They asked me about my field of work, where I plan to move in the U.S., and why. As long as you can answer those questions confidently, you’ll be fine. I didn’t change my field, but if yours is still related, just explain it broadly, they mainly want to see consistency. NIW cases are super common now, so the officers already know it’s a self-petition without a job offer.

Just dropping my timeline here as a datapoint Don’t stress if you miss your interview, they’ll usually give you another date the next month, provided your PD is super current Also no worries if you haven’t done the medical yet. You can send it in after the interview without any problems. The officer was super chill. Funny thing, I went to the same school in Upstate NY as his daughter, so we ended up chatting about that. He even said he was flying there the next day to visit her 😂 EB2-NIW (ROW) PD: 07/2023 DQ: 03/2024 IL: 08/08/2025 Missed interview (on purpose, couldn’t make that day) Rescheduled: 09/24/2025 221(g) for missing medical Medical + passport sent: 10/21/2025 CEAC updated: 3 times Issued: 10/30/2025 Hang in there everyone, delays happen, but it all works out in the end

Has anyone here self-petitioned (e.g., NIW) and settled in the US still around? If so, did you find better job opportunities right away? How does your quality of life compare to living in Canada?

Can you try to apply for TN if you already have job offers? The worst is they deny at border?
