  1. I believe, but maybe I'm wrong, the requirement is an official appraised value (from certified appraiser). However, as previously mentioned I believe you cannot use your primary residence as an asset.
  2. Get married, in the US or your country....then do the CR1....trust me...based on my experience, it's a much better option!
  3. Sorry for the late reply. Did you hear anything yet? However, this is a question that I cannot answer....every embassy/consulate is different, every case is different...some take longer, some shorter...
  4. Ok... yeah. I'm being nice...I'm just noting that, with democrats, everybody ELSE should pay their fair share....
  5. Who knows how they do their jobs...it varies greatly between countries.... I, personally, would assume an interview, especially if the country is Saudi Arabia.
  6. So, I know you're a super liberal...are your REALLY paying your fair share?
  7. Yes, that is true....how much of a percentage of your paycheck are you willing to pay? How does that make your tax due any less? Essentially, you're just paying more over time....I'm old enough to remember being single and getting a tax return in the thousands of $$$, now I'm married with a child and I owe money... On a side note, I'm also old enough to remember when a car loan for 5 years was the norm....now we're at 6, and the max for a mortgage was 30 years, now we're heading to 40.
  8. Well, that sucks....especially since you'll now just be paying more but over time. Just a prediction here, but I do believe in the next years those getting refunds today will no longer be getting refunds and will either break even or ➡️owe⬅️. The current government (and state governments who are spending wildly but will come to the federal government to make up the losses) just can't seem to stop spending money....particularly one party (but the other party isn't much better), but I digress. I'll check back next year....
  9. Are there any leftists that aren't? Yes, but this is (D)ifferent.
  10. Oh, well perfectly acceptable then...but do you happen to know if he meant all Republicans? Or just black Republicans?
  11. Fascinating, I'm sure that policy never gets abused up there in Canada. Regardless, I can't find one US state where it is legal.
  12. Just curious, is that even legal? Even the most generous states don't typically allow for a person to live in another country and collect unemployment benefits...
  13. Well, this year my spouse is not a NRA so we filed differently since last year. For tax year 2020 (filed in 2021) and 2021 (filed in 2022) we used Taxslayer with no problem for MFS as NRA with no SSN or ITIN; so unless they've made changes to the software that no longer allows for that, or the IRS changed rules since then, it should work. On a side note, I believe it allows you to open a free account and fill out the forms for free and even possibly file for free (depending on various factors) so I would recommend trying it and see.
  14. I used Taxslayer in the past, with NRA spouse and submitted online with no issues.
  15. That is fantastically fast....my daughter just renewed her passport here in the US and I think it took a few more days than that....so good luck!
  16. Well, I'm guessing in a lot of cases (not particularly this one), it's to tell the rest of the family, in person, to start packing because they're submitting the I-130s....😄
  17. This entire idea is pretty risky. Now, having done both (in my case renewals and first-time passports, abroad as well as within the US), it has been much quicker to do it from within the US.
  18. ...an international man of mystery it would seem...but consulate shopping seems the best guess.
  19. We had this exact same situation happen in our case but we had way more income and way more very liquid, countable US based assets....we had also been married for many years (I was living in Peru with my wife for a long time) but we received the 221g requiring a joint sponsor anyway following the 2 minute interview (CO was handing them out like candy apparently). Anyway, I had one very reluctant sibling; fortunately she came through and agreed in the end (ironically, I was better off financially than the joint sponsor but it is what it is). Had we not had her though, I would still be living in Peru with my wife, which presents you with one other option: you can think about moving to your spouse's country if there are no other available options....
