You don't have to extend the petition. My husbands interview was in July and the petition was approved in January. I never had it extended, I heard the embassy automatically does that for you. After all it is the embassy's fault why it has been over 4 months, as they schedule the interviews so far out, right?

yes you need a transit visa, but must have US visa first and probably have to show proof of your flight itinerary. my husband passed through Italy and had to have US visa and itinerary before getting the transit. I am quite sure you have to have it to pass through Amsterdam.
To save confusion yes I would have her fly direct to JFK.

Every time I hear Kenkey, I remeber this little old lady walking pass my office in the Osu, North Labone area, you could hear her echos coming from far "KeeenKeeeey, keeenkeeeey" over and over again. When her voice would get close I would always run out side. Because, I knew the guying with the cooler was on her heals selling my favorite "fan-choco" in the brown and yellow bag.
Now I'm about to get upset,,, I'm having fan-choco witdrawls.
oh you make me want some milk. i love fan milk!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the chocolate one, yes the one in the brown and yellow bag. Someone needs to sell it here, I love it soooo much.
I carry a case in my luggage when I return from Africa. The pitiful thing is the first few weeks I eat them like crazy, but, when I get down to the last few, I act like there gold bullion.
I am scheduled to travel to Ghana in February, and all I can think about is bringing home Fan-Choco and Digestive biscuits (a case of the 2 packs) from Makola Market. Ohh yeah, my Wedding Dress is being made by Evelyn in Accra.
Ok, I didn't want to say this in my first post, but I brought the milk back in my luggage too!!!
I thought that was strange of me, but I guess I was not the only one, lol.

Thats a nice review Jenn, I also had to sit on the USC side. But the guards in the very front would not let me in the waiting area until 8:30, so my husband had already done most of that getting up and down and going over to the window for different things. When he was finally called over for the interview, he went alone. He said the CO asked where I was and my husband told him I was sitting right over there. The CO asked who let me in the building, husband said I wasn't going to wait outside alone for all the hours he had been waiting indoors. Anyway, thats when the CO told him to call me over to the window.
I like what you said about all the chairs being empty on the USC side, while I was waiting(not to mention freezing to death), there were several Ghanaians who came to sit on the chairs and were told to move. There were no plants seperating us at that time. Most of the time I was the only USC sitting over there, people would come and go, and different CO's would come to the window and ask if I needed any help. I wanted to say, yea tell them to hurry up!! But I kept quiet and froze.
Jenn I'm so glad everything worked out for you and James.

I feel like it is all up to the CO if you will be allowed into the interview. I was in Ghana the day of the interview and was able to sit in the embassy while my husband waited to be interviewed. I also was called over to the window, standing right next to my SO for the entire interview and we were both interviewed.
Try not to worry Efia, there have been others that were approved without being there. For my husbands interview, I feel like it was necessary to be there. But that really depends on each situation. Were all here for you.

I changed my last name to my husbands. At work, some people are so confused and call me by my old last name. I've tried my best to make sure my name was changed every where at work, but it seems like my co workers/boss cant accept change. My husband was very happy that I changed my name. He thought I might not do it because he thought it was a lot of work. He was very suprised how quickly I changed it. I never liked my birth last name, so I was very happy to change it.
Since I have changed my last name, my husband said he is going to change his last name to something else! I was like
He says he doesn't want to have his fathers last name, or have anything to do with his father. Because he left him at a very young age and has never spoke to him again. I have also learned when my husband was younger, in school he decided to use his older sisters last name because of his feelings for his father.
I hope he decides to not change his last name because I like it and I'm not changing it again.

I was introduced to my now husband over the phone, through his mom (a friend of mine and used to be co-worker). So I'm not so sure about meeting a man on the internet, but people do it and find love. Good luck, maybe go to nigeria on vacation and look for a man.

Congratulations!!!!!

The stamp is like a green card, if something like urgent travel is necessary, you could go out of the country and return on it even without an actual green card.
It is not usually given at the AOS interview because usually the green card arrives within a week or two.
Thanks for the info.

I've been wondering what the stamp is for?

Although we have talked, Congratulations again!!!!
I'm still waiting on the pic.

Shalom, Fellow Believers,
Scripture for today:
“Brothers, I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14 NIV)
This has always been one of my favorites

Zainab, I definately think your soon to be husband could use your medical insurance, to do the left over vaccinations, once he gets here and you add him to your insurance. I would have done that but I did not add my husband to my insurance at my job, due to the very high costs! He has to get it as his job, which he is refusing to do, because he says he's not sick. He just doesn't get it, oh well, maybe he'll wish he had it when he does get sick.
I think thats a great idea for Bassi to try to use his medical insurance for all the exams. I hope he is able to make use of it before he leaves.

here zee http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/pdf/ti-03/appdx-a_693vacc.pdf
If that doesn't work, go to USCIS website, click on the immigration forms, look for I-693, open that up. After you click on that, in the top right will be this

Find a Civil Surgeons
go to the vacc. supp. that will bring you to I-693A form. In case you are going to use it.

Since it seems like the other day that my husband was just doing all of these things to get ready to come here(though, it's been a while) I thought I'd comment. Zee you did a good job telling about his experience. Yes men are wusses, my husband right along with the rest! He said they took a lot of blood too! Unfortunately Zainab your fiance will more then likely have to be tested again for HIV, you would think they could use what he has, as proof. Do you know where he has to get his test done for work? I was thinking if it was at one of the places USCIS designates for testing, the doctor might say ok not to test again. But what ever, they are going to want the money.
The Akai house is going to give you a copy of his vaccination record, a card actually. What you should try to get is a copy of is the I-693A form. You can find it on USCIS website (we had a problem finding it on there), maybe your fiances can bring this form to the appt and insist he needs it. My husband got no where with the Akai house on this issue. They said they would not give it and didn't. He will have to go back more then once because some of them are series. But when we started the AOS process we found out there is a doctor in Texas who will accept a faxed vaccination card and will transcribe it to the I-693A form for a small fee of 10$. So I would not too much worry about getting it if Akai house wont let you have it. Just ask on the AOS forum who the Doctor is, just about everyone there knows who he is. Actually I read something in the AOS forum the other day the second post down from Captain Ewok in the pinned section. You probably will find it helpful. Something about not needing I-693A anymore for AOS, I don't know about this, I would probably send it anyway. Because the AOS paper work clearly states that they want it. You'll see when you get to that road. Anyway
Also, when my husband got here we found he had to have another vaccination of the MMR(it's a series) and they either wanted the titer done of the chicken pox or have the vaccination. Even though he had chicken pox maybe 10years ago. So he had to pay at the health dept for the last MMR and have the titer done for chicken pox. I found it so stupid about the chicken pox vaccination, that it's not mandatory for USC to have the vaccination, but immigrants have to have it or prove they have had it before.
Zainab~ the value is the same
I just wanted to sound like all the commercials on the tv. That's all I heard on the radio and tv while I was in Ghana last. I was just getting used to the money and they had to go and change it up. It seems easier now and I like not having to carry all that cash.

I have been trying to get this book as well...its sold out everywhere I have tried. His website does not have a secure paying method to order it.
Omoba...did u order directly thru him? Always leary about ordering stuff from individuals that I don't personally know. Is he selling it on Ebay as well?...Havent checked there.
Same for me. Every site is out of stock. His site won't let me order, or at least yahoo won't even bring up his ordering page. Let us know Omoba, I'd love to read it.

I'll join the rest of you in the book club. Will order mine now.

Congratulations!!!!
There are a couple people in the October filers thread, that were approved 2 months after filing for AOS. Not sure if they got the GC yet, but take a look at their timeline. Go to October filers in this AOS section and page 56 has the most current timelines for all of us.

I feel for you all waiting so long. Do you mind me asking how in the world could it take so long to get approved for AOS or get your GC? I don't understand, I was really under the impression it could take 6 months. Definately not 800 days!! I am really shocked
GHANA VISA
in Africa: Sub-Saharan

I pray things will get better Efia. I wanted to suggest if you cannot pay for your ticket until March 1st, get all 4 pages ready to send in for your visa and the payment. The day you pay for the ticket, send in the paperwork for your visa and file to get it back the fast way. I know it's a little more money, but I feel thats your best option. I hope it all works out for you because the date is coming fast. All the best.
