed to the USCIS, is that they do not recognize "dual citizenship" , but use the phrase, "dual nationality" instead. But it is "dual citizenship" if a person wants to visit their family in their home country. And it them that forces people in this predicament to have "dual citizenship", because its them that puts either the country of birth or the place of birth on key documents.
Then they make a big deal out of profiling, Colombia carries a stigma with them as everyone from there is considered a drug dealer, my wife, step daughter, and even my mother-in-law were stripped searched when they entered this country. This is not right!

First I contacted "U.S. Department of State <usdeptstate@mailnj.custhelp.com>" and explained our plight, after weeks of waiting, finally got a reply that stated to contact "Ask CA <AskCA@state.gov>", explained our plight again and sent a scanned copy of my wife's US Passport. Only took a week to get a response this time.
    The response was:
"Please contact the National Passport Information Center for assistance. The
    toll free number is 1-877-487-2778."
That was it, I listened to their long message regarding everything including the new rate increases, couldn't figure out which button
to push because none of them seemed correct, then a real live woman was on the line. Explained the situation again to her. Her first advice
was to contact the Colombian Embassy and gave me the number that I already had for Washington DC. Told her they are not very friendly and
treated my wife like she is a traitor to the country she was born in and insist she has a Colombian passport. The woman said, she will have to
pose my question to the support staff and put me on hold for about ten minutes. Her response was to contact immigration and have her place of
birth changed on her naturalization certificate, the Department of State has to go by that. I said, do you mean the USCIS? She said, yes, that is
    correct.
I did tell her I did find a 1986 study on the web where the Department of State polled 27 countries regarding the place of birth, thought only two
objected, think it was Denmark and the Netherlands, Colombia was polled, but they did not object. Did anything come about from this study, she
said she wasn't aware of that, but I will have to contact immigration to have that changed. I did reply that her place of birth is on her
naturalization certificate and is listed as Colombia, although she left that country when she was of legal age to do so. She does not want to be
a citizen of that country, her choice is the USA and she was very serious when she took that oath. Still have to contact immigration was told.
So that is where I am at now. Maybe I will call my senator, sure doesn't pay to write.

NickD got a reaction from Brother Hesekiel in N400, have you ever voted?
Find this whole issue extremely troubling and what in the hell is wrong with this country that I was expected to give my life for. Voter turnout for the 2008 election was only 56.8% like half of the Americans don't ever give a damn who are their leaders, not that they were given much choice. And its not like the OP committed murder, just an honest mistake.
Can recall the day my wife and daughter received their conditional green cards, were jumping up and down with joy, I found that brochure in their envelops and read it, I didn't know a damn thing about green cards, nor the restrictions. Could go down to my super thick immigration file and try to find that brochure, but recall only five things they listed, like carrying your green card when using the restroom at night, and having to give your life to this country if you are a male between the ages of 18-26. But certainly to not recall reading a "do not" list, like voting.
So as a LPR may have to give your life, you sure have to pay taxes, don't believe paying taxes was even mention, and you sure in the hell can't vote, so why don't they tell you that?
In this screwed up country, if a guy is making broom sticks and doesn't put on a warning label, shoving this broom stick up someones butt can cause severe injuries, is held liable for a multi-million dollar lawsuit. Why is the USCIS exempt from this? Government agencies are suppose to be there to serve the people, not to dictate to them! Have to say, my dealings with the USCIS has been a very humiliating experience with my wife having the only means to divorce them was by US citizenship. Yeah, my senator office wanted to talk to her, said, wait a minute, this is MY family they are messing with, and I have full rights to protect my family. It was after that, they let me express our problems.
When I first met my mother-in-law in Bogota, she was depressed not having enough money to pay her property taxes on her $50,000 value home. She said 80 dollars, gave her a hundred and told her to keep the change. But wondered why in the hell I am not living there, we are being robbed blind here with taxes. And if you don't or can't pay them, they kick you out in the street and auction off your home!
With troubling issues like this, tempted to join my wife's country, screw this country with its stupid laws. Newest one here, if I am caught not wearing a safety belt, cop and see that, even though I am only driving 15 mph, our latest speed laws and surrounded by air bags I have to pay extra for, can be fined 200 bucks. My country has gone positively nuts.

NickD got a reaction from Brother Hesekiel in 18 year old daughter and naturalization
I can answer this since our daughter turned 18 before my wife could apply for US citizenship, your daughter, like ours can no longer tailgate on your application, 18 years is the cut off date.
She must return to go, pay 675 dollars, and wait two more years.
I pleaded with the USCIS on this issue and pointed out the excessive delays they had in issuing the conditional green cards, and only talking about a couple of weeks over. 18 is 18 and that is the law.
Step daughter also has an unmarried brother that just turned 21 during before we applied for our AOS, as the sponsoring US citizen, I could no longer petition for him. There, age 21 is the cut-off date, so he has to wait until is mother could petition for him, she could as a LPR, but we were told to wait until she became a US citizen as applying as a LPR would take forever. Also taking for ever as a US citizen, at least ten years will go by. USCIS puts these arbitrary age dates ahead of keeping a family together.
Our daughter due to some USCIS mix up, issued her condition card later than my wife's, but fortunately it was within their 90 day frame. Others that were over 90 days, had to file a separate I-751 for their child. If you apply before 90 days for your I-751 or for your N-400, your application will be rejected.
Just like 55 mph means 55, 18 means 18, 21 means 21, and 90 means 90, they take this days very seriously, and if they mix up, you pay the price.

Seems like falsifying, omitting, misrepresenting, or just downright lying on any for the forms you provided to the USCIS is the most major crime, more so than the crime itself in getting deported. As long as you were 100% honest in filing your forms, should be nothing to worry about.
Read on the net where people answered no to that did you ever commit a crime and were never caught for question. If they did get caught later on, not only a jail term, but can be expected to be deported afterwards, for lying.
