  1. as long as he's talking about the actual place and not the people, i wouldn't worry too much. maybe he just doesn't like it there. maybe he is being sarcastic. the canadians will jump on me, but i don't say much good about newfoundland canada (where my husband is from) cept maybe nice to look at, but really, it just wasn't for me. my husband doesn't seem to be offended, i think he's just happy to be out of the snow almost as much as i am

  2. I think she said he doesn't brush his teeth. I don't think you're in a good situation. If you guys aren't able to communicate, its never going to change at all and will just get worse. I wouldn't put up with that. Sounds like he isn't ready to be a husband if he is threatening to go find someone else. If my husband said that, I'd just say the same back or say good, go away. Those aren't things people say when they're in a supportive marriage.

Has it been like this since he got here, or just now getting worse? I don't know if you guys told each other your expectations of a marriage before you got married either, so I don't know how much you knew about what you were getting into either. Sounds like he is immature and throwing temper tantrums. I wouldn't stay. You can't be the one doing all the changing either. You will never be happy.

  3. standard, some asshat rear ended us :(

    oh dear.. everyone okay? :(

yeah, we're a bit sore, he hit us at about 35 mph, just sucks cuz i think the truck is gonna be totaled and we bought it right before we left canada. so probably have to go car shopping again, which sucks

  4. I didn't even get that, they give a link to their website after you pay instead! When I called they told me that was normal. Might be a very new thing. I went through my own greencard process 6 years ago and I am amazed by how much things have changed.

I don't think they ever sent the actual forms but just sent a paper that said where to download them

could be. when we paid online when they just started it, so must be new.

  5. Don't forget to prepare and have her sign a letter of intent (see example forms) and she will need a passport photo for the G-325 as well. While you're there take plenty of pictures and save all evidence of your trip.

Best bet is to visit the K-1 Guides here on VJ and read through all you can in the links at the top of the forums. Go down the checklist and put your petition together so you can get it sent straight away. ;)

good luck to you and welcome to VJ.

I've been trying to dispell the misconception that passport pictures have anything to do with the G325a. They don't. They are simply listed next in the list of required documentation, so we logically list them there in the cover letter and place them there in the stack of papers. Passport pictures are supplied in support of the petition, not the G325a.

Agreed. However, given that people forget to add the photos at times, why not associate them with a specific document? For those on the front end of this process, any hints or reminders will be beneficial. Hindsight is 20/20.

No "why not?" at all. Associate them with the I-129F just like all the other supporting documents. That elevates their importance a level.

Then we should specify that, in basic terminology. Petition? That has specific meaning to those that understand the meaning of petition (I-129F). For those at the front end of the process, they may not understand that the petition for alien Fiance = I-129F.

Yes, the pictures support "petitions" whether I-129F or otherwise but this is the K1 forum. The same kind of pictures are used for other purposes too.

when i saw them open the brown envelope, those old passport pics were attached to the g-325a.

  6. ohh the hockey one sounds awesome.

we got married in the city hall in conception bay south, newfoundland then had the after party at hubby's parents house with about 50+ people there. all his family of course lol

  7. Hello All,

Just over a week ago my wife came to the US under a CR1 visa, with me, after a DCF in Amsterdam.

All went okay, the whole process at the airport took about 20 minutes not including time waiting in line.

I just realized today that the visa was just stamped with a normal "admitted" stamp, the same kinda that I get as the USC. Is this the correct stamp to have? The visa itself says it serves as temporary proof of residence, but there's no stamp saying employment authorized, etc.

Is there any reason to be worried about this?

i was worried too, but thats how they are now. we had the normal admitted with cr-1 wrote down and valid for a year later. but already have green card, so i guess they did it right

  8. Took me around 7 weeks to receive both SSN and Greencard. Had to apply for SSN at the local SS office.

Did you have to bring any other documents other than Passport/Visa and SS-5 Form?

no, thats all my husband had. but we did have the green card when we went to the SS office. the lady didn't even look at it, just the visa in the passport. GC took about 3 weeks, SS took a week after going in there.

  9. Ok, please forgive me since were not even starting this process until next year. But, with a CR1 why do you need to bring the xrays? I thought that you do the medical in Montreal and you get the PR? Where does the Xray go to at that point?

once you get it back, they will never ask to see it again. i heard that rarely they will at POE but i know they didn't when my husband crossed. so i guess you can either frame it or toss it when you get to the US lol.

  10. This story makes me scared to go to Texas because I'm out of status now even though I already filed for my AOS. If you live in Texas or have been there and experienced similar thing as the girl in the story did, please share it also.

No AOS, got caught, put in jail

I just want to know if some people here have been out of status (but with a pending AOS application) and traveled or lived in Texas, was interrogated in a border patrol check point and it didn't turn out to be a problem. i'm going to texas and im sure my application won't be approved by then so now im doubtful because of what ive read.

I have read the story and that was scary. My concern is, we are just about to file for my AOS next month but prior to that, were going to Biloxi Mississippi for my Vaccination appointment and my visa expires tomorrow February 14, 2009, I just want to know, what necessary documents do I need to bring if somethings come up along the way.

as i said, where in texas are you going? if its close to el paso, you will hit a check point (at least on the way back). the border is so close there you can see it. if you're gonna be no where near there, don't worry. if you're on I-10 and worried, go away from the border and take I-40

  11. are you driving to texas? just avoid I-10

yes my husband and i will be driving. so it's still not safe then, even if you've filed already? :(

depends on where in texas though and where you're coming from. you pass thru checkpoints on I-10. if you're west bound I-10, there is one in New Mexico, if you're east bound I-10, there is one right outside of El Paso, TX. so if you're going a different route, you won't see these places. I'm not sure if there are more (those are the only ones I have seen), but I know those are there due to the fact its so close to the Mexican border. I've drove to Houston, and thru Dallas from Austin, and know there are none there.

  12. just a random post about nothing, but might be neat to someone. going thru some old stuff at my house, i found a copy of my great grandmother's naturalization paper. lol dunno where my grandmother's is since she was born in england too.

  13. I'm pretty sure it was 12 or 15 bucks to park in the all day parking on the street from where the consulate is on, but if you get in line first, there are meters in on the street that the consulate is on, and they don't accept coins till 9am, and we where out about 10 mins before 9, so if you're first in line, you can risk it lol. we didn't mind the all day since we just drove down there and park there when we ate. hotels charge 12 bucks a day for parking anyways down there, even the one you're staying at.

  14. Turning more serious for a fleeting moment: You have no timeline here; do you have a green card? If not, be VERY wary about living (or traveling) within approximately 50 to 80 miles of the Mexican border. This area is known as the "De-Constitutionalized Zone," with inland checkpoints run by Customs & Border Protection (CBP). If you cannot prove your citizenship, expect at least delays, if not harassment. In addition, the county Sheriff's Departments often do not recognize the Fourth Amendment (unreasonable search & seizure), or the finding of courts (over & over again) that "the claim and exercise of a Constitutional right cannot be converted into a crime." Sad but true, si man. :(

they aren't that bad. we drove thru with newfoundland plates. he did do a second take at the plates but just waved us through

  15. Hehe, these stories are great! I'm amazed at how many of us have accidentally fallen in love with people we've met on video games.

My almost-husband and I are both members of an NHL message board, so we said a few words to each other on the board during the Canucks/Stars playoff series in '07, but that was about it. After the series was over, there was a discussion on the board about video games, and I posted my Xbox Gamertag on there, and I eventually received a friend request from him which said something like 'hey, it's so-and-so from the hockey board', so I accepted it. Then one day we were both on Xbox Live at the same time, so I sent him a message to see if he wanted to try a game of NHL 07. It took forever to get the game servers to cooperate long enough to finish an actual game, but we kept trying. He seemed like a cool guy, and I thought his accent was hilarious, so we had a good time talking while his Dallas Stars were beating the ####### out of my Vancouver Canucks. We'd send each other messages through the hockey board to coordinate game times, and eventually he downloaded MSN messenger and we talked on there occasionally. After a while, we were talking pretty much every day, and eventually exchanged phone numbers and stuff. We both thought there was some kind of a spark, but we tried to be realistic about things and just tried to ignore it, but that didn't work very well. Eventually, last spring, I decided to take a road trip for a few weeks to go see him. I figured that if I got there and it felt weird, I would just drive off somewhere else, enjoy the rest of my vacation, and that would be fine. Disappointing, but fine. But of course it wasn't weird at all, and we had a really amazing time together. It was so hard to drive away!! And now here we are, preparing for our wedding on Friday!

lol mine is almost the same as yours. except we both post on a poker forum and play online. i got an xbox and added friends from the board, he was one of them. We started playing GOW nonstop together, i was obviously a sucker for the accent. I guess the only difference about my visit to meet him the first time, i never drove away and got married and hibernated in canada until we got to go to the US. and yes, we're a bit crazy lol

**Sigh** We go to real casinos  Maybe I am out of touch, but you just cannot beat the energy of a real gamble

lol well poker isn't rly gambling since you're beating the player not the house. just avoid online blackjack and you're ok lol. we go to real casinos too, but will usually go to places with a poker room of course. online is cheaper since they rake less, but its faster.
