Hi, I sent an email to the address ("U.S. Visa Information Service (Canada Yatri)" <canada_contactus@visaops.net>) and explained my problem with screen shots of the process and issue. They got back to me in a few days. After a few back and forth, the account was set to pay the fees. Also make sure you selected "immigrant visa" as the choice on the Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service | English (usvisa-info.com)

Also see the Visa Application Payment Issues email in the Contact section of the ais service: Contact Us | Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service | Canada | English (usvisa-info.com)

    Best wishes.

Thank you! I reached out to them via email and they said that the payment option will appear once interview appointments are available. So hopefully it works out!

Hi, my appointment letter for Montreal says "K (fiancé/e) visas: Must pay before arriving at Consulate.  See https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-ca/niv/information/fee for more information. (Please bring a copy of your MRV fee payment.) ". There is the fees that must be paid on the link, But I don't see any further info or link on where to pay.  Any one knows?  Did people pay at the embassy on the day of interview? Please help. Thanks.

Hi! I’m currently struggling with this same issue. I was looking for a solution and saw your post. May I ask how you were able to solve this? I’m stressing. Thank you! :)

  3. Hi. I am wondering if it is ok to tick mark the P3 checklist and email it back to the consulate, even if I don’t physically have my fiancés i134 signed form yet? I have all of the documents ready, I am just waiting on physically having the i134 form with me right now… I will have it in 2 weeks from now. I just wanted to clarify if there is any issue with that or not? Thanks!

  4. Hello, we received a letter from NVC stating they will now forward our case to the embassy in Montreal, and the process may take several weeks. It also said that the embassy will contact us when they are ready to process our case. I’m wondering, do we start on the DS160 and i134 forms now, or do we do that when the embassy gets in touch with us? Also, when do we schedule the interview… does the embassy tell us when to do that? Thanks in advance!

  5. Hi everyone. I am wondering does anyone know how long the NVC process is after NOA2? And now long the Montreal consulate takes to schedule and interview for k1? I’ve been looking at traditional wedding dresses in my south asian culture… and they take 3-5 months to be made, shipped, and in my hands. I want that to be the least of my worries and have that done and ready by the time my interview comes around. I should be getting NOA2 any day now, as I’m a august 2021 k1 filer. So I’m just wondering how much longer I can expect the process to be for someone in Canada who applied for the k1 visa. Thank you!

Most of the people who do shortcuts to life in the US, will have that constant feeling that ICE is out to get them.

If someone enters illegally, that says a lot of their moral character, or lack-there-of.

I'm glad to have played the waiting game, and be here legally. I never have to worry about being caught.

Me too. Waiting sucks but at least we don’t need to worry about anything going wrong in the long run. Immigration is no little matter and definitely not something to play around with or find loopholes in in my opinion. I wish the best for everyone in their journey, it’s definitely not easy! :)

Intending to marry while visiting on your visitor visa is immigration fraud, like many others have echoed above me.

I went through the K1 route as well (during covid, yuck!) and I am also from Canada. Feel free to ask me anything!

Thank you! I definitely may reach out because I did have some questions about the process especially moving from Canada :)

  8. Hi everyone. My fiancé and I are K1 filers. We should be getting our NOA2 any day now. I’m Canadian and he’s American. I have many friends and family telling us that we could’ve gotten married and lived in the US without doing this whole process. However, I feel like we did the right and honest thing by choosing a method “by the book”. But I’m curious, are people really able to use the visitor visa/visa waiver to get married and adjust status without leaving the US? Also, on a spousal visa… how long are you able to visit/live with a spouse in the US at a time before getting your green card? I would love to be able to answer how different methods work compared to the k1. Thanks!!

Yes, it was her choice,  it was a blessing as a K1 entrant,, you can't work, drive really,  it was a way for her to keep busy, and she needed to do 20 weeks of schooling to get licensed here in Nevada anyway.  650 hours, plus 80 clinic hours,  she got licensed about the same time ead/ap showed up.

That’s great! It is the perfect time to take classes while waiting for ead and ap.

    1. After immigrating to the USA you will do an exit tax return the next year. In the case of HST checks, etc you will need to contact the CRA to let them know you moved so that you do not erroneously get these checks.

    2. Much like the USA unless you renounce Canadian citizenship you have it for life. July 2019 I became a US citizen so I am now a dual Canadian/United States citizen, hence the name Canerican. Nothing will happen to your Canadian citizenship once you become a green card holder.

    3. I would highly suggest that once you get married that you be added to your spouses insurance until you are able to work.

Once you immigrate you are not able to use your provincial insurance anymore. Not even when you visit. This was an area that was a shock to me once I started working and paying for insurance. Coming from Canada where it appears as though we do not pay a premium, etc it took me a bit to realize that, in my opinion, I am getting better quality care paying for my health insurance.

I hope this is a help to you and good luck on your journey.

    Thanks!

No. You should file with CRA by April 2023 if you had income in Canada.

    Nothing.

Yes. I was a gc holder for over 30 years before I became a U.S. citizen and I remained and still am a Canadian citizen.  The only way you can lose your Canadian citizenship is by paying a fee and formally renouncing it

It is a good idea to renew your Canadian passport. The process is by mail now and over the decades has become progressively easier for those of us in the USA.

Except at the height of Covid restrictions, Canada permits Canadians with U.S. citizenship to enter and leave Canada on their U.S. passports. However for a time during Covid only Canadian citizens, Canadian PRs, and some visa holders (and certain relatives) could enter Canada.  Having a valid Canadian passport was handy as it let me board the flight to Canada.

Having a second passport is useful. When my U.S. passport is getting renewed, I can enter Canada, and fly from there on my Canadian passport.

Note sure that that is, but generally you have to be a resident of a province or territory to maintain coverage in a Canadian government health plan.

I prefer American health care regardless. When traveling to Canada or anywhere else outside the USA, I have travel health insurance. I have an annual travel insurance plan as it is cheaper than buying a plan for each trip.

    Thanks!

  11. Hi, I’m wondering if anything in particular needs to be done before leaving Canada and entering the US on a k1 visa. For example:

Do we need to advise Canada Revenue Agency of the move or do anything in regards to taxes?

This is a silly question, but what happens to our Canadian citizenship? Is it something we always have, even when we become a green card holder in the states?

What happens if our Canadian passport expires before we get a US green card, let alone US citizenship years later?

Are we still able to use our MSP healthcare benefits if we are visiting back home in Canada?

    Thanks! :)

Thank you! It's been such a stressful and long ride but it feels good to see an end in sight.
I got my P4 on Aug 31 which is what you need to schedule your interview.  You can take a look at my timeline and check out others that are similar to yours here on VJ.
The Facebook group 'Montreal K1 Visa Applicants' also has a good spreadsheet with people's dates to give you an idea of the most recent timelines.
    Good luck!

Yes the process is taking MUCH longer than anyone thought I think. I just took a look at your timeline and will also take a look at the FB group! Thanks! And it seems like we are headed to the same part of the US! :)

And good luck on your interview! 👍🏽
