She is still not refusing to comply with the dress code, she merely wishes to cover her hair with a scarf because she believes that is required of her by her religious faith. If Disney has no material reason not to grant compliance with that belief they are in trouble - they have no right to deny her wish to adhere to her religious principals unless such adherence materially affects her performance or places others in jeopardy that's the principal of granting freedom of religious practice in the USA. Merely saying that her desire to wear a headscarf ruins the overall effect of wearing costumes is not much of an argument judicially.

because the person she loves and is married to is in "ramadan mode", and she wants to join him in that. obviously she wanted to participate in one way or another-why on earth would she have even attempted fasting at this specific time of year in the first place if she didn't feel like participating in her own way? it's really not a stretch to therefore conclude that she's wanting to participate in this specific event regardless of her own beliefs. one of the ways to participate is through charity, because that's what people who can't fast do. this.is.not.a.difficult.concept.
what did you think she was talking about in the original post? that she randomly decided to do some crash diet that entails fasting during daylight hours, and it just coincidentally happened to be the same time as ramadan? obviously her attempt to do so was centered around ramadan, and it's not yours or anyone else's business why she does it.

you obviously don't know tamara. anyone with long time history here knows what she's all about, and it is indeed very ugly. meghan may be a new poster, but she caught right on to what tamara's all about straight away.
having a christian family, that doesn't behave like ignorant, hick, bigots, i'm really offended to hear this ####### touted as a "christian family's point of view". no christian in my family would dream of behaving that way, nor would they ever believe something like "coming from a christian family its unacceptable to be married to a muslim" or "Its no surprise that your mom would react this way if she thinks you have converted or thinking to convert."
they would be so offended to hear that that kind of behavior is to be expected because they're christian.

I am pretty sure most of you know that I am probably the furthest thing from a religious or spiritual person, yet I have fasted in solidarity with my husband. So what if someone isn't muslim when fasting? I recognize that it is a special time culturally for my husband, and I join him in that. He also goes bananas for xmas and isn't christian.

what a vapid article. it's in no way "eerily reminiscent" of the 2008 horror where babies actually died, and hundreds of thousands were injured. so far this has affected three girls, not 300, 000, and the story does not provide a single shred of evidence linking the powdered milk to their abnormal hormones. have any other parents/pediatricians come forward? one would think that if there were more children affected, they would at least be discussed here.
this could potentially be a huge issue, but one would never know it from this crappy journalism.

yes, black people should have just forgave and accepted their separate lunch counters and drinking fountains. there's other places to eat and drink. jews should have just accepted and forgave wasps who didn't want to have to golf behind them at their country clubs. lots of other green places to putt exist. gay people should just get over it if a landlord doesn't want rent them an apartment cause they're the same gender..there's lots of other apartments out there. the whole 14th amendment is just ridiculous because all those pesky, whiny minorities in the united states couldn't "rise above the pettiness and narrow-mindedness and lose themselves in the love for _______ ... somewhere else". this country has been there before already. it wasn't better for it. and going somewhere else didn't change it, fighting for their rights no matter how uncomfortable or pissed off it made some people did.

in that case, why stop there then? why not just flush the whole damn 4th amendment down the toilet while yr at it? if we quit worrying about all that "right to a speedy trial" ####### and just let people rot in jail cells while the state takes their own sweet time to bring up charges, the state would probably have even better conviction rates too. is that discomfort worth it then? exactly where do you draw the line? when did you start hating the constitution and loving big government's boots on people's necks?
trying to draw accurate conclusions about immigration status based on skin color, ethnicity, physical appearance is a losing game. i bought a new mac lipstick the other day from a woman at the store with a british accent. should i have questioned her immigration status because her accent is totally foreign and not all that common in the pacific northwest? maybe have called the police so they could check her papers because she wrote the date as 27/7/10 instead of 7/27/10 the way real americans do? i bet she says zed instead of zee too...definitely suspicious...

agreed. i wonder if my cousin, who is half klamath/modoc but gets mistaken for being hispanic all the time and lives in phoenix, is more likely to be harassed by police there than hugh laurie with his spot on american accent but foreign birthplace would be... but according to some of these idiots, she should just have to put up with it anyway. it's her own damn fault for looking like one of them illegals in the first place.

as if it's ever been equal. your comments are completely disingenuous.
historically black colleges had to remain almost exclusively black because when there were integrated schools, laws were passed to make it illegal to teach black and white students in the same place. this segregation was reinforced by the supreme court until brown v. board of education, which didn't happen until 1954(!).

i don't think anyone here thinks what his family did is ok, or should be without consequences. but the circumstances in this particular case merit looking at other possibilities besides deportation. a probationary arrangement may be more appropriate in light of these particular circumstances.

i've read anywhere from 1.4-2.2 million cambodians died because of khmer rouge. 11 million congolese died during belgium's colonial reign of terror there. 5 million congolese people died in the late 90s-early 00s. so who's been busier?

50 years ago, there would have been plenty of people making that same excuse for african americans trying to eat lunch from the same lunch counters as white people, or share the same drinking fountains and bathrooms. it's divisive for wrong, misguided reasons, and acquiescing to them would give them credibility. they deserve no credibility, only outright rejection.
another part of this problem is that you want to/think you can saddle american muslims with issues happening tens of thousands of miles away from here.

i like how soffiya already answered you, what she said makes sense, but i wanted to also add that what is so frustrating about your posts on this topic is the dictatorial stance you take. you don't get to decide for anyone and everyone just what their clothes mean to them. only the individual has the right to do that. women have every right to use clothes or the very lack of them in any manner they choose, not what you choose. what you have deemed is a right reason for wearing clothes is not binding on anyone. there are as many acceptable reasons for why women wear clothes as there are for why not. a mandinka woman in west africa may not cover her breasts because for her it's socially and culturally the norm not to. in a las vegas strip club, there are women who don't cover their breasts either, for the specific reason of making money off of this display of their bodies. both are equally valid reasons to not wear clothes, regardless of how anyone may feel about their motivations for doing so.
