Since citizenship has become a factor in 2022 when it comes to travel, it may help to have a dedicated logistics thread for petitioners / beneficiaries attempting to access / leave Russia, Belarus, and other impacted countries in the region for the purpose of eventual travel to the United States.

Essentially, a repository of stories of success and incurred hurdles, a library of events related to visa acceptance at border crossings and airline / train / bus companies, and so on.

After all, petitioners and beneficiaries still have to get to Warsaw or Frankfurt somehow to go forward with their visa progress, unless they have succeeded with a case transfer elsewhere.

As someone who's further along the same process as you, AND already has an IL, I'd suggest trying to get by WITHOUT one, unless you have a really complex, or problem prone case.  Had I know last February what I know now, I most likely would not have retained said lawyer.  If things go as hoped, I'll have my finacee approved with a K1 visa within 2 months of getting my NOA2.  I realize the odds are against me, but the downside is just waiting a little longer, versus being an attentive and squeaky wheel.

    Hey everyone,

I just signed up here on Visajourney yesterday. Place seems like a pretty legit source for info, or atleast the links that source official information, so here I am.

With all of the recent happenings, Warsaw becoming the de facto embassy for the "homeless" Russians,  does anybody think that this could be grounds for further lawsuits?

I have yet to even hire an immigration attorney, but at this stage, things are becoming so complex. I'm sure I will need to get one in the near future.

I respect and appreciate the men and women who work these jobs at all these government agencies, and I am not in it to hassle anyone, just,  I personally feel this is getting a little bit ridiculous. Some of you have been waiting years and there is still no end in sight. (I am stuck at NVC, NOA2 was the last thing I received, plus a few emails from NVC telling me that covid is causing delays, yada yada, do not take further action at this time.)

It's not something I want to do, but I want to live without my fiancee for another year, even less.

As a person who had the unfortunate experience of needing lawyers recently, going through Warsaw is bound to be the cheaper and faster route. Lawyers are extremely expensive and what's worse is, they can make mistakes and give wrong information.

I would just stick with the Warsaw route for now. The medical can be done in Moscow so at least there is that. Unless you have a strong reason to switch to another embassy like Georgia or Kazakhstan, Warsaw is the best bet.

I second this. I talked with a lawyer in May about an ir1 and she told me a lawsuit was not going to help. We transferred the case to Poland in May and had the visa by early October. I think things are moving faster now. Based on the timeline she gave me, a lawsuit would have been resolved no earlier. I think any honest attorney will tell you the same (and charge you $250 for the hour of their time!)

A ban against hiring locals does not seem like it should should shut the embassy down completely. It seems like we are just upset that we've lost cheap labor, and refuse to hire and train Americans to send to work abroad. I know that diplomats have been expelled from Moscow in a ####### for tat sort of move, but I don't recall reading that Moscow is limiting the number of Americans working in the American embassy. Admittedly. I could be completely wrong.  Again, excuse my cynicism.

I am no expert. Not even close. Very very far from it.

I just submitted an inquiry on the public inquiry forum yesterday, so we'll see how that goes. I'd much prefer that route myself. But it just raises a lot of questions as well. (Schengen visas, backlogs, medicals, not to mention the issue about covid vaccines which is a separate issue)

Excuse me if I've come off hostile, I'm just trying to explore avenues and see what other people are thinking.
