Here is Our Story:
1) Feb 2008 -Tried at SSA when she arrived using I-94 (no luck -we were told wrong birthday at SSA) called State Senators office and spoke with an Immigration Official - he said that was unlikely that it was true.
2) March 2008 - Tried again, brought marriage license etc. all required paperwork -(no luck -we were told wrong birthday at SSA again) marriage license didn't help.
3) Late March 2008 - Made an Info Pass Appointment - we were told we wasted our time driving there.....all info including birth date.......were correct at USCIS. AND USCIS said that they are both on the SAME computer system (USCIS/SSA) because its government related. And when Jenny arrived everything was placed into a SAVE and would not have been changed.
4) April 2008 - went back to SSA and we were told that our I-94 had expired and we would need our EAD. Told them what USCIS had said about the same system and they seemed dumbfounded.
So we waited.....
5) Recieved EAD, next day August 12th, went to SSA and just today received SSN/Card.
All the while, ALL of our documents were clearly up to date and precise, no errors. Exactly what they had requested EACH and EVERY visit. Thank God it is over....

Jenny is complete now ....received her SS Card today

Yes and we are doing the same here! We found a nice big church parking lot here. Patience is the key.

Personally, I would keep the appointment as is. Not from Houston, but the gov seems to like their schedule.

I'm asking when you GET your EAD that you applied for with the AOS how long before you can apply for SSN. Otherwise how long does it take for SSA to have you in their SAVE system?
Hmmm, well we are still waiting for Jenny's SS card, we filed again for the 5th time right after her EAD arrived. As far as the 'in the system or saved' according to the local USCIS Office in OKC (we made a infopass awhile back), all information is placed in SAVE when you first arrived in the USA. However, the local SS Office here states that they can't find the information or its different (??)
Its suppose to be the same system Haole at the SS Admin & USCIS.
The SS Number has been the only nightmare in this whole process.

Thanks! It just takes time for it to appear after biometrics, in regard to our own experience...I don't know why.

Hi all , we are so Happy! He is waiting for the Carta Blanca, (applied Aug. 27th in Trinidad, Cuba), no damage during Hurrican Gustav, and they did the Vivienda! Hopefully there will be no problems with that! I hope he is here soon so we can have out civil ceremony immediately and start planning for the family reception! I do not know the next steps after he gets here. Hopefully he will get the EAD at JFK. I do not know what Biometrics is ,or if we should gwet a lawyer for the Green Card process. We will get married right away, and I had a horrible experience with my K-1 attorney. Please advise!!!! This site was way more helpful than the lawyer!----Karena y Omar
you might want to fill in your timeline so readers know where you are in this process.
Yes, I did fill out part of it but I need to go back and figure out how to post what I filled in. Basically I petitioned for him in December, he was interviewed ad granted a Visa in July, and should be here by early-mid october. Then we get married and do whats next...that is where I am confuesed!
After the arrival to the US you have 90 days to get married (the sooner the better). Within the 90 days, gather all of the documents you will need and correct forms for filing (view the guides here for filing your AOS and download the forms from USCIS) be very detailed. The cost for filing is still I believe $1010.00 total. Biometrics ...is when the call you in at your local office and fingerprint you.
When to file has been debatable through various discussions here, we filed roughly a week after the 90 days. Getting an Attorney? you really don't need one.....people here are very well versed in this whole process and very helpful.
Ask questions here at VJ. Good Luck & God Bless ...

hi, i am trying to check my case on line on USCIS page. it says i need my 13 digit number (application receipt number) mine starts with MSC....... placed in the top left of the 3 receipt notices i got..... but it doesnt work!!!!!!! can sombody give me a clue what may be the problem????
or i have to wait for som other 13 digit number?????
thanks!!!
K.
We could add the I765 & I131 case numbers ( MSC**********) immediately , but not the I485 for about 3 weeks or more as I recall, even after biometrics. I wish I could tell you why this happens, but don't have an answer. It all seems like an eternity though and requires lots of patience, just waiting.

Hello Beng & Carl,
If its any consolation, we are still receiving touches (for what ever reason). We would receive a notice and then online it would be updated (?) We received our welcome letter before it indicated it was approved online. As a matter of fact, every notice we recieved was later updated online.
Try to relax if you can and enjoy each other. Everything will work itself out. Jenny & I are praying for you both...

Its on its way...we were expecting things to move faster as well and I suppose some do & some don't.

I don't know where your interview will be held, but the Weston is nice downtown (Detroit/Windsor area). God Bless you on your interview!

This may be helpfull?

USCIS will want facts, and we had the same problem with information in certain areas being too long to type in so we wrote/printed this information clearly by hand in those areas.
-
Proof of an ongoing relationship: letters (stamped), cards, phone bills, emails, chats, receipts for gifts sent are some that are helpful.

Congratulations!!!
. I got mine too today
GREAT......and Congratulations to you both
. Thanks Everyone !
