  1. Also, when your daugther gets her medicals done, you can alway call the clinic..I think its Akai or whatever current number they gave you from the NVC and ask them to take care of your daughter during her medicals and to make sure that the embassy recieves her medicals in time for her interview..make sure when your daughter goes that you "extend your hand" so that will take extra good care of your daughter-that is what my friend did for her mom when she went for her medicals..She called them and spoke to someone at the clinic and when her mom went, she gave them extra money to ensure a smooth transition of the medical results to the embassy.

If she got the medicals done at the Akai House, they don't mail the results to the embassy any more. You have to pick them up yourself. The Akai House did not tell my fiance this when he got the medical done there. But I saw a post from someone else on here and told my fiance. He called the Akai House and they said yes he has to pick it up. Medi Labs forwarded his things to the embassy. I don't know if he got anything done at Holy Trinity, so I cant say anything about there. I wish you the best, koo and your daughter!

  2. Congratulations! My fiance has his appointment on Monday, July 23rd, and I keep reading how everyone had to pay a $100 fee. Is this something new? Or in addition to the $100 fee paid at the Standard Bank? I just want him to be totally prepared. He paid a $100 fee for the Visa appointment a while ago at a Standard bank and was told to take the receipt with him. My concern is will there be an additional $100 fee that he should be prepared to pay. Thank you for your response. Angela

my fiance paid for the visa with cedi's. 100 dollars worth. Yes, it was the visa fee. I didn't know they still let you pay for the visa ahead of time at the bank. I heard of it quite a while back, but no one mentions they did it that way. Was your fiance told to pay it at the bank? It sounds like the fee he paid, is the same as the one we are talking about paying the day of the interview. Hopefully there is no additional fee, as long as he has the receipt. maybe someone else is going to comment on this.

  3. I thought it was asking for savings account info only, so I did not fill that section, as I don't have a saving acct., only checking.

I wrote down what I thought was the amount for my assets. I would add what ever I could to make my income/assets higher, better to be safe then sorry. Also, I did have a co-sponsor and he does not have a saving account, he left that blank. What they really wanted was our income tax returns. well I hope this might help some.

  4. 1. no only you fill out the petition, as far as I know. I had a co-sponsor and it was me who filled the petition.

    2. co-sponsor fills out the same affidavit of support as you will fill out. I-134 one for you and one for co-sponsor.

    3. no co-sponsor does not have to attend interview and I've not heard of any attending before.

I sent in my affidavit of support with my petition and then filled a new one for my fiance's interview because the other one was not current and my co-sponsors affidaivit was submitted at the interview. Hope this helps.

  5. This may not be so important, but thought it may help someone. My fiance was given a lot of papers in package 3 and 4, a couple papers said that he needed passport pictures on the day of his interview. One paper said to bring 2 and another said to bring 3. The place he had them taken at, he asked them how many for a K-1 visa. The man said 2 and seemed to be quite confident. The day of the interview he gave the passport pics with the rest of the documents and was asked where is the 3rd photo? He explained to them about the paper work he was given, one said 2 and the other 3. So the man said ok. He didn't make him get another and didn't say any more about it. Though, I would recommend 3, to save any problems.

  6. To tell you the truth, I didn't think of calling the embassy. I was praying he will get it this Friday. I don't know if I mentioned this in the other post, about the other people in line the same day he went to get it, said they have been there 2 times and still nothing. Well, lets see what happens this Friday, I definately will let you know. I have doubts that the machine is slow, they do have a lot of lottery winners this time of year, maybe there is too many people to print them for and they are taking their time. I would say try not to worry, but then again you have plans right around the corner. I'm going to claim that he'll get it this friday, lets see.

  7. When I saw the new embassy in Accra (from the outside), it was a few BIG buildings. It made me think of a prison. I said to my fiance wow, where did they get the money to build this? He said, uh, all the money they take for the visa's. (He sounded almost like duh, don't you know?) He's right, they get rich off it. Makes me sick to think about it, but thanks to God he was approved.

  8. congratulations and wish you the best getting the medical results to the embassy fast, hopefully they can move the date up. Has the airline ticket already been purchased? We've not got one yet since Solo is still waiting for his visa, but the prices are so much this time of year!

  9. Thank you for sharing the details of your interview. My fiance has his interview on July 25th and I am so worried. But you have given me hope, especially on your fiance being able to pick up his visa on Friday. I pray that my fiance gets as nice of interviewer as you and your fiance. Again, congratulations!

wish you and your fiance lots of luck on July 25th. Everything should go well.

  10. Congratulations Lisa!!! I am here in Accra with my fiance and we are reading your experience. Sounds like everything went well.

Hey Zee, yes things went well, thank God. We just missed each other in Gh, maybe next time. I hope you are having lots of fun:)

  11. I wanted to let my friends and family of VJ know how things are going with our visa. On July 2, 2007 we had our interview at the Lagos Embassy and was approved for our visa. My fiance was given his approval letter and told to come back on July 5, 2007 to pick up the visa. When he got to the Embassy the visa was not ready for pick-up. He was then told to come back the next day and he did and still not ready for pick up. Today when I called the Embassy I talked to the lady who interviewed my fiance and she said that the computer that does the visas is down and the technician is out of town. She said for us to call back in a couple of days. I am posting this information so that other VJers going through the Lagos Embassy will know what is going on there. So we are still waiting to be reunited and hoping it will be soon.

Though my fiance is not from Nigeria, I wanted to let you know, you are not the only one having problems getting the visa. My fiance had his interview, this past Monday and was told to come today to get the visa. He went and was told they are having problems with their machine running too slow and they are not able to give it to him today. He was told to come back next friday. He said there were other people in line for their visa, who said it's their 2nd week coming for it and still nothing. The slip he was given says on the bottom, do not make travel arrangements, it is not a guarantee the visa will be issued on the date listed above. So, we'll just keep waiting.

  12. Thanks again to all who wished us lots of luck. Here is all the info that happened today at the embassy in Accra. We arrived a little before 7am and waited outside. After that did the usual of going in and waiting. They made me sit at the front til 8:30 and then let me go sit in the US waiting area. While I was waiting in the front building my fiance came back to me to collect more money to pay for the visa. The exchange rate was different where we exchanged the 100, we had got 92 cedi's back. so anyway I would make sure I had the 95 cedi's. it was sooooo cold waiting inside. but their new building is very nice inside. my fiance said, the bathrooms are so modern, I was looking where to flush the toilet and soon it flushed on it's own. lol. so they gave him a form to fill and pay for the visa. then sat again and the next guy(ghanaian) collected all the documents. He said the man was very nice. they did not want ds-230 part 2 or ds-157. the man said who asked you to fill out ds-230 part 2?? Solo, just told them he thought he had to. they did not want to see most of the documents I prepared. just the usual forms from him and tax returns from me and co-sponsor. pictures, emails & cards(they said we had too many of), phone records, I think that was it. after they collected those he waited again and was finally called at 11:30am for the interview. I saw him go to the window and I was getting nervous. He was standing at the window for just a second and Solo called me over there to talk to the man. here is the list of questions he asked us, most of them we towards me and it was not even my interview:

These were the questions they asked me:

    Is this your fiance?

Are you here with peace corps?

Are you willing to support him?

How do your parents feel about you getting married?

Do your parents like your fiance?

What I do for a living?

He asked me what my fiance is majoring in at the university?

    How old am I?

    How did you meet?

What is the name of the person who introduced us?

Where did I meet her(which was his mom who introduced us)?

He wanted to know exactly how she decided to put us on the phone together the first day we spoke.

Are you both christian? and for us both to state what denomination

What were the dates that I have been to Ghana?

Are you taking him away with you this time?

Why do I love my fiance?

What was the exact date you two got engaged?

    Here are Solo's questions:

    What are your fiance's interests?

Where is your fiance? He told them I'm right over there waiting for him to finish.

He wanted to know why I was in the building?

That's when Solo called me over there to talk to the man.

    Why does he love me?

How many sisters and brothers do I have? and what their names are. (which he only knows one name because I only talk about one and I have a complex family to remember all them, but the officer was ok with that).

    How old are you?

What does your fiance's parents do for a living?

Have you talked to her parents?

What have you and her mom talked about?

    What is her mom's name?

Did his mom pay me to file for him?

What year of schooling is he in?

Are you going to leave behind school?

Are you planning to work or go to school in the US? (He said he was going to do both)

What does your fiance do that makes you mad? Solo told him nothing, we don't argue. So then the man looked at him as if he need to have something to say, and he said Nothing!!?? Then Solo told him an example that I don't like paying for a taxi because they charge too much, that I would rather take a tro. The man was pleased with that response and commented that he knows tro-tro's.

When are you leaving to the US?

The consular officer said he doesn't see anything wrong. Then he was advising me that Ghanaian men are usually out to get a visa and not to get married. That's why he's asking me all these questions. I told him we have been together for just about 2 years and I don't think that is our case. He asked me if I lived in Florida and then told Solo that Florida's weather is just about like Accra weather. I asked him has he lived in Florida, he said his wife is from there. He gave him a blue slip to return on Friday the 13th, for the visa and said congratulations. The man was very friendly and Solo said I kept praying for that particular man to interview me, because he seemed nice. That's about it. Let me know if anyone wants to know anything else. I'll get off this computer now.
