Citizenship interview was today, and success!

Now, we wait for the ceremony letter.

Depending on how quickly that comes in the mail and is scheduled, we may need to reschedule the ceremony.  Wife is traveling to Philippines in 2 weeks on her Philippines passport, and will be gone for 6 weeks, so we'll see.

Congrats on passing the interview.  My Oath ceremony was 5 weeks after interview.

It went well!  They said it was the first in-person oath ceremony since the pandemic began, so as you can imagine there were a LOT of people (like 1500 people).  The ceremony itself was about 30 mins but what took hours was waiting to get into the building, processing upon entering, and collecting the certificates when leaving.  It was kind of an organizational nightmare but we made it. Lol!  And just such relief that it is all over.  But as always there’s things to do : now to get on with the SSN updates and passport applications.  The neverending paper trail. Lol

1500???  Wow!  Yeah I can imagine the wait of going through each person, but it's an experience to remember for life!  I've got mine Wednesday (about 48 hours from now, not that I'm counting lol!)

Glad you're now a US citizen!!

Hey guys, my oath ceremony is tomorrow and Im feeling so many different emotions as I finally approach the end of this journey.  VJ has been a safe space for me for the past 6 years - I always knew I could find comfort and solidarity from the people on the forums.  It was always a relief to know that I was not alone.  I wanna thank you all for all youve shared and continue to share to help someone else….it really is appreciated.  And good luck to whomever is still in the process - there is light at the end of the tunnel….just hold on a little bit longer!  See you guys in the American wilderness :) thank you thank you thank you and I wish you all the best.

Let us know how the ceremony went!

should i print pictures  of us ? Also do wife need to come to interview? Because she has to go on work and can't take off because of medical profession. I am not sure she will also available over phone at interview time. Some people i spoke they said immigration office may try to contact your wife if she doesn't accomanying you.

If you want to bring pictures, you can I didn't bring any for mine.

At my interview, spouses were not allowed to come into the interview room, so my husband did not come with me at all.  So it's hard to say whether or not they will need to speak to her.

As far as evidence goes, I would bring more than not enough.  Each interviewer is different, and can ask for anything.  I brought my binder with as much stuff as I could gather, but was asked for none of it, so you never know.  I also forgot to add I brought my current passport too, which they did want to see with my other identification.

    Hi all,

I have interview on 4th april in santana. I am applying n400 based on marriage. My Wife is working on the same day and will be busy.  I am wondering What documents I will carry in interview along with 100 questions i prepared. I will carry marriage certificate , Wifes birth certificate which shows US Citizen, My Passport and Tax returns.  What else will be required any joint documents? Also what other questions interviewer can ask. Any expereiences?

    Thank You,

Aside from what you already mentioned, I brought my permanent resident card, driver's license, SSN card, anything USCIS ever sent me from the last 5 years and as many receipts or statements showing residency & marriage as I could.  Better to bring more than necessary than not enough.
My interviewer asked about my work over the last 5 years & went over some of the application questions with me.

The Oath letter I think is mostly a form letter. Our oath was more local. It said NO guests...etc. But I called.... and they said it was fine. So I'd encourage you to call ahead if thats important to you. But the Oath ceremony lasted about 90s and just bunch of people taking pics.  Didn't even have to recite the oath.

My husband is coming with me to the oath ceremony regardless, so we'll see then if they let him in to witness it or not.

  9. HI,

So I forgot to update this thread when I posted about my interview last week, so here goes...

I applied for naturalization in August last year & had my interview today in Detroit.

Everyone from security check point, check-in desk and my interviewer were super friendly!!

After my name was called we went into the office & before starting, swore I would tell the truth.

She asked to see my identification (driver's license, passport, permanent resident card & SSN card if I had it & I did).

Made sure my info was correct (address, name).

    Asked 6 civics questions:

What is the highest court in the United States?

Under our Constitution, some powers belong to the states. What is one power of the states?

If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

The Federalist Papers supported the passage of the U.S. Constitution. Name one of the writers.

Name one state that borders Canada

Where is the Statue of Liberty?

A sentence came up on the tablet in front of me and I had to read it out loud.

Then , she verbally said a sentence which I had to write out on the tablet.

She went over a few of the personal questions on the N400 (parents, my current and previous jobs within 5 years).

Then asked (I think most?) of the Yes/No questions on the second half of the application, which there was no issues with.

Made some small talk, but I kept that to a minimum I just wanted to get through the main part of the interview!

Then she told me I passed!  I brought a binder of evidence to prove my marriage and residency but none were asked for.

Said I should get a letter with an oath date & it would be at that field office.  Unfortunately guests still aren't allowed to accompany us but maybe that will change by that date :)

    Overall great experience.

    Thank you CDAgirlMI for sharing!

This 5-week notice for interview is helpful cuz I keep traveling for my job…I guess now it’s just waiting game haha.

    Fingers crossed!

Yes, they give you plenty notice.  If you have a USCIS account it will show up there too (along with a mailed paper copy).   I think the timeline was showing 13 months when they scheduled me, so I wouldn't worry with that much either.

Same boat, I filed on Nov 21st, 2021. Got NOA and the biometric reused notice on the same day. NBC, filed office Detroit.

Still nothing but showing “USCIS is actively reviewing…”not sure how much longer we are gonna have to wait 😕

I filed in August (Detroit field office) and had my interview yesterday.  So 7 months wait.  I received notice of the interview 5 weeks prior.....if that helps any.

    Hello everyone,

My fiancé and I do shooting competitions and when she moves here she is intends to bring her handguns with her.  Is this feasible with a K1 visa?   It appears we would have to fill out a ATF Form 6 Part 1 but it is not clear on the process after getting the authorization/what to do in the USA with them.

Has anyone done this or do you have to wait until you have a green card to actually bring them here for permanent import?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike.

    Hey,

Just saw your post (I'm not on here often anymore).

I brought my handgun over when I moved here & we just filled out paperwork it was easy.  No waiting until green card.
Where are you located?  We/I competed in USPSA/IPSC as well!

Just coming back to say that this morning my timeline was reduced to 14 months (down from 15 months when I submitted yesterday) and I got a notification that my case is being actively reviewed.  Thats so much faster than the process used to be!  I really hope this means an expedited timeline.

Mine originally said 13 months, within a week went down to 9.
