  1. Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to Google this info but haven’t had any luck. I got married in 2019 in Ontario and did the regular application process to receive to copies of the certificate. Now that my interview is coming up I’m gathering all my originals and I’m confused on whether or not I have the proper copy.

I have a long paper that says certified A true photostatic print of a record. It’s stamped with a raised seal. Says marriage license on the copied form but has

part 1: to be completed by the office issuing license

    part 2: marriage affidavit

    part 3: statement or marriage

is this the correct marriage certificate? Hopefully someone can help! I can’t find a picture of what they look like online

I just can into the US(Philadelphia) yesterday from Montreal. CBP asked general questions-how long you stay, who are you staying with, why don’t you apply spousal visa-told him that currently waiting to get an interview, that’s all.

the airport was pretty empty but my plane was kind of full. I think it’s because Sunday?

make sure bring some snacks as only one store is opened and small cold sandwich was like $15 and water was $5.

about 50% passengers from my flight were there 3-4 hours prior to boarding. I think it’s because AA emailed people that the plane is full and they offer people money anyone willing to re scheduled their flight to the other day.

Oh and make sure you bring your own mask.

nothing to worry about just be honest tell them you are going to visit your husband/wife.

    good luck!

Awesome thank you! :) I’m bringing my cat and apparently there’s 3 other cats on my flight lol

but my anxiety is eased with comments like this so I appreciate it!
I’ll update when I travel! Going to Montreal as well

Leaving from Montreal there was like no one in line. And there were no shops open, and more than half the gates were closed. It was really, really empty, and only 4 flights were on the board scheduled to leave.

As for customs, I was asked normal things, but since I'm staying in the US for like 3 months they asked more to prove I was coming back -- I can work remotely, and had a letter of employment just in case (they never asked for it), other than that though it was just regular questions.

The flight had everyone in their one seat (unless you were together with someone). Oh, you have to wear a mask to be let on, so make sure to bring one.

I kinda was ready to be told no though, cause it's really up to the customs guys to let you through. I was happy they let me though!

Edit: oh, I had a layover in a US state. COMPLETELY opposite, it was like a damn normal full airport, with things open, and a ton of people.

I’m nervous already flying and being turned away but I’ve never had an issue so i think I’ll try end of June! Thanks so much for telling me how it went. I can go to either Pearson or Montreal and my final destination is in nyc. Not the smartest place to go but I’ve been away from my husband for too long.
i wish I would’ve known this sooner! We didn’t get to be together for our anniversary because I thought I wasn’t allowed. Even did the research and didn’t know this was possible

I’ll let you know! I’m a little nervous just because I’m on EI so it’s hard to prove that I intend to come back. Hoping it’s all fine though cause I have nexus! Will update next week. 😊

I’m in the same boat but I’ll have a return ticket so I’m not too worried. Never had a problem

I flew to the US may 20th with American Airlines, the land border, is closed, not air.

I was only asked normal questions.

What was your airport experience like? Are the lines extra long

The air border is open into the US for Canadian citizens. I’m flying next Thursday through Toronto.

Awesome wow I wish I knew this before. I’ll be going end of the month now through Pearson! :) tell me how the airport experience is like. I’m wondering if I should be extra early

    Hi!

I think if your spouse is USC you may be allowed to cross the border (by air). I just came into the US last week to see my spouse. I flew from Toronto Pearson and they asked me the usual questions - where am I staying? Reason for my visit?, what I do in Canada? How long I plan to stay etc. Interestingly, for the first time, I was asked to show my return ticket which I also had and I was waved to go!

I just decided to try after reading about experiences on online. Also, the US Federal Register indicates that Air travel is not impacted by the border closure.

    I hope this helps!

    Oh wow really?
what airline did you fly with

  7. Hello everyone, hope you are all safe.

as you may know the Canadian and USA border is closed till June 21st (May have already been extended till July) but Trudeau was discussing allowing family members to travel.

he has only talked about Americans travelling into Canada, but what about the other way around. If I want to see my spouse it’s only possible for my to go to the USA rather than him come to Canada because of his work.
does anyone know if they will be allowing Canadian family into American or is it just Americans coming to Canada?

    thank you!

No worries, I appreciate all of this!

I spent almost 2 weeks with my fiance in February, and we are anticipating a reunion in July - which is when we will wed. I also anticipate to visit every two months if my work permits (i'm a nurse so it is hard to get time off). But that is awesome. We were hoping this would all take a year a max but maybe not haha.

what is left for you two? just the interview?

    Thanks,

    Mel

If you’re a nurse I think you can go work in the states if you really wanted to rush it. I think they are expediting health care workers to help them with covid.

when we first started I said max 9 months lol this July we’ll hit a year and then I’m thinking with all of the backed up interviews at the Montreal embassy, I’ll be waiting till next year for one :(

we were sent to the NVC end of January 2020, they just looked at our account and told us to fix some stuff may 13th I think. It’s taken a couple weeks to get stuff in the mail (learn from my mistake, get the long new version of your birth certificate, I’m in Ontario and that’s what they required, I originally sent my small original copy, they did not accept.) I also got the wrong background check and they want one that’s under the privacy act and fingerprints. I made this mistake and had to just get it now. Once they review the updated documents I sent, they’ll send to the embassy and then we wait for interview!

if you have specific questions with Canada to usa I may be able to help, just shoot me a message :)

Hello everyone. I hope you are all doing well and staying safe. I haven't been on here in a while, I do apologize for my lack of activity.

I have some questions as my fiance and I are planning to wed next month and submit the I-130 application.

    1) Is it okay if we both keep our own last names? She is going to eventually take my last name when we have a bigger wedding with family once I (Canadian) move to the US. I am worried that if she keeps her last name during the time of application, that they may look at it as not bona fide.

    2) We are likely to file online. In terms of file-formatting, can we compile all the required documents (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate, passport photos, and evidences) all in ONE document (pdf)? or do they need to be in their own separate pdf files?

2a) Also, these documents (Especially the certificates and/or passports) they can simply be scanned electronically onto a computer correct? I don't need to submit them physically in the mail or anything?

    3) Does anyone have a rough idea how long it would take for the whole CR1 Visa process for immigrant spouse (US spouse petitioning for Canadian spouse) during this time?

    4) Should these evidences suffice?

We have many photos together from when I visited in February, plus more that we will take when I return next month. I have photos/proof of letters, gifts, and money i've sent to her. I also added her as an authorized user to my US credit card which she has a copy of (i am trying to get a document showing both our names). I will also include my plane tickets for when I travelled there. We also skype every single day, and keep skype on as we sleep (usually they are 10-18 hour skype calls daily) - so I was thinking of including a log showing a sample of this.

4 a) is there a limit on how many evidences or pages of evidences that we can include?

Thank you all for your help.

    Best regards,

    Mel

Hello! I’m also Canadian and my husband is the USC.
I kept my last name when we got married because we wanted to file our paper work ASAP and not wait for all of my information to be changed. I do plan on changing it later but I don’t think that’s anything you need to worry about.

we got married may 2019, filed July 25th 2019 and it’s looking like with everything closed and not sure about reopening, the entire process may take close to a year and a half to two years total. I’ve visited many many times during the process, so although it takes awhile you’re still allowed to visit (obviously once the border is open)

the only requirement is that you and your spouse have met in person in the last two years at least once for your application. The other proof you have is more for the interview later on.

sorry I couldn’t answer all the questions! We had a lawyer submit our papers so I’m not sure exactly how.

Is it possible that they rejected it because I attached a translation? The birth certificate was in Spanish. I don't know if there is a long version for Nicaragua.

I found this info on the website “Available. Birth certificates must be obtained from the Central Registry in Managua. In cases where a birth was never registered, a Civil Judge may, after a lawyer has executed the proper documents and testimony taken from witnesses, issue a birth certificate which is inscribed in the Civil Registry. If an applicant was registered more than one year after the date of birth, an "onlyness" certificate of birth (certificado unico o constancia unica de nacimiento) will be required. If there has been a rectification or recognition registered, the applicant will also need to provide a literal birth certificate, which lists all of the changes made to the registration of birth. In cases in which the relationship or identity of the applicant is in doubt, a baptism certificate may be requested as secondary evidence. Such a certificate must prove that the record of birth was entered in the record book for the year in which the baptism took place; the document should be authenticated by the Chancery of the Catholic Church in Managua, Nicaragua. A Supletoria of baptism is not acceptable.”

if you followed what was said above. I’m not sure what the problem would be until you can see the message. Leave the message open for a few minutes. Also try to look at them at an super quiet time like between 12am-3am and see if that helps

I usually reload and try again for the millionth time and get lucky. Pretty sad.

I’ve had issues with this too. The only way we could see the message was at 1am when we checked. That’s been the only time. If it says “birth certificate” or any specific item in the title, they just say to go to the nvc website to see what you require for their standards.

  12. 2 hours ago, NikLR said:

RCMP or commissionaires will be able to do it.  It takes a little bit to get back.  Read the instructions on the NVC website and the threads on this in the Canada forum.  Theres a specific privacy act you need to request but regardless they need your fingerprints.

As i mentioned for those born in Ontario, you need a copy of the registration of live birth.

Looks like fingerprints can’t be done currently cos of the virus until further notice so I’ll have to wait for that.
The hospital I was born at doesn’t exist anymore and didn’t give us a live birth so I just ordered a birth registration and updated long birth certificate.

thanks for your help! You know if they push back your case when you need to reupload documents?

  13. 2 hours ago, NikLR said:

You need the long form of the birth certificate, short form wont work. If you were born in Ontario you need the copy of live birth with all the handwritten info.

You have the privacy act police certificate that's less than 1 year old?

I’m from ontario. Where do I find the privacy act police certificate? I got my police check from service Canada and apparently it’s not the correct one.

  14. Hello,

I've seen a post about people who have had similar situations and what they tried to load the messages with but nothing is working.

Also, I'm from Ontario Canada and I got what I thought was the correct police report but it shows on my account that it is invalid. As well as birth certificate. I have the old small paper version and not the updated version in Canada. Anyone else have similar problems and can lend some advice?

    thank yoU!
