Did you file a K1 before getting married?

I've noticed cases with an approved K1 (NOA2) have faster approvals if the couple switches to the CR1...

Yes. We already had an approved K1 beforehand but we cancelled and abandoned if for the CR1 since our K1 hadn't moved in 2 years.

Thank you for all the replies. My wife and I have been debating and now leading towards going for spouse visa. I plan to go to Philippines in few months and stay there with her until we get spouse visa. We felt fiance visa seems risky especially on AOS part. We'll keep an eye on other couple's progress. At least with spouse visa she can get a green card within couple weeks and no paying around 1200 for AOS filing.

We were on the same boat. We waited almost two years for our K1 and then we ended up getting married online through Utah. A month after we were married and before I went to go visit her, we got an email that our K1 was being transferred to the embassy (AHHHHHH!!!).

I asked around if we could still go back to the K1 because I didn't want to wait for the whole CR1 process, but we figured it was going to be too risky so we stuck it out.

Our CR1 process has been fast. We applied for it on January 2, 2022 and we are one week away from potentially being DQed from the NVC and transferred to the Manila Embassy.

Yes. we had to wait longer but it helped that I was able to visit her, and that when she gets here she will be able to start working immediately.

  3. First off, I am very sorry to hear about your father. I also lost my mother 2 years ago to cancer and it was tough not having my now wife with me during those times.

We recently sent an expedite request to the NVC while waiting to be DQed and we received two emails about 18 hours apart.

One email states that our expedite request is under review, and the second email states that:

"The U.S. Embassy in Manila, Philippines is willing to expedite this case when we have all fees, forms, and documents and your case is documentarily complete. If NVC determines you have paid the necessary fees, submitted the required immigrant visa application, Affidavit of Support, and supporting documents to NVC, you will receive an email that your case is documentarily complete. If you have not already done so, please pay your fees and submit Form DS-260 at https://ceac.state.gov.

Please note that only the U.S. Embassy has the ability to approve or deny expedite requests."

Does this email mean that our expedite request has been granted? We just have to wait to be DQed?

We're on track to complete the process after only 5.5 months if my wife passes her interview on the 5th. The difference between our two cases is that we benefited from an expedite with conditions meaning NVC forwarded our case to the Embassy immediately after DQ, and we were able to book an appointment online very quickly, but nothing up until our DQ on April 11th was expedited. I'm guessing it would have ended up being about 7 months for us as well without the expedite. Needless to say I'm happy we went CR1.

Our process is also moving along pretty quickly. We turned in our I-130 paperwork on January 2nd and we are currently waiting to be DQed at the NVC. What reason did you use for expedition and did you expedite after being DQed or while waiting to be reviewed?

  5. Hello,

My husband just received an email for an interview appointment for a K1 Visa we had applied to in early 2020. With the onset of COVID and the ongoing uncertainties, we decided to get married and switch to the CR1 Visa instead. We are currently under review for our CR1, and we don't know if the K1 Visa could affect the process in any way. We were under the impression that the K1 would automatically be revoked if we applied for another visa but we aren't so sure anymore. Should we officially cancel our K1 or would the system work it out? If so, how do we go about cancelling it?

    Thank you!

  6. We just received our NOA1 for the CR-1 yesterday. He is currently in Manila with me and is due to leave at the end of the month. I was wondering if it was possible for me to visit him with a  tourist visa (if I am even able to attain one) during the wait or if there is anyway of expediting the process. His parent is terminally sick and I wish to meet them in person.
