Any other option is better than waiting on montreal at this point. It could easily be over a year still if they continue at their current pace.

I'm from a country friendly to the United States,I was very very lucky and only waited 13 months. The data I saw before was that the wait was eight to nine hundred days. After I received my green card through an interview at the end of May, no one here seemed to have received an interview letter. Look now  The number of people who pass the EB category at the Montreal Consulate every month is only one-tenth of the previous number, and there is no sign of improvement at all. I would also suggest that if there is a choice, it would be a better idea to choose other consulates for interviews.

My advice to anyone would be if you have any other option exercise it rather than waiting for Montreal. You need to understand that even when you get the interview call the number of folks getting 221G and DS-5535 is really high. Once you get into DS-5535 it could easily be another 8-16 months to get out of it. If you have any visa that has dual intent(H1 or L1) then AOS should be the way to go. I think they were on April 2022 for approx 4 months. Now they moved to May 2022 and god knows how many months they need to move from May 2022

    totally agree

Question for anyone who encountered this. We landed as PRs on the 7th of July at the Piece Bridge. They took our pictures, fingerprints. We got our SSN a week later. However, the GC hasn't been processed. When we sent an enquiry, they replied today saying, that they are missing our biometrics and now have to schedule an appt in the closest Application Centre, when they get availability. But we did give them our biometrics during the landing process. we called USCIS, but it will take a month to get a call from an officer back. Should we drive back to the Piece Bridge and try to find out what happened to our biometrics? Any suggestions? Thanks a lot! I feel like this immigration journey will never end..

We entered the United States from Quebec to activate our green cards. There were three of us, but only my son's photo was taken. We and my wife were not taken, and all three of us did not have our fingerprints taken. I asked the officer at that time if I needed to take fingerprints? He smiled and said, do you want to take fingerprints? I'll record it for you. I smiled and said, no need. Later, we received our green cards smoothly.

Just for your reference, wish you good luck

So what’s the current wait time for EB?

I am about to become DQ’d for EB2, but after reading this thread I want to move my case to my home country - Latvia.

Has anyone had any experience of moving cases?

What’s the interview wait time for EB in Montreal?

My DQ day is February 2022, I waited for thirteen months to receive the interview letter, interview in June 2023, EB3

can someone please help with these below questions? :) :

    1. can we ask the consular officer during the interview to change the address where the physical green card will be sent to in the US? Or does that have to be requested elsewhere?

    2. if my old passport has all the previous US visa stampings, while my current passport is the one mentioned in the DS-260 - should I give my old passport along with my current passport even if the consular officer (the one who checks the documents) does not request for it? Even if they say they don't need it, is it better to confirm with them if the old passport needs to be submitted?

[asking the second question as I see @DeeM faced this issue]

    1. Yes, you can change the mailing address of the green card during the interview. My interviewer asked me if I need to change it. Or you can also request to change the address when POE activates your immigrant visa.
    2. You can show your old passport when submitting documents, tell the officials that your old passport has your US visa on it, and see if they need it

    Thanks .

Do you know - when does the one year starts ?

    • The date the visa was approved. In that case he has until April 10 to come back
    • The date the of Port of entry . in that case he has may 20 to come back

I am worried how long it may take to take care of his medical emergency.

Also - when the green card arrives, if I take it to him back home , does it help ?

I mean he can use the green card to come back ? That gives him couple extra months

    1. POE
    2. Within one year, he can use passport + visa + stamp to enter the country. Of course, you can also send the green card to him, if you don’t consider the risk of mailing

    Hello Guys,

Does anyone can share how the stamp in passport look like with which my dad can travel and come back within a year ?

We have something like this and we are not sure if this is the stamp - or they forgot to put the right one  .

He is still waiting for the physical green card and has to travel back home for medical emergency.

    thanks

    VISA_STAMP.jpg

The visa + CBP entry stamp serves as the temporary green card, which is equivalent to a plastic green card for all legal purposes, including travel.  This note will be printed on the visa itself -- "UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR."  In case it's not clear, I-551 = green card, and endorsement = CBP entry stamp.

Unfortunately I am not able to import it. I had found one RI that that said they could do it but after I paid them they realized that they were not able to do it because I couldn't get a compliance letter. We now have to sell our car in Canada and buy something in the US. Toyota Canada really screwed us over on this.

I had called about 15-20 RIs and one issue that I had was it not having TPMS. Maybe if your car has TPMS they will be able to import it.

My car has TPMS, but I still need to modify the lights on the dashboard. I asked a few RIs and they said they could import my car, we drove to their facility for 30 days and then picked up the car, took their documents and went to DMV to register. How much did they tell you the total cost of importing?Which province are you in?i'm in quebec

Keep in mind that importing the vehicle and registering/insuring it are 2 different things.  You can import the vehicle through CPB (Federal) and they don't care about registration/insurance (State).  My experience was as follows:  before I left Canada I spoke to my insurance company and they continued coverage as long as my vehicle was registered in Canada.  On my initial entry in to the US, I had my visa stamped and I imported my vehicle which was still registered in Ontario.  I continued to drive with Canadian plates and insurance until I received my SSN so I could then get my Michigan drivers license.  I had to get US insurance on the vehicle before I could get it registered and plated, so once I had SSN/Michigan DL & US insurance, I registered the vehicle with the SOS and got it plated and then cancelled my Canadian insurance.  It was about a month from importing to when I got it registered in Michigan and drove back and forth a few times from/to Canada during that time with no issues.  As long as your insurance company will cover you while it is registered in Canada, you could just import it and get it registered in the US later.

May I ask if your Michigan drivers license was directly replaced with a Canadian driver's license? Do you need to take the exam again? What documents are provided? Thank you

Did the letter they gave you state the discrepancies needed to comply with DOT standards?  My vehicle didn't meet them either but were simply badging discrepancies.  I ultimately had to just get the passenger airbag light changed from the Canadian version (with symbols) to the US version (with words).  Once I had that and the invoice from the dealership, along with the letter from the manufacturer, ownership and letter from bank that there was no lien it took about 30 minutes at the border to import.  This was in May of this year

May I ask how much you paid for the modification of the airbag light?

  11. Because lexus no longer issue us a compliance letter, it can only be imported through a registered importer, my question is:

Our car has to be parked in their facility for 30 days, after paying customs duties and other fees to complete the formalities and get the import documents, and then go to the DMV to register. Will my Quebec license plate still be valid when we go to pick up the car and leave their facility? At that time, can I still drive back to Montreal to pick up my moving things and then drive to North Carolina DMV to register?Thank you for your answer!
