The person you are referring to is @Emilini . Maybe if she sees this, she will update us on what is going on with her rescheduling! It will be a year in September for me as well. I also suspect a generic response but emailing them wouldnt hurt! I have no idea what their process is for rescheduling people but I have a feeling that we are not their priority.

Hi, all.  I stopped checking visa journey a while back because it was just depressing me.  I did not get another visa interview scheduled for me and everytime I check to reschedule it says that none are available.  Because of this, we have applied for AOS.  I will keep my file active at Montreal if that's possible, in case something eventually comes up before my AOS gets processed.

Sounds like you think the US should consider your green card process a higher priority than you yourself do. No offense but given what's happened the last year, what may yet come and how long the process is even without delays, getting the next available appointment regardless the conflict would seem a better plan...

Some offense taken, but only because you caught me in an overly fraught moment.  Justintime2, Montreal is figuring this out and so are we - in a way that is hopefully the least painful and traumatizing for 2 preschoolers and a church that expects me to do what I've been called to do. Judge me as you like, I'm trying to make lemons into chocolate cake...and I think it's going to be palatable for everyone

Hey @Emilini, you came to mind the other day as I remember you were the only one  on here in the situation where you questioned rescheduling your interview
Were you able to do so and if so could you share your experience

Hi, All.  I was able to reschedule - but because of Covid, it's a lot more complicated than the link that is provided in the FAQ's.  When I realized I wasn't able to make my March 1st appointment (after much anxiety and sleepless nights), I emailed Montreal (the email they recommend to use) and gave them my information - my passport #, my Case # and forwarded my interview email from the NVC.  I told them my reasons (too short notice, working in states, young children traumatized by last 8 mo separation from father, etc).  They cancelled my interview.   I went to sign in at the interview scheduling website - and they said I needed to schedule an appointment - and that there were none available at the time.  Weird, I was expecting to see a calendar, but whatever.  I kept checking.  At the end of February I received another date  - April 9.  Well, that's nice and all, but I'm here in the states under an r-class work visa (I'm a pastor) and April 9 is right after Easter...and I can't leave here during the most holy celebration/feast to quarantine and have all my appointments.  So, I emailed the consulate again and this time I was first given the following email: "The U.S. Consulate General in Montreal does not handle re-scheduling interviews. Any questions about scheduling/re-scheduling the appointment or any issues with the website of our appointment services contractor should be reported directly to the Official U.S. Department of State Visa Appointment Service using the contact details here https://ais.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/iv/information/contact_us"  On the scheduling website it says their call centre can reschedule appointments.  So, I called them, however, the person I talked to at the call-centre said that, no, the Montreal consulate will reschedule the appointment only after I miss the April 9 appointment.  Ok, that's not what happened last time - but ok.

Yesterday I received another email from Montreal saying: Good morning, Thank you for the notification. Our Visa unit will contact you with appointment availability in late April and May 2021.

So, they have no idea what they're doing and they're just stringing me along - each email is from a different operator.  I'm just waiting to see what will happen next.

Right now, my husband and I are also in talks with an immigration lawyer who thinks we have a good case for Adjustment of Status.  I'm a little nervous about that - because of stories I've heard about denials of greencards and I have been denied entry at the border 2ce in the last 15 years - (the last time was almost 2 years ago).

So, we'll wait and see what happens re my rescheduled rescheduled appointment.  I wish I could choose the date, but it doesn't look like they're doing that anymore/right now.   I also hope that I will receive the vaccination soon - so that may help if vaccine passports will get me into Canada without all the silly border shenanigans.

  4. Hey all, a while ago, I sent an email to Montreal asking them to clarify the Criminal Record Check debate.  This is my email to them and their response:

Greetings.    I am anticipating my interview will happen in March (I was documentarily qualified on June 3rd 2020)

There is a bit of confusion when it comes to the new criminal record check requirement titled "Criminal record check for personal use".  I had my criminal record check done in May 2020 and it was the "privacy record check" which was the check required by the NVC and was approved.
Since my privacy record check is not yet expired, am I still required to get a new criminal record check with the new name or will my current one suffice?
Please let me know so that I can inform my visajourney peers

    This is their Response
    Good morning,
Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:
    • You are more than 16 years old;
    • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
    • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.
The Certified Criminal Record Check requested under the Privacy Act is fingerprint-based is required by U.S. Consular posts in Canada. For more information on how to request this document, visit rcmp-grc.gc.ca. 5. So, we've decided to try to reschedule my appointment and if that fails, apply for AOS.  My interview was scheduled for March 1st.  Even if we were in Canada (I'm here on an R-class i-129) it would still be incredibly difficult to get everything done in a 3.25 weeks... childcare, travel, drs apts, etc during a pandemic... not to mention the cost.  Please note that on my piece of the database and I will update my timeline too.

  6. Hey all, me again.  My husband just pointed this out to me  under Who Must Attend the Interview on the NVC website:  "You, your spouse, and any qualified unmarried children immigrating with you, must participate in the interview. All traveling applicants required to participate will be named on the interview Appointment Letter you receive from the National Visa Center (NVC)."

My kids (5 and 3) were named on my nvc document received today.  The issue is that they are American Citizens and will not be immigrating with me because they're already legit here.  Do I need to bring them too?  I can just imagine waiting and answering questions with a 5 and 3 year old running (yes they're noisy joyful runners) around.  Someone, please help me.

I can't speak to the medical after, but I was in Calgary.  We thought about Dr. Cheema, but flying to Van, then back, then to Montreal seemed like a lot of headache and a lot of money.  I called Medisys in Montreal and did everything there instead.  You'll have to see if there is availability in flights for you to go back and forth if you do choose Dr. Cheema.

When you went through Medisys, did you do that before or after your interview?  If before, how long before and did they have it completed before your interview?

If you don't have your updated police certificate, they'll put you into AP until they receive it.  Depending on where you get it, it could be a couple of days.  I believe someone managed to get theirs expedited at the Commissionair's.

by your updated police certificate, do you mean getting a new one with the new name even when the old one is not yet expired?  I thought that was not necessary.

  9. Congrats to all the people that are getting the visas.  It is so good to see that Montreal is really moving along.  It's too bad things are still nutty because of Covid.

Please excuse me for my persistent questions here.  I'm only mildly freaking out - but I think that might be somewhat normal for those of us who are so close - yet so far from IR/CR status.

Please answer these few more questions, if you are able.

    1.  Has anyone ever been denied entry at the border - if so, what will be/were the consequences at interview?  (I've been denied 2x over the past 15 years for not having the correct travel document)

    2.  Is my police certificate from June 2020 still valid in light of the new requirements or do I need to get a new one, even though this one is not expired?

    3.  What are the experiences with AP?

    4.  Has anyone considered or researched just doing AOS?

Thanks, all.  I'm sorry for asking so many questions.

  10. Hey all.  Does any one know when they send out the emails for the next month's appointments?  I dq'd on June 3, and according to the spreadsheet I'll be one of the next interviewees.  My concern is that I am presently in the states working with a non-immigrant work visa and will need to quarantine, get my drs appointment and wait for that and I don't think that I can get that done in less than 3 weeks.

So, two questions: when do the appointments get scheduled and is there anyway to pre-schedule the dates beforehand so I can get one later in March?

  11. Hey all, I've noticed several people have posted about how, during their interview, they were asked whether they've ever been denied entry at the border.  This makes me nervous because I have been denied 2x - both because I didn't have the right paperwork (1. no student visa for a weekend class in the States and 2. no i797 stating the beginning of the cr-1/ir-1 process when coming to visit my husband).  Both times I returned later with the appropriate documentation and was let in.  I have always been truthful when asked about these 2 denials and never had an issue.

I guess my question is whether anyone else has ever in the past been denied entry and whether this was an issue in getting approved for permanent residence.

  12. Do we get to schedule the visa appointment or do they give you a date?  I haven't received an interview email/letter today but I should be soon because I DQ'd on June 3rd.  My issue is that we are presently in the usa and I will need to quarantine and get the drs appointment and all that before the interview.

Also, I am presently working with a R1 work visa (i129).  Do I need to cancel this before I get my ir/cr-1?  Anyone have any experience with this?

  13. I have several questions that have not been answered by NVC (not an emergency so can't email them) nor by the Montreal Consulate.  Maybe someone here could help me out.

I was documentarily approved for my visa by the NVC in early June.  The next step is that the NVC is working with the consulates to schedule an appointment.  Here are my questions.

    1.  What is required for the Montreal Consulate to open?  I know other US consulates are open (Jamaica, Paris...) to interview cr1/ir1 visa holders, why isn't ours yet.

    2.  Is the Montreal Consulate even working with NVC on scheduling or is there a huge backlog of scheduling that needs to happen when the consulate actually opens?

    3.  Will I be processed before Christmas?  Oh dear Lord, I'm so tired of single-parenting 2 preschoolers in a small apartment in Winnipeg during a pandemic.

Ok, maybe this is more of a rant, but I'm so ready for this all to get going again.
